There needs to be some consideration given to different applications.  You don't want to allow zip or exe in regular posting, but you may want to allow zip in Downloads.
By the way, I have the same broad issue.  I've seen a member, in their helpfulness, send the Mozilla installer packager executable to another member who - bless their heart - actually downloaded and installed an executable file from a random person on the internet.

    Hi Good Morning
    IPB Community & Team
Right Now if user want to create standalone poll (Use Topic Title as Poll Title without separate Topic Title  ) it create duplicate content as Follows

Because poll can't be created without filling out "Poll Title" and "Question Title" Fields

It would be great if user able to create polls without filling out "Poll Title" and "Question Title" Fields Then Polls could be shown as follows which will improve polls UI/UX

I Hope IPB Team will includes this improvement in upcoming IPB 5

    Thanks

    In core->front->clubs->view:
{{if isset( $fieldValues[ "field_" . $field->id ] )}} does show the field caption even if its value is empty. If the check would be:
{{if !empty( $fieldValues[ "field_" . $field->id ] )}} then it would not show the fields on the club page if they are not filled.

    A quick update here:
I managed to do what I needed using Zapier and my email list provider. Still, again, I would love to be able to do it inside Invision because, in my opinion, drip campaigns are great for (re)engagement and is a feature quite easy to code because most of the functions are there.
By the way had an issue with configuring the Nginx rewrite rules so Zapier can access the API, as it forced me to dwd a htaccess file, which we know is useless on Nginx, but that's a story for some other time 🙂

Joel R got a reaction from Como in Marketplace: The Next Steps
I'd like to extend a public invitation to all IPS clients and the third-party community to celebrate the opening of the free listing of files on the Marketplace Directory of Invisioneer.org.
    https://www.invisioneer.org/marketplace/
What is the Marketplace Directory on Invisioneer.org?
The Marketplace Directory is a free list of files by authors. Its goal is simple: a free, centralized list for you to browse third-party files.
No files are sold or supported on the site itself. You will be redirected to the author's site for payment and support.
You will find the Marketplace Directory to be immediately familiar:
Same categories and structure as the IPS Marketplace Same IP.Downloads app as the IPS Marketplace  Over 300+ files have already been listed in the Marketplace Directory, and we hope more will be listed as developers and themers update their files.
    Why visit Marketplace Directory?
The Marketplace Directory will never be a perfect substitute for the IPS Marketplace, which had deep integration with the ACP and directly processed payments on behalf of clients.
However, as soon as it became known that IPS was shutting down its Marketplace, it became clear that clients would confusingly need to go to multiple websites. Purchased 5 plugins from 5 different developers? You need to visit 5 different sites for support and payment.
The Marketplace Directory doesn't totally solve the problem, but it's a step in the right direction.  It consolidates files by authors who wish to list together, and makes file discovery and author tracking so much easier.  There is power in collaboration, and the Marketplace Directory is a great example of the most trusted third-party developers coming together in the spirit of community.
    What is Invisioneer.org?
Invisioneer.org is a broader project of mine to offer a suite of resources to help IPS owners and admins launch better communities - and to hopefully learn alongside you.  It's my goal to build an "ecosystem of success" around IPS owners and admins as we compete and thrive together on the modern web:
IPS helps you compete with community software Third-party developers help you compete with themes and extensions Invisioneer.org helps you compete with community strategy My goal behind Invisioneer.org is to help you compete - and win - with the "soft skills" of community management that are just as important as the technology: crafting a community strategy, leading with emotional intelligence, and leveraging best practices from disciplines like behavioral economics, psychology, sociology, and leading community consultancies.
The Marketplace Directory is an important part of Invisioneer.org, and one component of the ecosystem of success for IPS clients to leverage.
What do I do with my files?
Purchases and renewals have stopped on the IPS Marketplace, and the Marketplace itself will shut down on October 30 2023 according to IPS.
To continue receiving support and updates to your active Marketplace files, you will need to transfer your purchases' license keys directly to the author. To find the license keys for all purchases, go to My Purchases.
Active authors have posted information on their file descriptions or in the support topic about their own support sites.  If you purchased a file from a developer who doesn't have information yet, you will need to reach out to that author.

Some questions and / or observations:
    - the Sidebar Menu offers a lot of links.  The (regular) browse menu on mobile offers much less links.  I'm guessing you have an option per link on whether to show on mobile?
    - Bottom mobile menu is nice.  This is a well established design theory by Luke Wrobleski from Google product design, but I actually thought many mobile apps were moving away from the bottom menu because it overlaps with some built in browser or phone options.  Thoughts? I don't think there's one right answer, just more interested in your perspective.

    - traditional view of menu only offers single row.  I already do this on my primary community today (not because of any special study on design theory, but for simplicity!) but would be interested in your perspective in why you're imposing this approach.  The current Menu structure already encapsulates this and more. Why change it?
    - performance improvements.  You removed JavaScript and a lot of CSS.  But then we also need splashy grid pictures of our latest trip to Australia and croc suit for the new Forum Feed / Big Grid view!

Custom fields for every content type.  I don't know why IPS gave us custom fields for Downloads and Page Databases, but not for other content types. I can see real value in adding custom fields to Forum Boards, especially if you have certain boards that are highly-organized that can be filterable, searchable, indexable, etc.

In Pages, each custom field has it's own permissions. You'll need to configure these for the title and content field (and any others) to enable guests to see them on the new record form.

Great post @Joel R and you've confirmed everything we were thinking / planning - much appreciated 🙏
Agreed and at this stage, our plan is to change all those OPEN clubs to PRIVATE and our Dev team is scoping up an Auto-Approve process, likely using MariaDB triggers with some filtering in place so members can immediately join the club without having to wait for approval.
Yes, we definitely won't be doing that - the dev team tested on Friday changing a club from OPEN to PRIVATE and confirmed that this option stays as "Club members can view and participate" so we're all good there 🙃
    Thanks for the warning.

Thanks and yup, we've already got this turned ON so that all the Clubs a member has joined show up down the bottom of their main forum page. It's a great feature 🙂
GREAT IDEA - we'll do that ASAP as soon as we change all the Club types. Thanks for the suggestion!
Another great idea, we'll have a think about best categories, but even something simple for now as a TYPE one that includes "Vendor User Group" and "Accountability Group" will be a great option to add.

We could go deeper into sub-industry classifications as we grow the number of User Groups.

    Thanks again for the suggestion!
We actually also have about 300 x PRIVATE Clubs that are used for small accountability groups (we have matched about 1500 of our members into small peer groups). These PRIVATE clubs definitely don't show up in any lists unless someone is Invited to them and they work great for that purpose. But they definitely wouldn't work for our "Vendor User Groups" feature.
Thanks for all your input here @Joel R - much appreciated !!

    Hi mates,
as it seems the "About me" section of a member profile shows all the added text and links, i.e. Spam, even after marked as spammer.
All posts and thread are hidden automagically but not the profile spam stuffing. So I guess our beloved spammers managed to bypass our spam measures...
    Any ideas?

Joel R got a reaction from Nigel Moore in Latest activity's can see Forums Club
I'm a heavy user of clubs on one of my Invision communities and wanted to provide some more information / clarification:
    1.  All members of your greater community are immediately and automatically members of Open & Public clubs.  Those club types are, by definition, open and exposed to the entire community by default.  It's literally in the name of the club type 🙂 . The difference between them is whether or not you need to join to post, but you will always view the content.
Streams, by default, show all available content that members can see.  This means they will see club content from Open & Public clubs, by default.
    2.  I am not a fan of editing the filter for Streams, because if you exclude club content, it will ALWAYS exclude club content even after they join the club.  My assumption is that when members join the Microsoft club, they would want to see the Microsoft club in their stream when they return in the future.
    3.  I personally think your best solution is Closed clubs, which will more than suffice for your use case.  By default, users (for example, brand new members to your overall community) will not see any content from any Closed club until they specifically join Closed clubs.  Which is what you want.  Everyone is happy.
Even though Marc is correct that clubs of Private type will always prevent any public content, I want to explain that in order for Closed clubs to expose  public content, the club owner would have needed to intentionally define that section to show public content.  Don't do that, duh!  Slap the hand of your club owner if he tries to define a new section that "anyone can view."  If you stay away from the options of letting a section intentionally become public, then the content of your Closed club will stay private. Which is what you want.  Members join the club, they see the content.  Members who don't join the club, won't see the content.

Make content public? appears when you add a new section for Topics in a Closed Club.
I am not a fan of Private clubs and want to add a clear warning that Private clubs won't even show on the club list, so you lose all discoverability.  It's literally hidden. It's like a private, hidden, secret club that is invite-only, and you will only see the club after you accept an invite. If you stick with Closed clubs, the club name and description will appear on the list of clubs, and members can browse the vendor user group they want.
As you identified, the one custom coding you would need is to auto-approve member requests to join the closed clubs.
    4.  Some additional tips:
You can choose to let club content areas co-exist with the normal content areas. For example, club forums that members joined can appear in your community Forums, and will append at the bottom.  This allows your community to commingle content and makes it easier for your users to browse and participate, instead of needing to go specifically to the Clubs app.
From a behavioral standpoint, this option is great once it's been set up.  But users will need to navigate to Clubs app in the beginning. If you want to encourage discoverability, I would recommend you create a new forum of Redirect type, which directs users from the community Forum to the Clubs.
If you have that many clubs, you may want to think about defining Extra Fields that can be filterable on the front-end.  This could be things like industry vertical, industry application, user groups, etc.
    5. Even though I've been talking about Clubs ad nauseum, I think it's important to holistically ask if Clubs is the appropriate solution if the only thing you're needing it for is discussion. Clubs are not another tool, it's an entire kit of tools. Just be aware that from a user's behavioral standpoint, Clubs introduces a layer of user complexity.

Joel R reacted to Miss_B in Lost my DB
The best way to go about it imo is to install a new wordpress at a test folder/subdomain using a new database and then compare its tables with the ones from the database that you have used to install your Ipb and wp and omit those tables when you backup the current database so you can restore it at the new database with only the Ipb tables.
Or as mentioned above you can move the database as whole to a new database and after connecting it to the Ipb forum, delete all the wp tables from it. Either method will work.
I suggested the wp tables as a comperasion because wp has less database tables than Ipb and it will reduce your workload.

You're asking IPS, which develops software for a broad set of communities, to develop features they candidly only make sense from the lens of a very different philosophical outlook on digital currencies vs fiat currency.
I've read a lot of interesting suggestions for feedback over the years in the IPS forums.  Its not bad feedback, by the way! But I think it's important that you frame your request (and it's something that all clients should probably get better at) with context: "and by the way, we would need an overhaul of the entire economic world order for these features to make sense."
