Hi, I am thinking about starting out with a VPS from Linode to host a new IP. Community. Looking forward to learn managing an VPS, but I need some advice on where to start. The reason I am asking here is because I am sure I could get some useful advice here. I know a bit about Linux but it is quite limited and there is a lot to choose from. First, obviously I have to choose a Linux distribution. I narrowed it down to Ubuntu, Debian and CentOS. I am leaning towards Debian, however others say that I should start with Ubuntu because it is more easier for those who aren't well-versed. Others again say that Debian is more stable, etc. Secondly, the choose between Nginx in a …

Does IPB provide an interface for account registration? I want to tie in my website account registration with IPB, so when someone registers on my website, it'll also fire ipb_register_user($username, $password, ...) or perhaps provide a class that could be updated. If IPB doesn't have anything like this, then 1) is the 'members' table the only place I need to insert the user? and 2) how IPB hashes passwords? I'm using BCrypt but I recall IPB did something like md5(md5(password), salt). Thank you! Edit: I'm using IPB 3.4.x

My box runs Cpanel. It has one 1 GB HDD and I am adding a 250 GB SSD. I need help to set up the box to use the SSD for the system, databases and static files. I want to make 2 500 GB partitions on the HDD. One for logs and back ups, and the other one as a mirror of the SSD in case o failure. Is that possible to achieve what I want in Cpanel? Over the internet I only could find articles about running different channel accounts on different drives or partitions. That's not what I want. I want all accounts running from SSD, only logs and back ups on HDD and if possible a security exact copy of the SSD tu use in case o failure.

Hi there I wonder if my IPB forum is bad for my overall SEO I have a Word Press site with e.g. 200 Word press post/articles and growing. It’s on this part of the site I want to gain/keep my god SEO results. I also run an IP. board within the same site The board part has around 800-1000 new posts/day. This forum activity does create a lot of way to long titles/duplicate page title and so on. Right now I have about 4.433 title issues when I read my Google webmaster tools/SEO MOZ analyzes. Does this hurt my overall SEO for the Word Press part? If YES - does anyone have a solution, so I can avoid too long and duplicate page title on my board? What do you guys…

Hi guys, Here I am with server load issues again. There are times that load is above 100. Right now it is 47. Definetely not right. Please see screenshots. Usually it stays below 10. During peak times, it gets around 13-14, but not more than that. BTW. Our forum is specific to a given country (Brazil), so traffic follows the business time in this country. What is unusual is that we are seeing this high load "afterhours". These screenshots were taken around 10:00 PM Brasilia time. Which makes everything even more intriguing, as if this was caused by normal traffic, we would see this high load during the day, and not at night. As you can see, there is plenty of available…

This is a huge issue i'm experiencing, as my users aren't receiving validation emails or password reset emails. I contacted IPS support and they told me: I have a VPS from Godaddy and it's not full managed so I can't get help from them (expected to know how to handle a VPS myself). For the most part this is fine but I can't figure out what's wrong. If anyone could give me some insight on how to solve this it'd be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am willing to move my webserver to SSL. The main problem I am facing is that the browser complains that there are external scripts that are not encrypted (tags from ad networks such as OpenX, Tribal Fusion, etcetera), and thus advertisement is blocked on our forum. Any tips on how to deal with that? Thanks, Gabriel.

Hi, I am moving from Xcache to memcached for storing variables. A few questions: 1. Is this a smart move, performance-wise? 2. What is the recommended cache size? I am leaving at the default of 64 MB. 3. Is it possible for IPB to connect to memcached using a Linux socket instead of IP address for best performance? If so, how to configure this on conf_global.php? On memcache I know I just need to add the following lines in /etc/memcached.conf and make sure /var/run/memcached is set for user nobody: -s /var/run/memcached/memcached.sock -a 0766 Thanks in advance. Gabriel.

Hey guys, I have a WHM VPS and am looking to try out the new IP.Board, but I'm getting an error: You do not have the MySQLi PHP extension loaded which is required. You should contact your hosting provider or system administrator to ask for it to be installed. I've taken care of everything else needed but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this. If I could get any help I'd really appreciate it.

Hi, Recently I started messing around with the IPS Suite, and I found several issues using FastCGI, for starters I get errors in the install process. So I switched the handler to Apache module, and everything seems to work perfectly. Weird, because I never had issues from 3.2 to 3.4.7 using FastCGI. What are the cons and pros of using one or the other to host this forum software?

Was considering the Amazon S3 storage for file storage but other then knowing how big my "uploads" directory is I am not sure how to guess the puts/gets and transfers. What is a typical budget for something like this. Will this boost server performance?

Hello everyone we have varnish cache installed on our forum ( IP.Board 3.2.3), but with it there is a problem that we can't solve. After starting a new topic, forum have difficulties to redirect to the new topic created; indeed often it shows a blank page, so the user think that the topic was not created, turn back and press "send" again. Then we have 10-15 identical topics. Can you help us to solve this problem? Thanks everyone Bye

is there anyway to stop the replacement of a "c" in parenthesis from being replaced by a copyright symbol. (c). Our forums are dedicated to building code questions and the "c" is used pretty often in code references. Version: 3.4.7

The server guys have been very helpful in optimizing my website but during peak periods i still get the odd error and the forum runs slow so I was wondering if someone had any tips for me? My forum is www.avillafan.com/forum The last thing I want to do is purchase a bigger server package as things are already very expensive as it is.

No matter what I do this method just returns false. I know for a fact my user/pass are correct as well. if (IPSMember::authenticateMember("user", md5("pass"))) { echo("authenticated"); } else { echo("failed"); }
