rgf100 reacted to Morrigan in Pages Blocks enhancements
So I have a ton of blocks and well I'm starting to lose control of them and figured it may be a good idea to request some feature enhancements for it so that I can both clean up my blocks and also use them more efficiently.

Of course there is categorizing which is great but sometimes I mis-categorize some of my blocks. This is a particular pain point when you have to look for it on the front end. The enhancements on the front end I'd like are:
Categories collapsed by default when you open the edit bit, this way I don't have to scroll through my massive list of blocks or manually close them until the right category comes up. Ability to search the list like you can search in the ACP, just a quick like "block title" search that filters out any blocks that don't have that title. It would just make life so much easier. Next! I don't know which of my blocks are in circulation and where so trying to clean up, organize and get rid of unused blocks is a nightmare. Right now I see a list of blocks with the code and that's it and since I use a lot of Plugins the title could be repeated. The enhancements I'd like for this:
At minimum I want a count of how many locations that a block is located on the manage screen. Bonus points if you can click on that number and see the locations like: Forums > Index, Page > Test, Gallery > Albums, Gallery > Categories
The physical location doesn't matter (As in sidebar, header or footer) to me as much as the page it exists on.

The 'popular posts' bit in the new topic summaries are a step in the right direction. But there's so much more that could be done.

I was going to post a new topic about this, but figured I'd bump this. Here's what I wrote:
Genuinely disappointed in the lack of engagement on this. If it's a dumb idea that has been rightfully ignored for 3.5 years, say so and I'll be quiet about it. If I've missed some new option in 4.4, I'll put my hands up and apologise.
Edit: AND imagine how powerful this would be with social media promotion. Automatically (or automatically queue for admin approval) post to Twitter any post that gets X likes. The site would run itself!

I've just mentioned this twice in other topics with reference to the activity streams and search functions, but I'm sticking it up separately as I really do think it's important.
The use of the reputation system in content discovery seems to be zero. Here we are, our members telling us 'this is a good post' - and we don't seem to be able to use that info. Right off the top of my head here are some ways we could be using that information:
    1) Show me posts with 10 or more likes - instantly you're getting a 'best of the board' feed
    2) Search for posts in topics with '4.1 upgrade failed', rank by likes - you get solutions or explanations of the problem
    3) Show me posts by users with over 1,000 likes - find out what our most valuable users are saying
    4) Blocks of most popular posts over the last 7/28/365 days - showcase to new members of our  best content; stuff to highlight in the newsletter
    5) Show me my highest rated posts - the ultimate ego-search. What do people love most about you?
    6) People who liked this post also liked...
    7) Loads of others, I bet
I find it remarkable that the time was taken to let us filter by number of replies or views, but not by how GOOD something has been judged to be. Major missed opportunity, IMHO.
Now, it is traditional at this point for someone to point out that actually all of these things are possible, I just haven't noticed how. Do go ahead...

rgf100 got a reaction from kmk in Topic Summary suggestions
I like the new topic summary boxes, but have a few thoughts...
"TOP POSTERS IN THIS TOPIC" - it's more likely people will want to read the posts, than the posters' profiles. If there's any way to bring together the posts someone has made (perhaps by minimising other posts?) that would be good, otherwise I'd have that link to the person's first / highest rated post in that topic.
The "POPULAR POSTS" bit - I'm not sure how intuitive clicking on the date is. I'd make the post text snippet clickable (and perhaps that whole div, with the userphoto / name also going to the post, although I realise this would be inconsistent with behaviour elsewhere.
POSTED IMAGES - I like this, but there's no way to get from the images to the associated post. I think there should be.

Caution! The 'stop emails' options for members who aren't logged-in actually removes ALL notifications, including on-site. This caught me by surprise and I now have hundreds of topics I want on-site notifications for, which have been set to 'no notifications'. I've got a ticket in to see if this is intended behaviour.

I don't have the commerce app, but from searching it looks like it's not currently possible to allow users to pay what they want for subscriptions. I think this'd be a nice addition. If you're running a fairly standard avatar / pm space / private forum deal to raise funds for your community, it'd be helpful to let folk who think it's worth a dollar pay a dollar, and those who think it's worth ten dollars pay ten dollars

Appreciated, but I'm not keen on third party add-ons, and would hope to avoid where a disappeared dev could cause major issues. In this case I'd likely just have a wide range of subscription prices.

First off, many thanks for putting that no-login unfollow link in email notifications. I've been wanted to see that for AGES.
    Now the suggestion bit.
Currently, if you're not logged in, you get the option to unsubscribe to emails for that item, or for everything. If you're logged in, you get to adjust options for that one single item.
I'd like to see a more obvious 'no more emails, thanks' option for logged-in members. It's 2019, there's no reason to be making this any harder than it needs to be. Yes, they can click through and adjust notification options. I don't think they should have to.
Also, does the current set up also remove them from the admin emails list? I think it probably should, or that should be there as another option.

    1) I like it.
    2) They end up doing the captcha on the post page, and the fill in your details page. That seems rude.
    3) Would be helpful if language could be changed on the validation and details page: "Click the button below to validate your account and display your pending posts. " or similar
    4) Eventually I think we should be collecting all details on the post page. You're already getting email address, you just need a username and password. Or even automatically generate those and send out an email with details?
    5) Are there stats for us on how often this feature is being used? Can we see 'pending' posts anywhere? I'd like to keep an eye on them - if there's something really valuable, I might chase up a feckless register, for example.

    1) how do you know? aren't these hidden until the user validates?
    2) Does it make a difference to usual? It's the same captcha (do you have one?) and email validation process as before, just a bit more streamlined.

That makes sense (and while I have you here, does this also fix the bug with club content showing in those blocks? I have a ticket open on that). However I think admin staff should have the option to see those posts, perhaps in the ModCP alongside hidden content. There could be useful content I want to approve even if it gets credited to 'guest', or I might spot an easily bannable spammer, stuff like that. And... it's my site, I like to be able to see what's going on.
