I've been wondering for a few hours whether to leave an opinion or not ...
I can accept new prices - it is clear that you have an argument for this.
    But!?!
Even 4.6.6 does not offer a performance boost, especially for mobile.
Too many sites that allow Google ads - Web Vitals have desperately bad results - I don't see anything in this direction in your work, developers.
And what should owners of these sites do? Google lowers their revenue, you increase their license!
Apart from your own budget, don't you have an interest in performance improvements for your clients?
You have good enough developers and you can easily solve all the requirements for Web Vitals. Why don't you do it?
I wonder if I'm wondering, but your new site is also performing poorly

Your FCP and LCP results for the last few hours are deteriorating.
You have also allowed duplication ID of "elSigninButton_mobile".
    https://validator.w3.org/nu/?doc=https%3A%2F%2Finvisioncommunity.com%2Fforums
In short - nothing new, but more expensive.

    1. You chose to update your website and the price that your existing customers pay before emailing them. It's not really about what is posted on here. And you make it sound like emailing 'thousands' of clients is a difficult or time consuming process. Which of course it isn't, beyond writing the email, which could have been done weeks ago, unless you made the prices up on the spot this morning.
    2. You're probably going to have to drop the 'barely any clients use this forum' line to justify the lack of reasonable communication on offer, now you're only offering support through it to the majority of your clients.
I'm broadly supportive of the price rise, but can you not just admit that the way it's been communicated has been poor and stop spinning it. It would be so much easier to believe the 'we want to be transparent' pr type guff then.

    In 2017 I paid 550$ for this:

Now it's increased near 50%, the renewal went from 190$ to 280$ / year.
For me, the price increase is still bearable, as long as my income from the forum does not drop significantly. But for hobby communities, such prices are probably harder to bear. By the way, these hobbyists are free advertising media for Invision, as they promote their product. Ultimately, new forum operators orientate themselves on the platforms in which they themselves are active. If they disappear from the market, this advertising also disappears. Another very important aspect is the existing add-ons of a forum platform provider, these are and always have been a driving force for a successful community, see vBulletin. Some developers have already spoken out about the price increases. If this price increase causes them to turn away from Invision, this will also lead to lower licence sales in the long term. So this new development could lead to a downward spiral.
I don't understand why developers as important as openfont and Adriano have to pay licence fees at all, because without them Invision would certainly not be where it is now. Without developers, without high quality addons, no customers, to put it bluntly. Just because of a few hundred dollars more revenue you risk losing everything you have built up over the years. This is not a wise decision because the developers are the be-all and end-all of any successful forum platform.

I knew the prices would rise with this site relaunch, but I expected more a generous correction for inflation for new orders (not renewals). But the changes are far from slight. And for people like me who have many licenses, it actually threatens my entire business, because the price change is multiplied by the number of licenses. And the new terms make it all even worse. For my oldest license, I had an upcoming renewal of $85 as the last payment in this financial year. Now that jumped to $310—well over 300%! Yes, it’s for 12 months, but I still need to pay it NOW without having earned this money through the site or even planned for it. And even if would manage with this one site, I certainly can’t manage it for 5 self-hosted licenses and their upcoming renewals.
And it didn’t had to be this way. There is the established system of grandfathering existing prices while only charging more for new customers for example. Or it could be a slow transition that is announced a year or two in advance, so we could have prepared for it someone. Dropping these drastic price and terms changes on us like a bomb, effective and possibly charged immediately, was a bad move.

MariaDB was forked from MySQL by the original creator to create MariaDB and the MariaDB Foundation. Many of the original MySQL developers moved to the fork, and most major linux distributions include MariaDB. It was created directly following concerns when Sun Microsystems, who owned the project, was being bought by Oracle and, Oracle had longstanding reputations surrounding licensing and their approach to open source projects.
Here's a presentation from the founder of MySQL that goes into the rationale:

No Oracle nonsense with MariaDB. Otherwise, functionally equivalent, drop in replacement for our purposes.

Seems useful for any implementation of an activity stream. Create opportunities to engage with the content where ever it is visible. Excellent call out. At the very least, put a reply button, yet opening an editor right on the stream would be ideal that then took you to the new reply at wherever the context was (i.e. your reply's position in the thread).
Not only when fixes go live, but what issues exist. We need to know:
That IPS is aware of an issue that happens in <x> circumstances That an administrator can take <y> action to workaround the issue until a fix is in place (disable a thing, not use a thing, configure a thing a certain way, etc.) That the issue is being addressed by the IPS team That a resolution to the issue is expected/will be available/is now available with <z> release/patch As an example, we are testing an upgrade to PHP8. You announced that something involving PHP8 has been resolved, which then informed me of items 1, 2 (don't use PHP8 yet), and 3. I don't know 4.
Being able to go to a "status page" of known issues (i.e. bug tracker, but not like the bug tracker that gets turned on in beta releases), and see what known issues exist, if there are any workarounds, and when a fix might be put in place (think knowledge base), would help drive self-service engagement with support issues and help people like me know what issues are already known and when to expect a resolution (or how I can work around it).

Yes, IPS uses your locale on your server. You'll want to adjust it to something representative of your country. See:
As an example on how you'd adjust the configured locales on Debian, see: https://wiki.debian.org/Locale

    @EricT,
No worries. The prune link appears after you perform a search. The search is hidden in the little gear icon to the right of where you typed the word "prune" in your screenshot. It's not very inuitive and it's understandable to be confused. I don't think it's a language barrier. Typically a gear doesn't mean "open search panel."
Once you click on the gear, you'll see a popup with all sorts of options. Keep everything just as it is (blank), and press the search button. Now click on the "Spammers" link to filter only Spammers.
Now for some mysterious reason only known to @Mark (he was young, coerced probably), you'll see a series of links on what you can do with the search results. One of them will be "Prune Members Found"
Things like this drive people insane. They're coming from a place of love, but have PTSD from so much exposure to idiosyncracies like this that they forget what it's like the first time to be exposed to the radiation.

CoffeeCake reacted to Colonel_mortis in My initial impressions of achievements
I've not really played around with achievements yet, but I think that's all the more reason to give this feedback now.
My initial impression as a user on this site is that it's not obvious:
What points are How I get points, and how many points things are worth How many points I have How the ranks compare (beyond just that each one is higher than the previous) (ie how many points each rank is worth) What I can do to unlock new badges (there's an argument that some badges should be secret, but certainly most should not) These are the sorts of things that experienced members will figure out within a couple of weeks, and maybe all that information is available for users somewhere that I'm not immediately seeing. However, the fact that I'm not immediately seeing it is the problem. For achievements to really work they need to be walk-up usable - a new member needs to be incentivized to ask questions, to post good answers, and to come back to the site next week, and right now, it doesn't do that.
On the user menu, it highlights my rank and progress, which is great, but I want to click it and see more details. It feels weirdly non-interactive, and leaves me wanting more info.
For a good case study, take a look at Stack Overflow. I can look at all the badges, and see my progress towards them. I also see a graph of my rep (which on SO is less valuable because rep is compounding as people find your old questions, but on forums would be a more active incentive to keep increasing it).
Building on the SO example, wouldn't it be neat if achievement ranks could be configured to actually benefit you? Even the group promotion rules are conspicuously missing the ability to promote by rank. I want to set some rules like "level 1 can only use forums, level 2 can use blogs and status updates, level 3 can post news, level 4 can use classifieds, level 5 gets more messenger storage, etc", which I think would be a great way to incentivise engagement and give users a goal to work towards that is more than just a slightly different coloured icon on their profile picture.
Also, and this is borderline a bug, the default badge descriptions are inconsistent - some don't have descriptions, some have passive descriptions ("a week since joining"), some have present tense descriptions ("making your first post"), and some have past tense descriptions ("visited daily for a week"). There's also no way to edit them (which I will report as a bug).
Another thing - wouldn't it be nice if getting a badge could give you points? As far as I can see, that's not a thing at the moment.

It's your community, and you know it best, yet I'd suggest this is a slippery slope and offers a false sense of security. How do you know that another trusted long term member won't get into a situation with another member, necessitating you to intervene between those two? Or, that this person's ISP will randomly allocate them a new address? Or that this person has a new address every few weeks through no action of their own? Perhaps the IP space they are connected from blocks a large segment of others interested in your community. I would argue that IP blocks are antiquated and should not be used via IPS software, yet in CIC, it may be your only tool available. This type of blocking should be happening at the firewall.
Making spaces for more closed-knit interaction and giving members tools that empower them to be responsible for their online safety are far better directions to head. Consider using forums that are only available to long-term members, or clubs that members can decide who gets in and who does not. Give members the ability to change their display names. Link to resources that help users understand their role in being safe online.
