I am using it, I vaguely remember some small initial setup issues, but that was long time ago and it wasn't a big problem anyway. Since the initial setup I haven't touched it, it just works.

Here are my settings. SMTP host is the mail server, which is dependent on the chosen region.

Is it possible to hide votes and views up until certain date? Can you setup many competitions at once? Is it hardcoded to be monthly competition or date can be set?
Very interested in this app, I do have yearly photo competition that I currently do with the help of Pages and Forums, but having a dedicated app can be much smoother! However, I definitely prefer to not be able to view the number of votes before the competition ends. Even if author can be hidden it will be good. Basically, options to avoid subjective votes based on personal sympathy.

These aren't currently features. Yes it's hardcoded to monthly though I plan on adding yearly from the previous months entries. I do not plan on adding support for multiple competitions to run concurrently. I like your suggestion for not making votes and views public and for hiding the author. Perhaps this could be simplified into a single setting to avoid subjectivity like you say. From personal experience knowing the vote count seems to foster competition and increased sharing on social media but I can see some communities would benefit. I'll add it to the suggestions list.

Just bought it to support the active development as it is area that is lacking in the core and the other app development is dead. I haven't tried it yet though, but is it possible to add prefixes from the topic view itself? Right now it is very annoying to go in edit mode and add the prefix from there, I have to admit I am too lazy to do it sometimes...
I will test in the next few days and probably write more suggestions, if they are welcome :)

jair101 reacted to Meddysong in Language strings: differentiating 2nd and 3rd person
I love the pluralization feature in IPS. It's easy to work with and does the job very well.
There is one area that it doesn't currently capture owing to the fact that English doesn't make a visible distinction for whether a person is part of a group or not outside of the pronouns. If pronouns aren't used because the names themselves are presented, then English is easy and the system works. This isn't the case for other languages, however.
    Visualising with pronouns
Consider reactions and what they would look like if pronouns rather than usernames were used. The language string react_blurb is currently %s {!# [?:reacted]} to this. If the only person who reacted is the user, they would expect to see the message You reacted to this. Which pronoun would be used if the user and somebody else had reacted? In English, it's still you because we don't formally differentiate the second person singular and second person plural: You are a very naughty boy and You are very naughty children use the same pronoun. That's not usually the case in other languages,
Now remove the user from the equation altogether. If only one person reacted and this person isn't the user, we would expect to see a third person singular pronoun: he, she, it. (Ignore the fact that it isn't currently programatically solvable about which one to use, since in practice we're not using pronouns.) What if more than one person reacted, other than the user? We need to jump to third person plural: they: They reacted to this.
Changing forms depending on whether the user is included
The problem is that the current set-up doesn't allow for these distinctions. In English, they don't matter: I reacted, you (singular) reacted, he reacted, she reacted, it reacted, we reacted, you (plural) reacted, they reacted. The string %s can take any form ("You and 1 other", "One person", "You and several others", "Several people but not you") and we can capture that. In other languages we can adjust our language strings for singular or plural but not for inclusivity, the question of whether the user is included in the statement.
This is important because the form changes depending on the circumstance. The verb with the second person singular is not the same as with the plural and so on. Here's how it looks in Italian:
Second person singular (only the user has reacted): Tu hai reagito qui Second person plural (the user plus at least one other person have reacted): Voi avete reagito qui (or, as it could appear, Tu, Meddysong, Ilya Hoilik, opentype e 3 altri avete reagito qui) Third person singular (only one person, not the user): Lui ha reagito qui Third person plural (several people, not the user): Loro hanno reagito qui (Meddysong, Ilya Hoilik, opentype e 3 altri hanno reagito qui) It might be easier to visualise if we switch the English from reacted to have reacted:
If the user is the only person or there are several people, irrespective of whether the user is one of them: %s have reacted If there is only one person but this isn't the user: %s has reacted We can get away with working around this problem in English by using the simple past form. (We perhaps shouldn't in this instance but complaining would be nitpicking!) In other languages, however, we don't have this option. It's not just a question of capturing number but also inclusivity.
I don't know how you'd go about resolving this but I'm not one of the devs -- I bet you've solved trickier conundrums than this one 🙂

Commerce is the only currently available way to process payments. So if you anticipate a lot of people willing to pay for upgrade, I guess the cost is justified. If there are not that many people, maybe you can ask them to pay manually and then you upgrade them with the help of this app:

jair101 got a reaction from levsha in Pages in Clubs?
As much as you would like to start yet another boring discussion about holes in other peoples logic (I have noticed how much you enjoy those), your assumption in fact is not correct.
My comment was sarcastic on purpose, to me the answer is obvious - asking why you might need Pages in a Club is like asking why you need Pages at all. Clubs is community within a community, why it should not have access to all features available for the main branch and why the use cases within a club should be different then the use cases for all other apps that have clubs features? If it is difficult to develop, so be it, I can accept that. But I can't believe it is possible that IPS did not include Pages features in Clubs simply because they thought it is not useful. Hence the "surprise" in my comment.
If I wanted to be a straight shooter, I would say instead: "Matt, the use cases for clubs usage are exactly the same as for main community usage and for all other apps that already have clubs features. You want to isolate particular database in a club, the same way you prefer to isolate particular gallery or discussion topics". Instead, I decided to be funny with a short sarcastic one liner. Shoot me. At least I didn't use a gif.

Nope, this is not a widget. It’s a block that shows up in board index only, before or after forums categories.
Also do not appear in Fluid view because it won’t make sense.

It wasn't doing that but now it is. I just added it. The only "weird" thing is the ignored forum view:

No topic will show up as I removed them from the items with permission to view. Topics will appear if the user stop ignoring this forum by clicking in the black button or via Account Settings.
The yellow topics are from other forums.

Great that someone is taking over the app, I do hope that at least compatibility with upcoming versions will be guaranteed. I don't mind adding renewal costs to the app either.
Still, I was hoping that Kevin can put some love towards his other apps, now it seems he will be even more busy...

jair101 got a reaction from Misi in This file is not currently available for purchase
I understand that full detailed reasons for this message to appear on a given marketplace listing does not necessary belong in public. But I still think that the clients that bought this resource deserve a bit more information.
    - Is it because the author is inactive?
    - Is it marked as such until a critical bug is fixed?
    - Is it because the application introduces security vulnerabilties (both intentional and unintentional)?
    - Why even though the listing is not available for purchase, the renewal fees are still active?
Some of these mods cost triple digits and I think users deserve at least a basic explanation why they are removed. At the very least so we know whether this is permanent or temporary and to decide whether to keep relying on this mod in our communities.

jair101 got a reaction from SammyS in (NB43) Filter By Tags
    Two suggestions:
    1. Would be great if you can limit by number of usage? There are often used tags, there are less often used tags, some are even misspelled. I think it will be great if we can filter, for example, by tags used more then X amount of times. Or alternatively, sort by usage - the most often used tags in the front. I know that closed tag system can provide these inbuilt, but some flexibility would not hurt.
    2. A bit off-topic, but have you considered creating one combined full featured tag/prefix management app? :) I know that you have other tag enhancements and now that Advanced Tags and Prefixes is abandonware, maybe it is something worth considering.

There's no set path to success, especially in today's Internet with more online communities competing for eyeballs and clicks. With that said, here are some starting pointers:
Content is King -- Google won't send you traffic if you don't have compelling content.  You need to develop EAT (expertise - authority - trust) in a certain subject matter.  You don't have to be THE expert, you just need to be a reputable source of information.   Starting Group -- It's extremely hard to start a community by only yourself, unless your content is spectacular.  It helps if you have a small but dedicated group of friends and followers who can participate in the beginning.  Write Emotive Topics -- Write topics that are intentionally provocative to get the discussion going.   Simplify simplify simplify -- Make your website as simple as possible to navigate, browse, and interact.  Check mobile and desktop.  Worry about your brand / name / image last.  That's all superficial design stuff.  Focus on your content and users first.
