There was a free plugin called Preview Post Big Button doing this. Sadly it's gone.
That's how it looks like, a good inspiration for the ips dev team:

Somebody brought to my attention that there was no preview button. Blow me they were right!

I then came along to this forum and did a search on "preview button". There are lots of queries and clearly it's taken people lots of their time asking about it.

It turns out that there is a preview button – and when I went back to my own forum, I found that – yes – there is a preview button. It's actually very good one because you can check the appearance of your post in desktop view, tablet view and phone view. A very nice feature. Bravo.

The only problem is that the preview button is in a relatively obscure place – partly because it doesn't fit in with the worldwide Internet culture of preview button positioning. I think that this is shown by the very large number of comments related to the preview button on this forum.
I think that this shows that the preview button should be repositioned so that people will find it in the conventional place.

So here's the request – how about putting the preview button in a place where everybody can find it because that's where they expect it to be.

    Thanks

This is the one thing that is always concerning when buying apps and plugins. Disappearing developers. 👎

It would be awesome (and I know a mod could make it and I may just code it myself if necessary) if there was a 'statistics' widget for pages databases. Basically like other statistics widgets where if gives you the number of records (using the databases record lingo) number of comments and latest record.

Apologies if already suggested, I searched and could not find it specifically.
    Request:
Change all topic title links such that they include the getNewComment parameter. This is the default behavior while browsing from the main site index, but not while in a forum/sub forum.
    Justification:
When the Forum app had separate desktop and mobile themes, the mobile theme had this very functionality. Rather than requiring users to click the little dot/star alongside a thread, you could click the thread title to see the first unread reply.
I no longer run analytics, but even as of a few years ago, half of my users are on mobile devices. We manually edit themes to include getNewComment, but I would prefer to perform as little customization as possible.
If, for some reason, a user wants to return to the first page, the forum already includes a link to page 1 under the topic title.
I believe this would, technically, allow you to remove the dot/star, which cleans up the UI slightly.
It feels like a good quality of life improvement for mobile use, much like the recent new features added in 4.3.

Is it possible to hide votes and views up until certain date? Can you setup many competitions at once? Is it hardcoded to be monthly competition or date can be set?
Very interested in this app, I do have yearly photo competition that I currently do with the help of Pages and Forums, but having a dedicated app can be much smoother! However, I definitely prefer to not be able to view the number of votes before the competition ends. Even if author can be hidden it will be good. Basically, options to avoid subjective votes based on personal sympathy.

Okay, Considered, Will be added in the soonest release.
To remove the bottom bar, you can modify the plugin template by removing this part:
    <div id='elEventHeader_details' class='ipsClearfix ipsAreaBackground ipsPad'> <div class="ipsPhotoPanel ipsPhotoPanel_tiny ipsPhotoPanel_notPhone ipsClearfix"> {template="userPhoto" app="core" group="global" params="$event->author(), 'tiny'"} <div> <p class="ipsType_reset ipsType_normal ipsType_blendLinks"> {lang="event_created_by" htmlsprintf="$event->author()->link( $event->warningRef() )"} </p> <a href='{$event->container()->url()}' style='color: #fff' class='ipsPos_left ipsResponsive_noFloat cEvents_eventSmall cEvents_style{$event->container()->id}'>{lang="in"} {$event->container()->_title}</a> </div> </div> </div> From template: slidingUpcomingEvents

Ramsesx reacted to craigf136 in Tutorial for making a test install?
    How I did it.
download copy of config.php from live site login to cpanel and create a new database IPSV4b5 for example Assign existing user to the database create directory / subdomain for the test install (remember that this is the URL that will be used for all test installs Upload the files for IPB v4 copy public and upload folders for live site (don't move, download locally - you could also compress these two folders and move the compressed file and then extract that by using cpanel file manager) then upload them to the directory for the test install (I personally took it offline for maintenance for 5 minutes). You can do this part in one of 2 ways, take live forum offline or leave live (crude but effective) change the upload paths to the uploads paths for the test database you can also do this via phpmyadmin but I'm not 100 certain on what needs changed in the database but only do it once you have copied the database (see below) login to phpmyadmin, go to existing database, and then select operations,
Untick create database before copying and in the field above, enter the database information and then click go to copy the database to the test install database once it has copied, go to the config.php in the test install directory edit and enter the test database information (replacing the live database information). then go to www.domain.com/admin/upgrade and run the upgrader, it will ask you to convert to UTF8 if you haven't already done so. Follow the upgrade steps

Ramsesx reacted to Dean_ in Tutorial for making a test install?
    Hi Cheersn
I've done this myself and I'll explain the steps that I use but may not be correct or maybe long winded by other members but it works for me. (based on cpanel and phpmyadmin)
    1) I created a sub folder, copied all the files from my original folder and placed them in the new folder (So I have an exact copy).
    2) I then accessed my cPanel > PHPMyAdmin - went to my database name > selected 'Operations' and copied the database and gave it a new name (remember to make a new user in MySQL Databases and add it to the copied database).
    3) I then went to my FTP and edited the 'conf_global.php' to reflect the new details.
    4) Once that was working correctly and the forums loaded and tested, I then got the BETA5, downloaded and uploaded the files to my copied subfolder overwriting all the files. Once completed I ran the upgrade and followed the instructions.
    5) That should be it, rather quick and simple process and I haven't experienced any errors.

**As above this may not be the best or correct way, but It's just how I've done my duplicates
*** I take no responsibility for any errors that may occur

Ramsesx reacted to bfarber in Error 2S129/2 on validation
The error code means that the validation URL has already been clicked. This can happen, for instance, with some email providers such as Sparkpost (because they have begun following the links in emails which essentially executes the validation routine before the user ever even receives the email).

Ramsesx reacted to 13. in Header sticky
Here is an example (add it to custom.css file of your theme):
    /*** Attach Mobile Nav to Bottom ***/ #elMobileNav { position: fixed; bottom: 0; width: 100%; z-index: 5049; border-top: 1px solid #808080; } /* Increase body length in order to not overlap footer elements */ body.ipsApp_front { padding-bottom: 50px; } /* Prevent from overlapping by lang switcher */ ul#elNavLang_menu, ul#elNavTheme_menu { z-index: 5048 !important; } /* Prevent from overlapping by notification popups */ #elFlashMessage.ipsFlashMsg_bottom { bottom:50px; } #elFlashMessage.ipsFlashMsg_dismissable [data-action='dismissFlashMessage'] { right: 10px; } It may also require some additional cosmetic tuning for your theme.
It shouldn't be hard but i don't plan to implement this because in my experience this behaviour could be unobvious and annoying for inexperienced users.

Fixed docking is enough in my opinion.

I think it will be better to have the header bar (menu, notifications) in a sticky header.
Like that we don't have to scroll scroll scroll to the top to go to our notification or menu. Mobile need that more than desktop.

I'd rather suggest to dock it to the bottom of the screen on mobile, as many mobile apps does.
Here is an example how i implemented this on one of my websites a while ago.
This way you can access breadcrumb button, quick links and notifications right under your finger even while holding a big mobile with one hand.
