opentype got a reaction from OptimusBain in renewal price is not showing
Pretty sure that is not working as intended. The empty space there below the R means a variable output is missing. Could be an outdated template, a language string problem or something similar. Here is how it looks on one of my sites where initial term and renewal are specified independently, even though they are the same:

    It’s pretty clear.
I don’t think there is an easy way to change the display using the “/” for “per”, but that’s easy to explain in more detail in the description or even the product/subscription title.

Improvements are nice, but my main concern is maintaining existing projects. I would want to know everything that is not possible anymore and learn if there are alternative ways. This includes hacky solutions like putting a MySQL query in a theme template and things like that. I have lots of customized installations and I don’t want them to be stuck with 4.x.

opentype reacted to Dreadknux in Disable Certain Embed Links [Twitter] But Allow Others
The AdminCP setting to "Automatically embed links" applies to every platform that is supported, and while I want to be able to allow embedding of YouTube videos etc I want to DISABLE Twitter links specifically. There appears to be no sub-setting to choose which platforms you can allow embedding on - it would be good to have support for this.
There are multiple reasons I want to disable Twitter specifically:
Embedded tweets take ages to appear on page load, making for a crummy UX for my users Distracts from community content, which is not helpful when Twitter etc are platforms that forums constantly have to compete with for attention - if people really want to see what a tweet says, they should just click the link Twitter going the way of the dodo generally and I really don't want to support it In a perfect world, would be good to have a sub-setting in AdminCP where we can pick and choose which links automatically embed and which ones we can disable... but in the short-term there should just be a mod/hack to allow disabling of Twitter embeds and auto-embedding of everything else. 🙂

The ajax-based menu manager isn’t 100% reliable. I was making some changes to the menu and ended up loosing a parent entry for no apparent reason. And because all the child-entries were set for “one-time use only”, I lost the ability to add forums, gallery and downloads.
It would be good to add some “self-healing” capabilities. For example, when the ACP menu manager is opened, check each entry and if necessary, reset them if they link to a non-existing parent.

But they can now easily start using them and the offer is pretty fair. For example, I’m sure people are hesitant to buy Commerce, but if you already have it in your license, trying out a premium membership will be easy and they might get those $80 back quicker than they thought.

It would be perfect if we could pay with marketplace credit automatic, something like a button in Account Credit page and bum… it’s paid. I would jump right away!

We no longer sell Invision Community Classic with individual applications. This is in preparation for v5 where there will no longer be a separation for the "applications" like there is now. It will just be all bundled together and more tightly integrated.
Old pricing for full Invision Community Classic was $850 upfront and $300 per year.
New pricing is $499 upfront and $199 per year.
You can reach out to sales if you have questions about pricing or options.

Or maybe these problems with Twitter and Meta show that iFrame embeds are not the way forward.
I would be more interested in exploring the options to hooking into the ActivityPub system to connect with Threads, Mastodon and whatever comes next. This could be more reliable and more native (i.e. not requiring iFrames).

So, good luck to Elon with the USPTO. But given his lack of diligence in even just getting a permit for the building sign change, it's probably not going to go well.

I am missing “moderate first X posts” from the group settings. That’s the best measure. If the posts never get published, they will try and give up quickly. If you let them post freely, you invite them to hammer your site with spam.

My wishes centre on internationalisation and localisation because I run a site which must give equal standing to two languages.
Allow admins to provide a FURL for every aspect of a URL. In 4.x the app names are fixed because they come from /applications/[app]/data/furl.json, meaning that non-English sites are condemned to have English words such as files and store in their URLs. Allow admins to create and match equivalent pages depending on the language with their own slugs. For example, you have invisioncommunity.com/features/clubs/ on this site. If it were necessary for you to have a multilingual site, you would be able to create an associated page (very likely with the same content aside from text) with its own slug, such as invisioncommunity.com/trajtoj/kluboj/. When a link is created in the Menu Manager or written within content, the site would know that on click it is to load the language-dependent associated page; is somebody manually types <a href="invisioncommunity.com/features/clubs/"> within a post, the site would redirect to an associated language-dependent associated page. Please move away from the approach of concatenating different language strings as a short-cut. What works in English often doesn't in other languages, and I'm forced to present grammatical mistakes in some parts of my site because words which are plugged in interchangeably in English strings take different forms depending on their grammatical role. My word for a post will have different forms in the superficially similar: {!#[?:%s liked]} %s and %s reacted to %s:, for example. A long shot but please consider providing occasional context of how a language string is used. Translators need to know, for example, whether Report is a noun or a verb. (Incidentially, because of the previous point, I have instructions in an email notification inviting moderators to "Click to see this To report" because if I change to our equivalent noun, then the instruction "Report" on the content containers is the wrong word.)  It might be possible already for people more knowledgable than me but it would often be useful to be able to change the user's language setting via something in the URL. We're a UK-based charity so have English as our default language but our activity is worldwide using another. It'd be great for me if the language could be set as the second one for a visitor following a link such as invisioncommunity.com/cy for Welsh, for example.

opentype got a reaction from Marc Stridgen in Preloading resources and css render blocking
There won’t be an easy fix like just setting preloading, lazy-loading or anything like that. In the end, it’s always the same content that needs to be loaded.
You could improve the internal ads by delivering them as HTML code. Then you could specific the size of the banners to reserve their space and let the browser start rendering earlier. You could then also add lazy-loading, but that should depend on the position of the ad. It would work well for footer ads, but not for above-the-fold ads.

It can be tricky. Many areas expect standard values or you will get cut-off letters (e.g. in the bread-crumb navigation). There is also more than one value because there is the the space between lines and the space between paragraph and dozens of CSS classes that apply in different areas.
A start would be to override this default value and pick a higher number:
.ipsType_normal.ipsType_richText { line-height: 1.6; } This should have an instant effect on forum posts, articles and so on.

Users would need to use the Forgot Password function to set a password and would need to know the email address they used with the linked login method. So you could or should explain that somewhere and inform your users before making the switch.

I have that option for years through a third-party solution. Get ready to be insulted. 😉 People who leave a community in anger (e.g. after moderator actions) will love the opportunity vent their anger one last time, blaming and insulting you. I can’t remember a single time a text-based option to give reasons to delete an account was actually useful. If anything, I would suggest a checkbox list with admin-defined options.

opentype got a reaction from Adlago in [Solution] Fix render blocking Google font issues (700ms savings to FCP)
Disagree. It’s a poor hack and therefore nothing we should want in a professional framework for thousands of websites. You trick the browser into thinking the fonts are not used for screen at all, then after the page is loaded, you say “April fools! Now switch to the webfont!”. It creates a terrible user experience because of the delayed and unreliable font change long after the page started rendering and the “local font first, use webfont later“ is already available as CSS declaration. It works in a much more reliable and optimized way because it was specifically designed for this use.
If loading webfonts is not acceptable in terms of the loading times, the solution is simple: don’t use webfonts, which Invision Community already supports. onLoad is not the right moment to activate webfonts.

If necessary, one can change the language string to clarify that this does not include posts.
I have it in my terms of service that personal data should never be included in posts and that account deletions will not delete posts. So users agree to that. If personal data ends up in individual posts, I deal with that on a case-by-case basis and delete the personal data or the entire post. But it makes little sense to delete possibly thousands of posts just because there is a chance that one of these posts could contain something personal.
