Hi, Following Dmacleo's advice, I installed ngx_pagespeed. Now I am stuck with how to configure it... There are too many options! http://ngxpagespeed.com/ngx_pagespeed_example/ Any suggestions of the options that will improve IPB load time and won't generate any kind of issue? Thanks, Gabriel.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to migrate to a new database server (MariaDB 10.2 => MariaDB 10.2, long story) but whenever I try to update the conf_global.php file to use the new database credentials the site goes into a 500 server error on every page. It's an Invision generated page, but there is no error message either on page or in the logs. If I mangle the password then it displays the mysql connection error message on the 500 page. This is the command I'm trying to use to migrate the data: mysqldump --default-character-set=utf8mb4 --add-drop-database --events --routines --triggers --single-transaction -h old.mysql.host -u username -p'oldpassword' database |…

Hello, so our website had a subscription which was in fact a compensation for another paid subscription. However, all members in this subscription have access to the vip group without any expiration. Is there any way to remove/change primary groups of a particular subscription? I don't mind buying a script or a plugin which can do this. Thanks

On my local build, when I try to add a new widget block, I get the error "couldn't save block position". I've tried rebuilding the sitemap, rebuilding the search index, clearing the cache, disabling all 3rd party apps and plugins, disabling friendly urls and reinstalling all the plugins and apps. Anyone know how to solve this one?

Hello IPS fam! Hope everyone's doing ok under the circumstances. Take a deep breath, everything's going to be ok in time. I wanted to get advice on switching to a new server solution that's cost effective. Right now I am paying $620 a month for my server setup + management. Some of my peers who run IPB communities are paying much less for their server per month (even with more people online than my forum). I was wondering if I could get some recommendations as to what you guys use. Here are my current server specs. My website runs great, but as the market dips, so does ad revenue. I need to be proactive and reduce my costs right now. I have 2…

In my local development environment, I keep getting that good ol "background tasks are not running" warning. The go-to fix seems to be the cron job, which I'm capable of setting up, but the reason I haven't is that doing so requires giving terminal lots of permissions that I don't want to give it, out of general simplistic security concerns. Not that it's pivotal or anything but part of me thinks it would be nice to have the local dev build run as closely to the production environment as possible. So I've been tinkering with workarounds. First I wrote an Applescript that just pops open the local site in a minimized browser window and keeps refreshing it every 3 s…

Hi, Clearly we all agree that backups are important. But beyond that it's not so clear exactly what that means. For example How often? Where should back up's live? (locally vs external), How much redundancy is needed? Is RAID and 1 backup enough? ETC? ETC? ETC? One such debate can be had regarding a DataBase backup. The closer to real time your DB backup becomes the less data lost in a catastrophic event. Right? Well not so fast. If corruption to the data base happens, it's likely to also corrupt your backups too. If you're making DB back ups to frequently you could find yourself with a corrupt DB and a corrupt BACKUP. So I want to hear all about you…

Hi, It is our peak traffic season and we are running into an issue with queries timing out that eventually crash the server. It happens several times a day. /*IPS\Data\Store\_Database::set:89*/ REPLACE INTO `ibf_core_store` ( `store_key`, `store_value` ) VALUES ( ?, ? ) IPS\Db\Exception: Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction (1205); We didn't have this issue last year under the same traffic load, so it seems something in our server configuration or software has changed. The table only has 109 rows in it, but takes a very long time to update. Our server load is still very low during these crashes, so it seems like there is a bott…

Hi All, I use IPB 4.1 and installed MEMCACHE on my server. 1) What is the Server address that should be provided ? Is it my Server's IP address and the Port where Memcache is running ? Any other things to be done to make Memcache working ? 2) How does MEMCACHE affect Google Ads ? If a page is cached and served to (lets say, 100 people), the Google Ads in that page render properly ? Do they load different Ads for each of those 100 people ? (or) Ads also get cached and same Ad gets displayed for everyone ?

QUIC (pronounced 'quick') is a general-purpose transport layer network protocol initially designed by Jim Roskind at Google, implemented, and deployed in 2012, announced publicly in 2013 as experimentation broadened, and described to the IETF. Although its name was initially proposed as the acronym for "Quick UDP Internet Connections",IETF's use of the word QUIC is not an acronym; it is simply the name of the protocol. Among other applications, QUIC improves performance of connection-oriented web applications that are currently using TCP. It does this by establishing a number of multiplexed connections between two endpoints over User Datagram Protocol (UDP). Thi…
