    I suppose we can agree to disagree? @Chippy365 has a use case for this and so may others, I'm sure. I know that this feature has gone away after converting from a competitor's product and that the membership on my community would like it back. At least with Xenforo, there's two modifications that are available for this behavior:
    Show ban information on postbit: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/ozzmodz-show-banned.7701/ Show list of banned members: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/andrew-banned-users-list.7572/ With other platforms, the functionality is built in (vBulletin).
    I love the workaround for moving usergroups, yet that's not practical when there's a need for cool off periods through the warning system, and where moderators may be limited to not have the ability to adjust usergroups. I don't believe there's a permission to only allow a moderator to move into a banned usergroup and no others. I suppose if there were a way to do group promotions that used warning data as a trigger, then yes. And maybe this is as simple as a template change or similar. Not sure.
    There are plenty of features that IPS has that my particular community doesn't have a need for and that I have turned off or don't use, and there will always be edge cases that are impractical for all but a few. As we talk about features and ideas that fellow administrators share, I find it interesting to hear more from those that have a perceived need to determine if it's something that would benefit the greater community of IPS license holders over those that wouldn't take advantage of a newly introduced option.

    I agree that this is ideal in some communities, yet there are others where it is not. I would propose that any change be configurable, yet there is a clear need in some communities to be more transparent about who and what is restricted.

    I agree in part. With the plugin I asked Adriano to develop, the intent was not to share any information about what the outcome of the report was (especially if it led to suspending another user), but to provide an ability to easily thank or communicate gratitude to the reporter. The vast majority of my reports aren’t related to specific user infractions - usually it’s reporting spam, mistakes, double posts, etc. I liked the idea of trying to generate more faith in the reporting system but not making it such a black hole. I will say 90+% of the use I get from it is sending a default thanks message for reporting spam. Just a nice touch that lets people know their report mattered and improved the community. It’s a bit of a feedback loop too - the more people feel like the reporting system actually matters, the more they use it, and the better my community is. Everyone wins!
    I will say too that this is similar to what Facebook and Twitter do. If you report a tweet, you eventually get confirmation when an action is made. This is helpful to know whether there is any value in using reporting tools or not.

    Actually this is a good point. We often have users who for whatever reason, want their account suspending so they can focus on something else - a couple of decades ago it used to be members at university wanting to focus on exams, what we have now is usually members going on holiday who don't want to be able to access the forum while on holiday with their family 😂
    It doesn't necessarily need to be a "banned" badge, just a badge to say they are unable to reply for a longer period than would be normal. Being able to customise the badges and when they are applied would be really useful and would have a larger use case than the ones that we would use it for.

    Thanks. Having some capabilities on the front-end would make it more consistent with the rest of the software.

    Here's more information on Stripe's decline codes and how to interpret them:

    do_not_honor
    The card has been declined for an unknown reason. The customer needs to contact their card issuer for more information. Typically, this would be for fraud alerts or insufficient funds for banks that don't report that information back to the processor.

    If you see that the member is banned in the admin CP (red notice when you look at the user), then you know the ban status was successfully converted from MyBB and you can safely move them into the members group. They will retain the banned status, regardless of usergroup.

    CoffeeCake reacted to Pavel Chernitsky in How about a built-in duplicate user detector?
    Banning, blocking and moderating problematic users is all well and good, but if the user decides to open a new account and the site's admins can't detect it as a duplicate, all those tools are pretty useless.
    I saw that through the years there have been a few plugins developed by the community, but I think that this should be a built-in integral functionality of the suite. Also the plugins are currently not available for purchase so I'm salty 😄
    What do you guys think? Should we have a built-in tool to help us find and intercept trolls and toxic users? Especially given how fairly simple is should be to implement (makes a cookie and then checks for it).

    Hi there,
    I wonder if it would be possible to add a little shield or indication for when a user is banned? We've found recently that users can't see if a user is temporarily suspended and I feel it would be a very useful feature to have within the software

    @Makoto
    @newbie LAC and me found out a bug with this app.
    When this app is enabled, usergroup promotion rules stop working.
    The bug is here:
    [indisposable_MemberFilter] => Array ( [indisposable_mf_filter] => any ) /applications/indisposable/extensions/core/MemberFilter/MemberFilter.php
    public function matches( \IPS\Member $member, $filters, $object=NULL ) { if ( !empty( $filters['indisposable_mf_filter'] ) and ( $filters['indisposable_mf_filter'] === 'active' ) ) { return $member->isDisposable(); } if ( !empty( $filters['indisposable_mf_filter'] ) and ( $filters['indisposable_mf_filter'] === 'inactive' ) ) { return !$member->isDisposable(); } return FALSE; } $filters['indisposable_mf_filter'] is any
    So the method return FALSE and the rule won't be triggered.
    I had to disable your app for now so usergroup promotion works again.

    I will share that this has come up at well, in our predominantly mobile, high traffic, website. Unfortunately hover events aren't supported on mobile.
    I'd like to give members the option to toggle between relative and actual time.
    And I'm a bit sad to see the misogynistic comments.

    CoffeeCake got a reaction from SJ77 in Leader Board helpful or toxic for a community?
    I think the leaderboard feature is good for content that is largely objective (answers to homework questions, how to, technical discussion, support), and is dangerous for content that is largely subjective (opinions, politics, art, personal preferences).
    It would be great to tabulate this data but have the option to only make it visible to administrators or by usergroup. I don't think that's how it works now.

    CoffeeCake reacted to Chippy365 in X hours ago vs. today/yesterday
    We've also had a number of requests for it from users in our community. I could have sworn it was once a feature.
    It's a community that has moved from PHPBB to IPB, for what it's worth. While I can mention the hover-over option, it's not possible on mobile as far as I know so I think giving admins the option is better. Alternatively, allow it to be an option that can be configured in the UserCP, as it is ultimately a personal preference.

    I seriously do not see the objection or unwillingness to entertain this slight change?
    Honestly, you would think we were asking you to re-invite the wheel using mathematics which hasn't been invented yet and colouring it a nice shade of pink in the process.

    Our users complain about relative dates again and again. The main issue they have: they do not want to calculate how many hours ago is yesterday. They would like to differ between posts made today and yesterday. So they need clean statement today, 11:23 or yesterday, 23:43. At the moment if they see something like 19 hours ago they must work out if today is already longer as 19 hours then the post is from today. Otherwise from yesterday. A lot of our users wish to see what content has been published "TODAY".
    Can you please consider to change the logic of f_hours and f_hours_short to figure out whether the post has been made today or yesterday and print out the words instead of X hours ago?

    We said it many times.
    We do care about Android. Apple is insignificant on the global mobile market in terms of devices number. There are a lot of IPS customers who have more than 90% of mobile users with Android. Why should they suffer and even care about crazy Apple's politics, while these incredibly useful features work great on Android and could benefit your customers and most of their users today?

    Wasting years to create separate apps from scratch instead of a couple of weeks to create PWA based on code which was developed and improved for years and almost ready for it... Does not sound "sensible".
    I understand, you hope what native app could become another source of $ when it's done, and (unfortunately) this looks like the only real reason why you don't want implement PWA. Because the argument about Apple does not look significant at all, given their real share of users.

    I hope you re-evaluate the amount of time it takes to develop PWA vs native applications and will finally make the right choice.

    I did something like that about 10 years ago, but I put a password on the forum and made the password public (in the description of the particular forum). By entering the password, the member was agreeing to the rules. That was a bit of a clunky way of doing it, but it worked.

    CoffeeCake reacted to AtariAge in Ability to moderate on search results
    Greetings,
    We sometimes need to create a new forum on our site and then move relevant discussion forums into this new forum.  For instance, I just created a new Dreamcast forum on AtariAge, and there are thousands of existing topics that need to be moved into this forum.  Unfortunately, there seems to be no easy way to do this.  On Invision 3.4.x, there was a checkbox that you could use to select multiple topics and then moderate on those topics.  For instance, move all those topics into another forum.  That was extraordinarily useful, and it boggles the mind why this hasn't been carried over into 4.x.
    If there's another way to do this, I would love to know.  Otherwise it's going to be an incredibly tedious slog to try and move these topics, and the lack of this functionality makes it much harder to organize existing forums and create new ones.
    Thanks,
     ..Al

    If you're wanting to ban the web server itself (presumably apache in your case), you can ban IP ranges by providing a partial IP address or by using CIDR notation. See: https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/howto/access.html

    So when you submit something to downloads you can’t rate (or last I checked) your own file. This should be either an option or the same for pages, forums etc. I think it’s silly to have an article rated by the person that made it. Unfortunately save for hiding or deleting it I can’t prevent it.
