We recently started noting that our Car Community is getting slower and slowr in posting new topics and post. Load time is fine, reading the posts and topic is also fine even from the oldest lot. It has reached to about 5-6 seconds wait for every post. Editing same post is instant. Any help...?

Hello, I run two forums on separate cPanel accounts with NameCheap that use IP.Board (version 3.4 now, but will be upgraded to 4.0 soon). The cPanel has an option for backing up using CodeGuard, but it costs $5/mo/site, and there's not really any money flowing around for us to afford that. I was wondering about writing a custom script to automatically back up the website files and databases to remote servers (FTPS or SSH preferred). Is there a free service that's like CodeGuard or should I just try to figure out a PHP/BASH script to accomplish the same thing? Thanks!

Hi, one of my clients upgrade to IPS4 without converting to utf8mb4 and i need to know how i can change charset to utf8mb4, is there a tool like convertutf8? or is it safe to upgrade to utf8mb4 manually (from cli or phpmyadmin)? i can see there's an option in conf_global.php named sql_utf8mb4 in a fresh install of IPS4 but i can't see this on a upgraded conf_global.php, should i add this option to conf_global and set it as TRUE? should i change sql_charset in conf_global to utf8mb4 as i can't see this option in a fresh install of IPS4 thanks in advanced

If one has a .com domain > Google webmater allows you have settings 1 For a specific country or mark it unlisted - if it is for every one.... However If I have a .in domain country specific domain Google is not showing option to do unlisted and says it is for your country India only... For the people who use .htaccess to block some bad bots, i suggest using this: https://github.com/nerdkey/nerdtools_badbot_iptables Using cron and blocking them faster than through .htaccess. You can add also the big search engine spiders manually to IPTables if you feel they are draining you forum dry.

I just downloaded AVG PC tune up and used its 1 free fix thing, and i restarted my pc however after restarting, I went to my forum and I get this error message whenever I try to make a topic "a configuration or server error has occurred" Error code: EX2048 both admin and member gets the error, guest are able to make topic just fine Update: I think it was the 2 plugins I installed prior to getting this error (Auto Link Titles, and Links Preview) for IPB 4 so I removed those 2 plguins and im able to make topics again

Does anyone know if having say 100 secondary groups will cause IPS to crap out. My forum is not going to be big in member numbers and not a ton of posts but hoping to assign them each their own secondary group that will give each member access to a private area all there own. Since I am not sure how IPS handles the calls to the Db, what would the overhead be. Any idea on the hit of server resources?

Hi guys, I don't know if you noticed, but this month Google added a new tool at Google Webmaster Tools called "Blocked Resources" (under "Google Index"). According to Google, these blocked resources are required for it to correctly render and display our website. The attached screenshot is what I get. These items are blocked by IPB's Robots.txt. Should I allow Google to crawl the "cache" directory? Gabriel.

I am in the process of starting up a community and so far, it has been a very long road with 2 steps forward, 1 back type scenario, BUT, progress is being made none the less. I plan to be producing original video content for the community and also allow users to upload content HOWEVER, I have no desire to utilise Youtube for hosting. I want to create a self sustaining eco-system in that regard if that makes sense? Anyone remember web 1.0 when websites were ALL like this, I liked it, it added character I think. Here is a tip... https://imageoptim.com A free tool that will help optimize the default images in the distribution of v4 When I ran it on a fresh RC5 folder it reported: 48.7kb out of 251.4kb 29.1% per file on average (up to 84.4%) kudos to the team for how original files were pretty optimized already. every byte helps...

My current dedicated* server is 8 Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3470 @ 2.93GHz 1200.000 MHz Cache 8192 KB and currently has 8GB of RAM. I am considering upgrading the RAM to 16GB and also adding in an 128GB SSD where I plan to put my home directory and the databases on, to optimize performance, and hopefully speed up the upgrade process. Server dedicated to my forums but I have a few small hosting clients nothing really resource intensive. Pros, Cons, observations, and suggestions welcomed!

Hello, I recently purchased a new server running CentOS 6.6 x64 and installed VestaCP along with MariaDB, nginx, Apache, Zend OPCache & Memcached. The installation was successful, the forum loading time was really fast (as expected) but the only problem I encountered was with posting a reply, sending a PM or even updating your status, took ~30 for the page to refresh. I did some testing and the PM would be sent within 2 seconds but for some reason it took IPB 30 seconds to refresh after clicking the "Post" button to display the new PM which was sent. Same thing goes with topic replies, it takes ~30 seconds after clicking post for the post to show. I have shoutbo…

I like the fact that 4x will have delta updates so downloads and uploads should go much faster - but even with a fast internet is there any way to make things faster. Wishful thinking? Login to IPS initiate a transfer Server to Server - zipped file shows up on server in a staging area.Decompress files (full or delta) remotely on server in the staging area.Issue some command or script to move files & directories to destination path preserving same features as uploading files via FTP - (merge directories and overwrite files)even if there isn't a way to do it server to server directly at least the latter two options.

I'm having difficulty getting KeepAlive to function on my forum. I have Apache set up properly for this, it working for non-forum directory pages (i.e. the rest of the site) but anything in my /forum/ directory is setting the connection to 'close'? Is this by design somehow? Is it being forced closed by the forum software? If so, why?

Hello, I have this message on www.site.tld/ips4.php. My MariaDB is upgraded from 5.5 to 10.0 This is trouble for IPS? You are running MySQL version 5.5.5-10.0.17-MariaDB.While this version is compatible, we recommend version 5.6.0 or above, but this is not essential. You may wish to contact your hosting provider or system administrator to ask for an upgrade if you are upgrading to IPS4. All database tables UTF8.
