Let's say you write an article or have a page where you have a list of documents that readers can download. In this case PDF files but it could be image files just the same. How do you prevent outside websites from linking directly to your files on your server?

Hello, I have a notice at the top of my forum about upgrading to the latest version - 4.7.14. We are self-hosted, so I normally perform upgrades by logging into the ACP. When I try to perform the upgrade via the ACP, the problem I have is that I can't get past step 2 - sign in. I enter my client area username, password and click the toggle to confirm the upgrade, but the page just refreshes. There are no errors or validation messages. I have reset my password via the Invision client area and tried with the updated password, but I get the same issue. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Chris

I want to change my protocol from HTTP to HTTPS. All things are set in the server, but all internal links have HTTP. There are no settings for this in the ACP (i couldn't find it). what should i do?

After I enter username and password, I confirm with "Continue" ("Nadaljuj" on screenshot) and cannot continue to step 3. The loading icon appears for a second and screen with step 2 appears again as indicated on below screenshot.

Hi there, having two major issues with updating: in order to update to the newest version of Invision Community, we updated our php for the website to 8.0.30 from 7.4 . We also followed the hosting provider (Siteground)'s instructions to remove the PHP functions that were deemed dangerous. That error message has not gone away despite their confirming we had done it correctly. I am still not able to update to the new version of Invision, and I'm getting this error message: 1C287/2 You are running PHP version 7.3.33. You need PHP 8.0.0 or above. You should contact your hosting provider or system administrator to ask for an upgrade.

In attempting to follow the requested steps on the ACP to request tech support for an upgrade, I clicked "Disable Third-Party" as prompted. That led to a Gateway Error and the entire site failing to load. My hosting support was able to resolve that, and the site is back, but now I can't access the board or the ACP. I'm needing to upgrade my Invision install prior to migrating to a new server, and now I'm stuck. There are also a couple of database repairs needed, and the Automatic Fix script doesn't work, and I'm not clear on how to run the queries that the upgrade script provides me. Where do I find help on this issue?

Good day folks, hoping to get a little guidance here. I have been dealing with my server generating a 503 error for my community and when I check my server I have a message that my resource limits were exceeded in the last 24 hours. This started happening suddenly about 3 weeks ago and I've been going back n forth with my hosting customer service and I have followed some suggestions they put forth to no avail. Here is the last thing they messaged me: I find it hard to believe that all the sudden my community software needs more resources, but? Any direction is greatly appreciated if you are able to. I have a MemberGroup for the other administrators in one community. This group has limited AdminCP access. For some reason, however, they are not able to edit their own profiles, and I am at a loss to where to look to fix this. Under Groups, the "Can edit own profile" is turned on. Under the AdminCP access, I don't see a setting that would override this. Any ideas?

We have added cloudflare CDN before our server by changing the NS record at domainlevel and added same DNS record (NS1 and 2 along with all MX, A, CNAME, TXT) with cloudflare. Website is working fine, but emails are failing from IPS backend. Is there any new setting needed at the IPS backend too? Please help. When I try to resend a failed email, we get this error message.

Hi there, I'm taking a break from actively moderating my Invision community (self-hosted install), and would like to remove it from the hosting server, and pause or cancel my license while I'm away. Can it be re-installed as-is, at a later time, by renewing the license? That is, restored with all the posts, clubs, and my current customizations. If so, what are the steps I'd need to take? Thanks!

Hello! I am trying to integrate Discord's webhooks with Zapier in order to post new topics that are created in Invision's forums on a Discord channel. However, Zapier says it requires SEO enabled. When I looked into the settings in the AdminCP, it says I need to enable the rewriting of URLs. The example .htaccess file given is for Apache servers and our web host is on a Litespeed server. Would you happen to know how to write the rule for a litespeed server? When our web provider tried doing this, it came with an error that said the rule is not configured properly. I have a community that hasn't received upgrades to the forum software for a while due to an extensive list of customizations to the board, and it sits currently in v.4.1 of IPS Community Suite. What is the best method to upgrade it to the latest v.4.7 branch? The server runs still PHP 7, so that needs to upgrade to PHP 8, and actually we're switching to a whole new server too at the same time. Mainly, is v.4.1 PHP 8.1 compatible? Since this way I could first move to the new server (old upgrade old server to PHP8) and then upgrade IPS to latest version. Making it the other way around seems rather difficult...

Still working on the upgrade to 4.7. All of the old events from the 3.x installation have been uploaded. The date format for the old events was dd mm yyyy. The setting in the 4.7 acp is set the same. But ... go to the front end, on the events page, and use the 'Search Events' form yields no results for any period between 2009 and 2022. The front end does have the date format set as mm/dd/yyyy. 1. Is there a way to change that date format setting for the front end for the search form? 2. Would the default mm/dd/yyyy be the cause of the no search results? Hello, my site: https://carmanualsf.com/ just Errored after uploading new invision community files to FTP. I have tried to do this: I manually uploaded all files via FTP Switched to PHP 8.1 Then ran /admin/upgrade/ This went without any issues After upgrade in ACP I cleared all caches On board index I got some fatal errors, but after removing some Page's templates which I created long time ago and refreshing board index page, errors vanished. So had a rollercoaster of a ride with my hosting providers. In short they made me use a CDN which only allows www. prefix. So I changed my website and configured it to work with it. Okay fine, after a few days turns out it didn't resolve my issue and they made me upgrade to a VPS. Turns out the CDN doesn't work with a VPS and only works with their shared hosting plans... 😴 So then I proceeded to remove the CDN and cancel my plan. Upgraded to a VPS. Transferred everything. Hello, I am trying to do a very simple thing with Zapier. I want to add a new member to a newsletter list in aWeber marketing software. However, when I am logged in to my ACP, I can't see any options. See the screenshot below. The only option available is to Create your own workflow. What does that mean? When I log in Zapier, I can see there are many options, even the one to add a new member from Invision to the newsletter list. Why isn't that option displayed in my ACP? Is that how it works?
