My website is running on HTTPS, and some of my users can't enter the chat because their browsers block insecure content from IPS Chat server (via HTTP). There are only two ways to launch chat on HTTPS: Teach all users every time when they want to enter the chat manually allow loading insecure content Change chat code to work via HTTPS. The first variant is impossible for me, so I tried to make second. I had manually edited chat JS-script adding https:// instead of http://. Most of the errors in console disappeared. But I still get one error: Failed to load resource: net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE As I see, it's because chat server has self-signed SSL certificate https://s…

I have noticed that the upgrade from 3.4.7 to 4.0RC7a even after all the background task are ran the "[ code ]" tags are not being converted into the new ckeditors code. I was wondering if anyone else can confirm this. Also has anyone found a work around?

One thing I've noticed with IPS 4 is that there's a lot of "bouncing" often when pages are loading. Here's an example with the Top Contributors block: I understand that it's not a bug and it's how things are handled at the moment, so that the Javascript doesn't kick in until the DOM has been loaded, etc., but I think steps should be taken to improve this through CSS. Other examples are the width of container elements changing from mobile width to full width as the page is loading, etc.

I am curious if we need the current location represented to the user three times. Forums, Forums and Forums This also creates a bunch of wasted space. I would rather see the large Forums removed and the Header and Block Title line up This layout causes problems in other areas too. In Articles the space is even more pronounced. What if buttons like "Add New Article" and "Submit A File" were moved into some kind of Tools Widget you could drop into the sidebar, or just put it into a drop down menu as it's taking up a lot of real estate for something you use less than you look at.

When using the "Auto embed" function on twitter, the embedded tweet doesnt scale down if the screen is small (mobile etc). But if you embed with HTML instead, it does scale down. Any shot that you will fix this, useless to use the autoembedd when it is like this due to many users using cellphones.

Using RC7a on Ubuntu Linux. The default sort order for a forum is "Last Reply". While at the same time in the ACP it is set to "Recently Updated", the option "Last Reply" is not available in the drop-down. How can i set the forum default to "Recently updated"? Is this a bug? I saw this when I noticed the following issue: Imported RSS items are not always shown in chronological order if the forum topic order is set to "Last Reply". If "Recently Updated" is selected it works and newly imported items are displayed at the top.

On the home page there is a fun little box that shows top contributors by week, month etc. The problem is if one isn't on that list they have no idea where they rank. Sometimes I wonder if I am close or miles away. I was thinking a nice change would be to add a bottom row that shows "YOU" (respectively "you" would be logged in registered member). This could be a nice way to encourage people to contribute more.

I'd like to suggest the Recent Entries widget/block has the dates of the entries added to it. Regularly when I load this site I see "IP.Board 3.3.x, 3.4.x Security Update" which immediately causes me to check the blog entry, only to find I've already read it and didn't need to worry. A simple date element on this widget/block would let me know it's an older entry that I can ignore.

Per title. Without them, you are basically feature-freezing the core app extensions to third party developers. For example, there is no real way for me to update my pages comments/follow mod for 4, because I can neither add the Notifications extension, nor can I add the MemberSync extension to handle merges/deletes via plugin. The latter I can hook around, sure. The former I cannot, and this is but one example, I'm certain there are many more. That is by no means an application, nor should it be. Just to head off the reply that if I need an extension it should be an app.

Hello, If I find one customer for IPB, what do I get ? An other question, by the way : For a "Community in the Cloud", monthly price is 20$. But is it a monthly billing, or a commercial advertising ?

I would suggest to cutoff the article excerpt to e.g. 500 characters instead of hiding this via css to avoid html-bloating. e.g. I use this in the template "category articles" but beware I am not a coder <section class='ipsType_normal ipsType_richText ipsType_break ipsSpacer_both' data-ipsTruncate data-ipsTruncate-size='7 lines' data-ipsTruncate-type='remove'> <a href='{$record->url()}'> {{if $record->record_image}} <div class="cCmsRecord_image"> <img class="ipsImage" src="{$record->record_image}"> </div> </a> {{endif}} {{$trc=substr($record->truncated(),0,strpos($record->trunc…

when using pages and adding some articles, the og:description holds the whole article and bloats the html page. I would suggest to use only max 200 characters for the description. E.g. in the includeMeta Template I use this code: {{foreach \IPS\Output::i()->metaTags as $name => $content}} {{if $name != 'title'}} {{if is_array( $content ) }} {{foreach $content as $_value }} <meta {{if mb_substr( $name, 0, 3 ) === 'og:'}}property{{else}}name{{endif}}="{$name}" content="{{substr($_value,0,strpos($_value, ' ', 200));}}"> {{endforeach}} {{else}} <meta {{if mb_substr( $name, 0, 3 ) === 'og:'}}property{{else}}name{{endif}}="{$name}" content="{{$t…

I think that it would be a really good idea for the chat rooms to have a feature where certain groups or admins could have the ability to call a custom message by using a keyword. For example, if the chat was used as a support service by a company and 1/2 people who came in were asking the same question, you could pre-program a command such as !upgrade which would then either be converted to a custom message which an admin had pre-set or there would be a robot user (such as night-bot on twitch.tv) which would then post a response to the command. I think that this would be a really useful feature

Why do blogs have this annoying transparency overly - and how do you remove it.

Using mobile Chrome (on iOS) to browse these forums. The major glitch is that when I open a thread and click on the quick reply box it doesn't register any of my typing - it seems to require me to tap in and out of the editor several times before it finally stops glitching and accepts my input.

Pretty please, an option in the admin panel or if not is it possible to change the CK Editor, if so how? Even starting this topic on an iPad the editor didn't load first time round, after refresh too 3 or 4 taps to get started. This editor doesn't play nice at all with mobiles and tablets, desktop great (apart from a pain to clear quotes) I'm having no end of complaints, not sure how many more times I can respond with refresh the page, almost emailed myself earlier to complain it's that bad.

I understand that IPB can't produce software to assist every niche site owners dreams, but shouldn't it be well equipped to handle the needs of those who run image boards? I wouldn't think that's a small niche. I really wish that this is what was in the ACP, but it's NOT there (see screen shot)

Social media sites have drummed into me that such red bubbles mean, there are some I M P O R T A N T new messages or notifications I should quickly deal with, and when I do, the bubble goes away. But this chat bubble is there all the time. Even when there isn’t even someone in the chat, it seeks my attention with that “alarming” red color to scream at me “NO ONE IN THE CHAT ROOM” all the time. So, wouldn’t a less alarming color be more appropriate, @Rikki?

I brought this up on the old test site and there was decent support for it. Please show the Hide message to the person who posted the message that was hidden. It would make it a much easier way of communicating what was wrong (for smaller issues especially) rather than going to PM them or issuing a formal warning. This is my moderating team's most missed feature from vBulletin.

Tried to post this as a bug but @Andy Millne shut it. Why is IPB4 programmed in a way that allows a user to post blank (spaces only) posts? What is the benefit of allowing this which means they are unprepared to change the behaviour - even forcing just a single alphanumeric character would be better?!.

I spent money for a ssl for a reason. so people know the information they're putting in is secure.. I've mentioned this in the bug section before. If someones shopping they need to know everywhere that's secure is secure. How is the average shopper who's been trained to look for a ssl before entering any information going to feel safe at a site they need to make a guess if the site page is secure or login or any form or part of the site is secure if the ssl doesn't show in the address bar? You can see here in this bug report what Mark H says http://community.invisionpower.com/4bugtrack/rc3-https-for-logins-redirect-loop-r3443/ For anyone reading... it's not obvious, but …
