Genestoy reacted to Morrigan in I 💖 Invision!
I want to appreciate the Invision Community Staff and creators of the software.
Its been a pretty long journey for me with the software. I purchased my first license back in 2007 but loved the look and feel of the software even before that as I saw it on a site I frequented often. The smoothness, the well crafted forum posts. It had nothing on the free forum softwares that I had been using up until that point and it certainly was leaps and bounds better than vBulletin which I always found clunky and busy.
To put it extremely lightly, I was infatuated with this software from the first time I used it.
To say that I was absolutely flabbergasted when people bailed and went to Xenforo, but I was able to obtain 3 additional licenses for a reasonable price from one of those people, was also an understatement. This genuinely fueled my love and need to use IPS on all of my sites and projects, and I was. It was not long after I obtained those licenses that I upgraded what I consider my biggest site success to IPS and started to expand my network of IPS sites and obtaining a few more small licenses because Pages was quite literally a masterpiece addition and a game changer.
Its no small feat to say that I have a lot of licenses that I hold near and dear to me. I honestly can't actually think of a project that I have started for a website that I haven't used IPS for in over the past ten years.
I was proud to be able to contribute to the IPS team for the short time that I worked for them before moving onto other opportunities.
The staff have been nothing short of understanding and amazing! I don't think I've met more responsive and kind hearted people. I know that I've contacted support in tears because I broke something or something got broken somehow and it was resolved with a speed that I feel should be appreciated. This included times when I was using betas and my entire site was down after upgrades.
As such I want to appreciate you all.
I unfortunately won't be able to keep up with my licenses as I used to (Thank you Bidenomics) but this will still be my go-to software when things change in my situation. It will continue to be my recommendation for anyone that wants to create a site or community. I just wanted to send my love and appreciation for all that you do and tell you to keep up the good work.

OK, thanks guys, I won't know if I fixed it until tomorrow as the error email comes in the middle of the night, should be no problem though.

I would have hoped for a 6 month notice period to be honest not 2 1/2 months.
Considering we cant download addons any more other than through admincp we cant even back up for a wayward plugin dev who is sick or unable to handle the change in 2 months.
Please at least let us download what we own to self install for now.

Like I said, you don't need to upgrade to get around the issue. Just remember to close the IPS message (every time it is re-appearing) and reload the page. That's all.

I’m not judging in any way, just listing some observations about the developer/Marketplace situation in the recent years.
4.5 tightened the rules drastically. Result: several developers left for good. price increases. Developments needs a self-hosted installation and possibly a demo website. It’s now 850 + 300 annually. Someone starting out as developer really needs some killer products to earn that back and then generate profits. Cloud testing of resources would make it even more expensive (+1,788 annually).  Shift/changes to cloud. The lower tiers don’t have the ability to install third-party products. This decreases the reach and makes running independent third-party shops less useful/profitable.  Signatures turned off. No possibility for passive advertisement through community posts.  Limited compatibility field. Sales can only be created for one version, limiting the income.  I have no magical solutions to offer, but are improvements for this something we could put on the table for 2023?
Currently, I am not very optimistic. We only have a handful of active developers left with continued announcements of departures. If it is still working well for some (?), it’s probably because of a large set of files and existing customers with renewals. But I can’t see how new developers would want to get involved in the current situation, replacing the ones who left or even growing the marketplace.
I understand the costs and downsides for IPS. Paying for code reviews, chargeback fees and of course all the support issues with third-party resources. But then again: Looking at the broader field of online software: all the big players strive with and in part because of a flourishing third-party marketplace. So, improvement could easily be a “win-win-win” situation for IPS, developers and IPS customers.

(I would have some suggestions myself but I don’t want to push the topic in a specific direction, so I am leaving it at the problem statement for now.)

    Couldn’t agree more.
I'm evaluating whether it's worth keeping development when IPS5 is released. I'm probably one of the top earners due to the insane number of resources available but It's not worth it anymore. So much hassle for so little return. It definitely used to be better. In my specific case, while I have a lot to deal with/support, it's not a lack of support or new stuff. It is just what the marketplace became… and that’s it.

This makes me sad.  I remember visiting the Marketplace to see the new and exciting offerings.  Now those are rare.
I use several mods to make my site what I want.  Regardless of the "community" direction IPS is taking for its high-paying corporate customers, I still use the software almost exclusively as a forum.

I also hated the way this looks and changed mine a long time ago, but it does involve changing a template. Many of my members have a profile photo and I wanted it out of the area where the photo goes.

Never mind, found it, silly ACP search brings up only "rules" when you search for "Achievements" if you drop the "s" and search for "Achievement" it brings up the settings to turn it off.

Please someone tell me how to stop the IPS Update banner that pops up every day. I get it, you want me to update, but not everyone wants to until they are sure everything including all apps have been updated and is VERY ANNOYING every day!!!
    Thanks for help with this

I received dozens of messages (and this is NOT an overkill) related to Classifieds in the latest 2 years!

I wish at least an auto reply to messages were added to the Core, that would help.

I realize that one cannot change the 'owner' of a thread in the Forum and yet... it would be very helpful if when a dev sells or cedes his/her app to another dev that there be a change of the owner of the app and the support thread. Not changing this is unfair to the dev and to the clients. Clients waste time chasing after the wrong dev and devs do not feel good about the mistaken identity - both the old dev who keeps getting pestered and the new dev who might not be getting the love they deserve for the upkeep of the app, theme or plugin. Maybe you could write a back end script just for IPS to change just files and support threads? It would make the marketplace look more professional to know that it reflects the now and not the then.
    Thoughts?
    Thx.

No point explaining to him, The plugin price states $10, common sense means you pay the update price when you need it. He says $40 for a green dot is too expensive.. There is no other option for an online indicator, so let him do without one. Some time it's better to ignore people rather than trying to help them.

UPDATE: The htaccess script did not work so my hosting provider had sent me an email to see if I was "satisfied" with the support I got and you can guess what I told them, I also told them I was searching for another host that would be able to accommodate me! Then the next day I get another email from a senior support person and lo and behold he fixed the problem with some script in a special server php that only affects my domain on the server, so it can be done just have to be persistent!
