Claudia999 got a reaction from kmk in Hump Day: pages, pages, pages
    Hi @Jordan Invision
we use Pages a lot I think. On my wishlist are still
more possibilities for interaction with our community in articles - polls, surveys, forms etc. Schema.org markers as FAQ or How-to SEO features – more than meta keywords and meta description as now, but also SEO title, settings for no-follow etc. per article or Pages database entry a "Table of content" by default, which can be switched off per article additional fields for images (alt text, title, caption, credit, license, image source as URL and so on) better management and SEO options for images background images for categories as for forums grid viewtext area for category descriptions (and not only one text field) an option to show category descriptions only on category sites and not in categories overview. widgets per category and not for all categories together (yes, there's an app for that) the option to set multiple authors for one article snippet preview at least in ACP better options in menu manager to include a single entry from a Pages database (an article for example). So many menu entries are "external links" but actually "things" in Pages. Before we switched from WordPress to Pages, our pain point was for a long time the ugly standard template. I think you give away a lot of potential with the developer driven, more technocratic template. If you want to convince people about Pages, you need a nice article template out of the box. (You should hire @opentype completely 🙂) Once Pages is understood, the many possibilities become more accessible.

Hi there, is there a live instance or a demo of this somwhere.
i may have several use cases for this but i am not sure i can achieve what i want to do. My idea would be to display pages DB records on a map with the users able to browse the map and access records.
it would eb great if DB catgeories could have their own map with only the entries from the category, and even a small map block on each entry page...

Sometimes you have to take a longer route to express your desires for the application to provide for.  Everything you mentioned I agree with and I am not under the illusion that this is something that can be cobbled together and added quickly.  The whole Page application needs a complete overhaul and revamp.  It's showcased as potentially the most powerful application in the suite, but its use cases are incredibly limited, especially for novices who would probably love to use the application but user experience is sadly lacking for this group of users. Not everyone is a coder, not everyone can manipulate backend code and CSS to achieve a desired outcome, so for the uninitiated Pages is taken out of their reach.
With some imagination and seeing what other page builders can do, especially with drag and drop, Pages could become the most sought after application in the suite.  Let's see what the dev team come back with in response to our observations and request 🙂

I've spoken briefly in other topics on how lamentable the Pages app is for those who do not possess the skills to create their own templates and layouts. The Pages app is heralded as one of the most powerful applications in the suite, and it may be for those who can harness the power it yields.  For everyone else it is a minefield to navigate and a lot of people either just give up on it or resort to plugins from the marketplace, which are generally pretty good at what they offer but they are limited by the functions which developer has designed the plugin to do.
One of the most powerful page layout generators I have come across is a WordPress plugin called the Divi Builder (made by www.elgantthemes.com) - it is one hell of a powerful tool that allows you to develop complex pages using adaptable rows and columns.  An example of some of the basic layouts offered (which can be applied on a row by row basis) is shown below:

At present, Pages is constrained to 1,2 or 3 column layouts which cannot be applied on a row by row basis.  For example you CAN mix some columns in Pages but you are stuck with X number of columns on top/bottom with a single column that sits above or below; you can't have single column, two/three column another single column and another two/three column layout, etc.
The other pain with Pages is that the column widths are non-negotiable; two columns will span the width of the container equally - you can't have one column take up 60% of the real estate with the other column taking up the other 40%, that is incredibly restrictive.
I'm not advocating that Pages mimic the Divi Builder in all of the features it brings - it's module based and there are loads of different modules that can be dragged into the layout - but Pages can make a start by giving more power to layouts.  That would be a massive improvement on what sits there now.
The other noticeable missing aspect is the ability to add pages to a page layout.  Very long articles would be better if they were broken into pages much like a book.  Single column layouts could have an added feature of making a page columned where the text will flow naturally from one column to another, much as it does in Microsoft Word, for those reading on wider screens.
Stacking order for columns on smaller screens would be another feature bonus where you can choose to stack the most important blocks near the top with the least important below.
This is just the tip of the iceberg as to what Pages can become as truly outstanding CMS application within the IPS Suite.  How much work would lie behind such an undertaking I have no idea, but it would be worthwhile and it would be a huge boon to those who want to harness the power of the Pages application and create some beautiful page layouts that capture the imagination.
Thoughts? More suggestions also welcome as this is something that can be of benefit to everyone.  Thanks for reading.

It goes without saying that we all want every one of  the marketplace apps to be updated within days of a new release.  We need to better manage our expectations as Adriano has a very large collection of marketplace and custom apps that he supports. They will all be updated when they get updated and not a moment sooner.
Coding and testing works best when you are in a good frame of mind.  Being constantly pestered for updates is unlikely to put Adriano in such a state.  Be of good cheer@Adriano Fariaand the other marketplace developers, we appreciate all of you...

It's a bit concerning to see security issues not addressed for 4.5, and forcing an upgrade to 4.6. While we are in the process of testing, things aren't at a state yet here in the community where third-party developers have released compatible updates to their extensions.
    Why isn't there a 4.5 patch? See:
Some guidance and communication on when a branch will become end of life would be appreciated.

I want my community to be the income oriented platform and professional profit focused ecosystem. The below features are the tools to achieve mentioned goal:
    CONTENT
    1. Allow Administrator to change the TopicStarter (Author).
Some Authors can be banned or deleted from community, but topic can be popular and deserves to stay.
    2. Option to limit members from change topic title and first message separately.
Most members creating misspelled topic titles and Administrator can edit more correct and SEO-friendly.
    3. If Reply to this status..., then updated status goes UP in All Activity feed and in Members own feed.
Improves moderation and in profiles activity.
    4. Share this post on other sites: Add WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Instagram, Tumblr, VK, XING. + Add the setup option for this feature in the AdminCP.
    5. Display icons on Pinned topics and Recommended posts in All Activity feed.
    6. Built-in translator for messages in other languages.
    7. Members can Pin own message on its Profiles Activity feed.
    8. Auto-width size of Excel table after copy-paste.
    9. If Delete All Content (Members) then delete created Clubs too.
If I want to delete all the content of specific user, It should be erased completely! No need ghost-clubs, except the Public ones.
    ECOSYSTEM
    10. Setup permissions for members group that way, so the members of "one group" could see each other content, but other groups can't see "one group" content. Like parallel world in the same community. + Hide "one group" content from search engines.
Within the framework of freedom of speech, that is a good feature to hide and allow sensitive content.
    11. Option to leave the community. Ex.: Member leaved the community N minutes ago
Sometimes Members asks to delete their account. Let them do it ourselves. And let them to decide in deletion menu to stay posted content as Guests or Delete All Content.
    12. Set up premium buttons for Members to pay for extra options on direct pages: pin topic, change members group, recommend post, promote.
    Admin pre moderation.
    13. Feature to automatically delete inactive members for the period of time.
I don't want dead souls on board and make illusion for members that we have thousands active members. So better to make feature to set a timeframe for inactive members after that they can be automatically deleted from the community.
    WORD FILTERS
    14. Word Filters for About Me in profiles, Usernames, Tags.
Unfortunately Members can still avoid and post inappropriate content in mentioned sections.
    15. If Added new word to filter, all the filtered content must be updated regarding Action to take.
Before I added another word to filter there is still hundreds of active topics and thousand active messages with the banned word.
    16. When any content is hidden for moderation approval on the Words Filter basis, highlight the banned words for Administrator.
It needs a lot of time for moderator\admin to understand why the message was filtered: hard to find a filtered word in long texts.
    17. Text Editor for Replace with text action in Word Filters. Ability to chage color for replaced text.
Amex credit card holders Indian or any country cards can be filtered word.
Amex credit card holders Indian or any country cards can be filtered word.
To pay more attention to the rules for intruders.
    18. Add new action to take: Hide\Reveal objectionable word.
Instead of replacing text create to hide the objectionable word instead and a user simply places their mouse cursor over the top of it to reveal the word.

The objectionable word is still present just obscured from view unless someone chooses to reveal it.

Claudia999 reacted to christopher-w in Our Picks to single column
It's actually very easy to reconfigure Our Picks - starting with a custom block as @Nathan Explosion suggested.
You just need to take a deep breath @breatheheavy 😉 and get to grips with the default block code and reconfigure it to suit.  A few days learning CSS, in particular flex, grid and selectors, pays considerable dividends on the front end.
    Background.
We've used promoted items as the basis of our (still! in development ) homepage. The user can reconfigure the view from a simple list, to a grouped view as required - preferences are stored in cookies. A filter (buttons on desktop and dropdown on mobile) allows individual content types to to selected. It's not finished yet (currently considering  implementing Google street view for the jobs section) and for the home page we hope to end up with something close to the Apple News mobile view. Anyway, a few in dev screen grabs below. It's almost exclusively CSS grid based which allows items to easily span multiple columns. So for example you could get featured promoted items to span x columns simply by applying a class at the item level and adding the appropriate css. You can see span (row and column) working in the group and mobile screen shots below.
The grouping feature we provided requires individual items to be wrapped in a container on page load (jQuery wrapall). It could be done in the custom block but I am a better JS coder than I am PHP. Morphing animations between configurations (not shown here obviously) are provided by the excellent Greensock Flip plugin.
This is the home page as it stands. Note filter and grouping options. Global menu location and styling still in flux.

This shows same filtered on Classifieds. Same approach will be used for clubs and blogs home pages.

This shows filtering and grouping. Rode Podcaster is shown as primary item in this case as it's first in the selection. That's a simple css choice. It could also be selected if the underlying content was featured, pinned etc.

Here's the mobile view showing selected topics. Getting closer to the Apple News style as mentioned earlier. Note the HBO topic spans to 100% given it's also a featured item.

I'd say we are about 3/4 through development, although not all the remaining 25% is a go live requirement. Note btw, none of the above items are finished in terms of final appearance, line clamping, call to action etc.
I'll upload our jobs page in a week or so if anybody is interested. It sits on Datatables which we've tested with 5000 rows sitting in the browser -> offers user configurable real time searching 🙂  and filtering, as well as sorting and row and column level grouping - all of it exposed in a rich event driven CSOM.  We currently show all currently selected jobs (and soon to be directories of film studios etc) on a custom MapBox implementation but it's running out of steam, hence the likely and very reluctant £££ move back to Google Maps.
If any of the above is useful I'm happy to share techniques when I have time.

Claudia999 reacted to Sonya* in Is there a mobile app ?
Yes. But it has many bugs.
An app with branding and all the customizations is technically not feasible, I guess or requires tons of programmers. Right now: no customizations, no monetization, no branding. All IPS communities sit in one app like TapaTalk. To have an own app for your community only, you would have to go through Google and Apple approval process to add it to their stores. You, not IPS. It costs.
Another question: why do you need mobile app? If it is because of push notifications, they are integrated in 4.6 without mobile app. Any other reason, you would like to have mobile app? 🙂

Claudia999 reacted to Morrigan in Multiple owners/authors
Again, I don't think this is a feature that needs to be added to forums. This is a feature that needs to be added to pages. Pages has its own thing and I think that Topics need to be unique to the users and SHOULD NOT be shared by multiple people. Pages articles/records, on the other hand, should have this capability especially on large sites where you want content submitters but not necessarily a million moderators.
Its like "group blog" adjacent but at the article/record level of pages where you can add those that are permitted to make changes to the article that are non-staff members.
    So:
I own an article but I need you @Jordan Invision to be able to edit the article because you're a person that knows about the subject/article/company/listing/thing that the article is about. I add you as "additional editors" or whatever you want to call it. Now, even though you're not a mod/admin you have the "can edit" functionality on my article, you can click edit and make changes as needed but I still own the article. Then, lets say you are no longer the business on this article and or no longer interested in updating it. I can remove you and add someone else to edit said article.
That mod only works if you are also using the "account switcher" mod and you allow people to create accounts that multiple people can log into. Which is technically the only solution for what I'm asking for at the moment but the account security there makes me cringe.

Claudia999 reacted to Gangst3r in IPS Pages - some new features suggestions
Hi, I have a few suggestions for Pages App that I miss a lot after switching from Wordpress. The application itself works great and is very flexible, but it still lacks a lot of options, which I will try to describe below.
First of all option which I miss on start is a Poll/Vote option, because I cannot add a poll with voting in any way to article, which is available only in the forum application. It would be great to see  possibility to adding a poll into our articles.
Tables - it is not possible to insert tables with a certain number of columns and rows. This option isn't available in any of the apps, but it would be nice to see one in Pages. For example, I am adding a table with 3 columns and 5 rows, e.g. for movies. The columns contain information such as the name of the film, Production Year and Genre, which can be sorted in ascending or descending order, while in the rows we complete the data related to the columns.
Author Box - as simply as the name suggests, adding the option to insert a small window about the author of the content and a short description of it, which would be added as a widget from the side panel in any selected place, e.g. under the content of an article in Pages.

These are all my suggestions so far, I hope one of them will be in a newer version of Pages.
