I'm trying to speed up my site, and yet keep it somewhat secure. The site is 100% SSL/HTTPS with a legit certificate... I've tried using Nginx, Pagespeed, Caches (such as Varnish, APC) a few years ago and go absoultely no where with them (As they slowed down my site, not sped it up). So over the last months I've been trying other methods, optimising as many images (With kraken.io) as possible and managed to reduce my home page from 8.99MB to a sweet 1-2MB, and I enabled HTTP-Keep Alive which has seen some positive results. I even started trying to minifying ips.js (And other .js files), and it's so far working but I have no idea if that's just a cache somewhere or if I'm…

I submitted a ticket to IPS about this and was referred to it being a server configuration issue which it very well could be. We had this issue on our old server and it was getting to be time to get a new one anyway so I wrote it off as being slow hard drives affecting mysql performance. Now we are on a new dedicated box with ssd drives. We do have cpanel currently and apache 2.4, php as a dso module with mod_ruid2 and mysql 5.6. The site itself is fast, replying to a thread is pretty quick as well. However when submitting a new thread it takes over 15 seconds for it to go through. If you submit a new thread and while it is waiting to load the new page if you click on…

No problem before I upgraded mysql from 5.1 to 5.5 on my forum, but after I upgrade I've more than 500ms and slow queries. For Example this simple query: UPDATE ibf_nexus_ads SET ad_clicks=? WHERE ad_id=? sometimes take more of 3.000ms... I now switch to MariaDB and convert some tables to innoDB and it's better of Mysql55 but not fast as Mysql51. I try also to take another server and replicate the same settings and it's slow too. I'm going crazy... any help?

Hey Guys, I have a tough one, and I'm not sure if this is the right forum. I am currently developing a new site for our community and am having a custom skin made off of the new layout. Obviously my goal is to have the site and forums run together as if they are the same 'app' so to speak. I am wanting to integrate the login so that when the users are logged into the forum, they show as logged into the website. Catch is that there is no real website user database. It is an information based website and the only databases it uses are for caching purposes. I pretty much want to use the ipsconnect cookie along with another cookie to tell the software that the use…

Hello! I wanted to move my forum to a new faster server but I'm having a lot of issues and one of the biggest one is that my server doesn't want to read the php files of IPB or general php files. This happened after I upgraded PHP to 5.4 and apache to 2.4. I have done some Googling and I couldn't resolve my issue so I turned to the IPS community seeking for help. Can anyone help me set up the server & optimise it? I might throw in some $$ also. Thanks! :)

The open-source Wget application which is most widely used on Linux and Unix systems for retrieving files from the web has found vulnerable to a critical flaw. GNU Wget is a command-line utility designed to retrieve files from the Web using HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP, the most widely used Internet protocols. Wget can be easily installed on any Unix-like system and has been ported to many environments, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, OpenVMS, MorphOS and AmigaOS. When a recursive directory fetch over FTP server as the target, it would let an attacker "create arbitrary files, directories or symbolic links" due to a symlink flaw. IMPACT OF SYMLINK ATTACK "It was fo…

How important is it to have a good rating on this? What can cause a bad rating? Any ideas how to improve? I use a LEMP stack with ZendOP, I use digital ocean as the host.

Well, I'm not one to often make ecstatic titles, but I'm having difficulty containing my joy right now. I used to be a proponent of APC. Until tonight. Zend Optimizer is kind of new, wasn't really in my top consideration. Afterall, APC & xcache have been around for quite some time and fairly stable. I know people have stories of how terrible apc or xcache has been to them, but it's rare and didn't pay too much attention. It is what most people recommend and I quite frankly didn't see a reason to recommend anything other either. (Though with coming 5.5, we have little options) But I'm trying zend optimizer right now... and boy... it's different. My overwhelming…

I don't have much information on it but I figured I'd warn people incase they didn't get the message, as I couldn't find it posted on here, and I figured people might like to know about it. If you use SSL you might want to check if you're vulnerable to the bug "POODLE" which affects those that have SSLv3 enabled (https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/index.html) Information on POODLE: https://community.centminmod.com/threads/poodle-attacks-on-sslv3-vulnerability.1651/(And you can Google it)

Hello, Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. I have a RPG that is coming up on a year and I always said if it made it to a year I would ditch free hosting and go selfhosted. I currently host with Icyboards.net (Mybb) and I was wondering if there is a way to import all of my users/threads into IPB? As painless as possible please. Thank you!

My forum has been on the tail end of its shared hosting package for some-time and I’m not really satisfied with my current host. Since IPS4 will be release in the near future I think it’s a good opportunity to move everything up so I can grow the forum in next year. I have a VPS package at the moment, which I think should cover my needs: 1GB Ram (+512mb vSwap) - 2 Cores (97k posts, 4k members, 40 users online average). Currently the OS is Ubuntu 14.04 and I have an IPS4 test site up and running to make sure I could get it working. However I haven’t run anything on a VPS before so I’m looking for insight and good practices for security, optimization and packages I shou…
