DawPi reacted to Dreadknux in Search Results Display: Group Connected CMS Records & Topics/Other Content
One of the things I like about Invision Community is the ability to create Pages/CMS records from content published in other areas of the site. In my case, I am exploring leveraging the engaged community on my forums to help populate news stories across my website. So in my situation, I tend to use the CMS 'Copy to Database' feature with Topics often.
However, this causes a little confusion with regards to discoverability and organised search, as content that has been linked/connected in this way are not listed as such in search results or activity feeds. This means that, if a lot of your site content relies on the marriage between CMS/Pages and Topics/other content, it can easily look like content is duplicated several times on the website. This can be (and is, for me) a frustrating browsing experience for users who might want to sweep Tagged content, only to find items that are listed as separate entries but are in fact linked items of the same content.
I would like to suggest an improvement in a future Invision Community version, that attempts to address this. It would be great to have a setting in ACP that ensures, if a topic (or other piece of content on the site) has been used to create a CMS record, the two pieces of content are grouped in search results.
I've made a mockup of how this could be designed. First, here's a snapshot of how it currently looks when I create a new CMS record (in this case, a news article) and have a topic automatically created upon publish. As you can see, there is a Pages content block for the CMS record (complete with thumbnail) at the top, and underneath it a separate Topic content block with exactly the same content.

And here is my mockup for a potential solution. Note that the topic entry is marked as a 'connected topic' as it was created from the CMS record.

You could also build in additional settings to further customise this - for example, I want to make sure that the CMS record/article is always shown first as the 'parent' result in groupings like this, but there could be a toggle to swap this around and ensure that, if any such groupings exist in search results, that it's the Topic that is shown as the top 'parent' result and the CMS record is instead nested underneath it.
It's not the most urgent QOL improvement, to be honest, but I think it would help make search and content discovery on Invision Communities a bit more sensible. 🙂

Welcome to this week's Invision Insight!
The Team have been hard at work finishing up the Gallery refresh, which is now available for testing (more on this later).
I am in the process of drafting up a new edition of community tips; publishing date yet to be confirmed. I do hope these are helpful not only to those communities that are starting out, but also to the larger and more established communities out there that are looking for ways to adapt and grow. If you haven't yet read the blog entry, I have linked to it below. If you have something you would like me to write about specifically or have subject matter you'd like me to talk about, then by all means let me know. I am always open to your suggestions. 🙂

    New Version
We have released a new beta version of Invision Community, 4.7.7 Beta 3, moving us one step closer to the stable February release.
As with all beta releases, upgrading your community is at your own risk. Please make sure you backup before pressing that button! There are also some changes affecting third party developers and designers to take note of.
Never tried out a beta before? We've got you covered. 😉
    Cloud
If you are a Cloud client, you would firstly enter your Client Area and click on Manage this purchase, scroll down the page and click on Yes, I would like to opt-in to beta releases.
Go to your AdminCP -> System -> Applications and click on Check for Updates, and the beta version will become available for you to upgrade in the normal way you would perform any other upgrade. Your community will show you all future betas while that line is in the constants.php file. You can opt out once you no longer wish to use beta versions in the same way.

    Self-hosted
If you are a self-hosted client, there are two ways to currently do this. One option is by using the automatic upgrader, the other is manually.
    Automatic Upgrader

    Backup your community.

Create a constants.php file if you haven't already done so (use the guide below for assistance).Add: <?php define( 'USE_DEVELOPMENT_BUILDS', TRUE ); Then go to your AdminCP -> System -> Applications and click Check for Updates, and the beta version will become available for your to upgrade in the normal way you would perform any other upgrade. Your community will show you all future betas while that line is in the constants.php file. You can opt out once you no longer wish to use beta versions by simply removing the above code from your constants.php file.
    Manual

    Backup your community.

Enter your Client Area and click on Manage this purchase, scroll down the page and click on Yes, I would like to opt-in to beta releases. Under the usual Download Invision Community button, there is a download x.x.x Beta x (pre-release) link. Download and upload those files and perform a manual upgrade from '/admin/upgrade' in your browser.

I cannot stress enough to PLEASE backup your community if you intend to run betas on a production community.

DawPi reacted to teraßyte in Tapatalk on IPS 4.7
Honestly that broken app is not worth the trouble nowadays, and their support being crap doesn't help either. It had a place before when the forum's theme was not responsive / good enough for mobile, but with the newer versions the situation has changed drastically.
Most of the sites I've updated in the last couple of years decided to drop it, especially after they started forcing forum owners to pay to upload the files to their own servers instead of tapatalk's cdn.

My opinion is that you shouldn't install it, no matter what your users say. Try mentioning instead that using Tapatalk makes them lose a lot of functionality compared to using the site in a normal browser. This is especially true if you have modifications installed on your forum, those will never work on Tapatalk.

Hm, I think I know. I've rechecked it and uploaded new version (pending approval) with a "fix" for that. You may "fix" that by running that query:
    CREATE TABLE `dp4custombadwords_settings` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `mid` int(10) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0', `dp42bypass_badwords` tinyint(3) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0' ); ALTER TABLE `dp4custombadwords_settings` ADD PRIMARY KEY (`id`), ADD UNIQUE KEY `mid` (`mid`);

Adding to the topic, a few more suggestions for the marketplace:
File submitters should be able to download their own files bypassing the marketplace ACP requirement. Display the “pending version” message to anyone and not only to file submitter Display the date the pending version was uploaded. Ability to mass change file prices (apply a % to increase/decrease prices to be used in Black Friday, for example). Add a list of pending versions in the My Paid Files page.

Hello, I would like to propose 2 things that I ran into recently and I think they can be solved.
Create a button, for templates/applications and plugins, where you can cancel sending a file to be checked. I was in the position where I uploaded the text file with the update, the images and I forgot because of fatigue to upload the xml as well theme with the update. You have to wait 1.2 ... x days to be rejected, then you have to upload it again and wait again 1.2 ... x days for approval. I know, every person should be careful not to be in this position, but there may be cases where you forget something and it would be more useful both for you and for us. Add again the possibility at least for the authors of the applications/plugins or templates to be able to download their older versions. I am in the position where I have a problem with a bug that I can't figure out and I don't have an older version available so I can compare them and see where I went wrong, or if it's something else. In version 4.4 this was possible and you could download any version you uploaded, otherwise I no longer see the download button as useful when you hit see changelog , because it directs you to the marketplace.
