Hi, As per suggestions made here, I decided to move from Apache to nginx. Performance is about the same, so I imagine a few tweaks might be necessary. Information about our hardware specs, traffic, and forum stats are already posted here: http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/396624-ipb-aggressive-caching/ Please evaluate as below and let me know what I could be adjusting. Thanks. My current config: nginx.conf: worker_processes 1; worker_connections 2048; keepalive_timeout 5; Top: top - 15:11:45 up 312 days, 17:34, 1 user, load average: 2,19, 1,91, 2,34 Tasks: 186 total, 3 running, 183 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie %Cpu(s): 12,2 u…

As we have a high-traffic forums, we are having some performance issues, to the point nobody can enter our forums. Analyzing with SHOW PROCESSLIST, we saw several locked tables, in particular skin_cache, sessions, and members. Converted these three tables to InnoDB. I don't have bad experience with InnoDB in the past, as on vBulletin it actually decreased performance. However, it seems, at least for me, that selectively using InnoDB in a few tables (those listed above) performance really improved and solved our availability issues (at least for now). I'd love to hear from other people who manage high-traffic forums and their experience with performance…

I never knew about Cache til i started having some problems with my server. I've been told to set up one of those memcache and the rest to get rid of the cache. My host says that I can't unless its a plugin from IPB. I really don't know what to do. How can i fix this cache issue? Is there any plugin? Or any manual way?

Hi After upgrading MySQL I noticed that the default database engine is now INNODB, while my ipb installation is set so the original tables are all MyISAM. Can I safely convert my MyISAM tables to INNODB? I understand that tables that use full text indexing cannot be converted to INNODB. Cheers John

Hi There, I'd like to raise the upload limit on my site to 300MB in IP Downloads. Chaging the upload size alone is not enough because large files are timing out and getting the "No File was selected for upload" error. From reading around it seems these settings need to be changed in my php.ini But changed to what? Anyone have recommendations for what these three settings should be set to for 300MB uploads?

Hey guys... So I own my own Linux CentOS 6.5 dedicated server, it's a 12 core server with 8GB RAM.. I have cPanel/WHM installed on it etc.. - For the past 5 hours (approx) my server has been randomly giving me Internal Server Errors, yet when I check the Apache logs, nothing reports.. I was trying to put IP.Board 3.1.x on simply because I want to take some template edits from it to import/use on IP.Board 3.4.6. However, when I tried to install it (after uploading the files) it just came up with ISE.. (Internal Server Error).. So I logged into SSH and did the following (saves time uploading via FTP) root@darknight [/home/<snip>/public_html/phpbb]# wget https://…

Why is the Forum slow after a DB restore? We've had performance issues on our P.Board installation for 1,5 months. Our host had some kind of problem with the db server on 22 Oct and the ibf_posts got corrupt, ending in a db restore. After re-cache and letting it sit for a few days it was still slow. We're on a shared hosting plan, as we want to spend our time serving the members in our community rather than patching os, installing apache and MySQL and fiddling with backups on a VPS. Even with Performance mode on, it was slow, so we upgraded our plan to be allowed to use more CPU load and allocate PHP memory to 256 MB, (we only had 64 MB). It became tempor…

I'm running into an SEO question regarding the weighting of the Forums vs. the weighting of Content. We have our content articles use the forums for comments. Searching in Google almost always brings up the Forum post instead of the Content post. For example doing a search for the title of a content article: "site:cheersandgears.com General Motors Urges Their Dealers To Setup A Tech Center" Only returns the forum post, a page listing tags, lots and lots of stuff except the actual article page. This is very frustrating.... any tips?

I will be moving next month to a VPS hosting, not only that I am starting to outgrow my current shared plan, but also for extra capabilities and hopefully faster page loads. The host is offering both SSD and HDD packages at the same price. The SSD is 10gb, the HDD is 50. RIght now my site is smallish and I can fit in to the 10GB and have some space to grow, but eventually in 6 months I expect that 10gb might not be enough, probably even sooner. My question is, does SSD make sense when hosting IPB? I see there are opinions that for some purposes there will be no difference between SSD and HDD and for some others it is very advantageous to have SSD. Don't know whi…

Is there a specific setting in ACP for Mandrill or do I just enter the information for the SMTP server in the System Settings > Email Setup > SMTP setup area? I've read in this forum about Mandrill integration, but I didn't see any specific area for Mandrill in the ACP. Thanks!

Hello, Searching on the forum I came to the conclusion that InnoDB can boost my mysql performance. Ok, but I have to convert every table or it's better to convert just some of them and leave the rest as myIsam ? Another question. I'm considering running MariaDB too. Can I continue to use myphpadmin with Maria, since it's the "sucessor" of mysql or I will have to everything via SSH ? Thank you and have a nice day!

Hello Is it better to use APC and Memcache together or only one for better performance? I am confused about what i read for them as a few users talking about that they can cache different things and is faster to use both. Some other users talking that is better to use only one for better performance. Ok i know for many servers the solution is Memcached but for only one server how can i benefit more from caching? Thank you

I mean, your forum and your server! I'm trying to get a ballpark for server sizing vis-a-vis the concurrency (users) of your forum. Not theoretical numbers as such, but more what people are actually experiencing While I am in the process of looking for a new host, per the rules of this forum I'm not looking for specific hosting company names. I'm trying to establish if I can lower my bill and go to a VPS from a dedicated, and because there are so many factors in play in that equation, I'd like to get a sense of what others are getting from their setup. My forum: Peak online users 15 minutes as reported by IPB: 622 "Average" online users over 15 minutes: 47…

I have an own cms from the good old days and think importing all my articles about 2000 in IPS CMS. Any hints where to start this? Because there is no standard importer for that ;-). Technical documentation or which fields has to be filled  . Categories, tags, teaser, article and all the standard stuff is in my previous system. Pictures should not imported because they are not attached in the article, which makes it probably difficult. They are inside the article. I think I can get everything out in a proper way. Export the fields should be no problem. If you work with the CMS do you store all pictures in the media manager? Also…

On my forums I have it so that when you register to join my forums you get an email that you need to open to verify it... It worked at first but for some reason now it wont work. I did a test myself and the message said that "The owner(or whatever it said) has chosen to have you verify your account. You will receive a message in about 10 minutes." (well not exact words) but... I never got the email, so I tried another Email, also people apart of my community tried to sign up but they never got the email either. It wasn't in the inbox or spam. So I have to accept them manually.. It says that their stuff is validating though, but they don't get the email... How do I fix thi…
