Hello 🙂 As we already discussed a good way to store your huge amount of data and scale easily is cloud services like Amazon S3, Wasabi, Backblaze, Microsoft Azure e.t.c Usually we select a cloud provider and then we may decide to use another one or maybe use a second cloud service as backup.... But how we can move our data from one cloud to another and get some easy management ? A great tool to use is Acembly ! For all of your file requirements, wherever they live. Acembly delivers simplified but powerful file, video and cost management features across public cloud storages for individuals or teams of any size. Ma…

Fellow server admins, have you heard of or tried Netdata? I was looking for a worthwhile free, open source alternative to the horrendously expensive but modern style New Relic, but something that had a modern and useful UI that didn't look like it came from 1995 (munin anyone?) https://my-netdata.io/ Nice real world demos here, try the London one: https://my-netdata.io/#demosites The default is a dark theme but you can switch to a white theme too. You can monitor your server hardware and also it has plug-ins (currently manually added at the SSH command line) for adding PHP-FPM, MariaDB, Mysql, Redis, Nginx, Apache and app monitoring etc: …

Hey there all, I've been planning a server setup for a brand new community, but I'm not entirely hundred percent sure if I'm going overkill to the point it actually is a detriment to my forum. Starting off the installation in reference to these threads - In addition to this fresh server install, I will be using MySQL for data storage and Redis for caching. Does it make sense to also use OPCache too as well? + ElasticSearch 6.8 coupled with Kibana and associated monitoring tools (Elastic Stack Beats and Logstash components). + Cloudflare CDN, Memcached + Railgun, Argo Tunneling. + Google Drive backups. Would you guys argue there are certain …

Hello After getting an amazing feedback for my recommendation about Cloudflare and Wasabi i decide to share another recommendation that i share with my private clients so everyone can benefit 🙂 Data data data everywhere .... What's wrong with that? Nothing we all love data 🙂 But data increasing a LOT per day and more storage solutions needed .... I would like to present you Backblaze a competitor of Wasabi (now you know that i am not related with any company that i do a recommendation) and the only reason that i recommend Wasabi as S3 alternative is that they have free download compared to Backblaze $0.01 download per GB. But i would like to recommend…

Hello Another day another tip 🙂 Strip your Nginx and Php binaries and get around 50% smaller file size.... Linux man strip info: https://linux.die.net/man/1/strip In Unix and Unix-like operating systems, the strip program removes inessential information from executable binary programs and object files, thus potentially resulting in better performance and sometimes significantly less disk space usage ('inessential information' means information that is not required for correct functioning of the binary in normal execution). This information may consist of debugging and symbol information; however the standard leaves the scope of changes up to …

My ipbcore_output_cache table keeps growing and growing. It's currently at 11GB and recently crashed my database when I ran out of disk space. I've searched and oddly, "ipbcore_output_cache" produces 0 results in Google. I would like to purge that table so I can export the data and do a clean install on a test environment. Any ideas?

Hello What if you could get a 0% to 14% (about) boost in performance in your large PHP-based website without changing a line of source code? There is a a technique called Profile-Guided Optimization or PGO that can offer you a performance boost from 0% (on some cases can't get any extra performance but it will not cause any issues) up to 14%. The basic idea is as follows: When any program is compiled, the compiler uses some heuristics to determine the most likely path your program will take through the code, and optimizes the code using those assumptions. PGO lets you train the compiler to produce a more optimized result. It does this by first compilin…

Hello ! 🙂 I'm going to change server and I tested a transfer. It ran without error messages so I believed it was ok. But when I visited the web site, I noticed that : - gallery images didn't appear, nor in the widget, nor in the gallery itself : - the box to post answers only had a text zone (no more buttons, etc.) : Is this a server configuration problem in your opinion ? Something missing ? Thank you. 🙂

Hello According to Netcraft web server survey for April 2019 for first time since 1996, Nginx has surpassed Apache as the most used web server for web sites ! Most websites now use nginx! Despite the overall loss of sites this month, nginx gained 22.3 million websites and 2.03 million additional active sites. nginx also gained the largest number of web-facing computers, increasing its total by 63,000 to 2.57 million (+2.52%). nginx's market share of web-facing computers is now nearly 30%, and this is continuing to grow steadily closer to Apache's leading share of 37.3%. Microsoft and Apache lost shares in every headline metric this month, with both vendor…

Hello, We are currently running PHP 7.3.5 with nginx 1.16.0. IPS 4.4.3. PHP is running as php-fpm. Navigating our website, we get random 502 errors. As far as I can tell, this is a timeout error between nginx and php-fpm, but I have no clue on how to debug and fix this. nginx status page: pool: www process manager: dynamic start time: 08/May/2019:23:54:43 -0300 start since: 554034 accepted conn: 16438369 listen queue: 15 max listen queue: 133 listen queue len: 511 idle processes: 0 active processes: 29 total processes: 29 max active processes: 99 max children reached: 0 s…

I want to know if its possible to resolve an IPB application to a subdomain rather than as a directory of the parent? For example: currently i have the community product setup at forum.domain.com and would like the pages application to exist at content.domain.com Could this work without redirecting? I manage my own aws server and would imagine i could do it with a virtualhost configuration, but before I go and muddle something up, wanted to check if anyone has done this with success before?

Still trying to get 4.4 to install. On test instillation this time instead of live site. YAAAY However, during the upgrade from 4.3.6 I noticed one of the queries times out. I have a lot of records to add this key to apparently. Then if I try to run it again it doesn't work because the partially upgraded DB already has the key. What should I do? Now it says this

Hello everyone, I have a question to ask the public ... I have many errors in the LOG that try to access and execute actions on this route, I suspect that it is not normal. This route is part of the IPS structure. /home/laestoka/public_html/foro/public/min/ [Tue Apr 30 13:01:08.730157 2019] [core:crit] [pid 46348] (13)Permission denied: [client 66.249.65.85:61815] AH00529: /home/laestoka/public_html/foro/public/min/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable and that '/home/laestoka/public_html/foro/public/min/' is executable, referer: http://laestokada.cl/foro/index.php/forum/218-barrio-rojo-decimocuarta/page-2[Tue A…

After upgrading to IPB 4.4 I had realised extreme drop in google positions. Some of those are connected with bad internal linkig - we fixed most of it by our own. The next problem is JS handling in new 4.x familiy of IPB. Here are some examples according to 3 sites that I tested, on different hostings and different scale - from 200users to 200k users - JS for google page speed is same. Main forum page: 1800 dom elements - 2.5s for root_library.js JS handling - google page speed for mobile - 52-60 Forum category page: 1900 dom elements - 1.9 for root_library.js JS handling - google page speed for mobile 45-50 Topic page: 3000 dom elements!!! - 8s fo…
