@FZare you running the latest version of IPS because there was a bug whenever they released 4.6.6, and they have released a patch to fix that issue.
  2. Thanks

What you are seeing there has actually been patched. You would need to apply that patch in your Admin CP under the support section to correct this. Alternatively, you could await 4.6.7 which will be going out shortly.

The only reason I would say this is redundant is that both iOS and Android have built in capability to do a quick scroll to top. In iOS it’s universally just tapping the top of the screen. Android has a few different implementations but you can set it up with a gesture in any event. I understand that a button is super easy, but in this case it does seem like replication of native OS behavior.

I want to thank you all for your feedback. I appreciate everyone who took the time to leave their thoughts and concerns. I've read every single one and replied to almost all of them.
Firstly, I want to say that I understand that the messaging that went out ahead of this update fell short of what you deserve, and I want to apologise for that.
After spending two days reading every single post, almost all concerns fall into these three areas:
    1) The future of support
I've seen many people use the phrase 'no more support', which isn't true. I know the change from ticket support to staffed community support is a significant change, but I genuinely believe that it will benefit customers. I believe that we can create a living knowledge base of solved issues just like many brands do. For example, when I have a problem with my iPhone, I google it and invariably end up with a link to a topic within their support forums with a solved answer. I don't need to raise a ticket with them and wait for a reply.
There are many "what about" concerns mixed in, and I ask you to try the new staffed community support areas and give us your feedback once you've used it regularly. We will work with you based on that feedback and make improvements where it is needed.
We have custom functionality that shows our team links to your client accounts, including license keys, etc., so we know who you are and have all your information right next to the topic. You will never need to divulge personal information, or even your site URL if you do not want to.
If your support issue is complex or needs developer intervention, with a click of a button, our technicians can convert this into a ticket for you and we will continue to resolve the issue with you in that ticket.
You will be in safe hands.
    2) Price Rises
We have not raised our prices for well over a decade. We've always been reluctant to do it and held off for too long, resulting in a large jump to make up for a lost time.
We can't reduce the prices to their pre-September levels, but we will be much more mindful of price rises in the future.
    3) Annual Renewals
We want to simplify billing and reduce the number of invoices we need to send, and you need to pay. An annual invoice seemed logical to achieve this.
However, you have made it clear that moving to annual renewals affects your budgeting, and we have listened to that.
We have reverted this decision and have restored 6-month renewals in your client area. This is not a temporary one-off offer; it's a permanent change.
Again, I want to thank you all for being so vocal and passionate about Invision Community. We want to keep offering you the very best community platform to help your communities succeed.

The quick fix here for all is for IPS to halt the switch to annual renewals up front. I get that some people might like to switch to annual renewal but at least give us a choice, please.
Looking at my Client Centre earlier, I'm shocked.
Next month October 1st, I have about 2 weeks to find $155 then another $30.

Then November, I now have to find another $185.

Then the final kick in the nuts, a week before Christmas, I have to find $310.

$680 in the next 3 months without any notice. Great, thanks IPS.

@Matt When you break down a large amount into a monthly amount and base it on the lowest denominator, it looks trivial, but we're not talking about a monthly payment.  To just drop this onto everyone without so much as mention is really bad karma. You just need to look at this topic and realise how toxic it is and there is no remorse, just excuses and rubbishy PR talk. Sorry mate, it just doesn't make sense and it doesn't sit well with your clients and that is something you need to address quickly before the floodgates open.  I really don't like have to post these replies and I don't like being forced out of the door after such a long time, but if that is the intent and there is no relenting then out of the door I will go, with great sadness.  The one solace is that there are alternatives out there that are more affordable.

Let’s just not forget that it can (and it will) get worse for devs:  the increase of IPS comission from 10% to 20% per sale and the weekly payment to monthly payment!
I understand that this is an “internal” issue but these two will certainly be the the latest straw to me.

In all seriousness Matt. If you / the rest of the management at invision think that sort of timescale is acceptable when communicating such a big jump in price, then I really do recommend you hire someone with more knowledge and skills in communication and customer care. You needed to be weeks ahead of this, to give people reasonable notice.

Anyway, it's been some time that IPB pushes us to leave them (you plan to stop your activity?), they have absolutely no understanding of the current markets, the big boxes are moving more and more only to alternative solutions like Discord, facebook, ect ... to discuss with their community (the proof, even Bethesda closed its forums recently!)
The premium argument would be funny if it was a joke, but it seems that @Mattis serious.
Ipboard has nothing premium, it is behind in all the fields and does not evolve any more since years, it is especially about correction of bug, on the contrary, it even tends to lose functionalities!
Ipchat -> abandoned without notice. Mobile application -> abandoned without notice. No, the annual renewal has no more sense, it is a total nonsense, because precisely we have no roadmap on what is planned, on the contrary, we go from bad surprise to bad surprise with your communication completely off the mark.
Especially since @Jordan response indicating to reload our accounts 6 months before to keep this period is for me a new proof of total contempt for your customers.

Lol is a joke ? We should also pay you for each "major" version? So we would have to pay for the software + a renewal for security updates + an additional fee for upgrades? You're definitely missing the point!

The truth is that for a few years, nothing has been added on IPB, except the club function, the rest is bug fixes!
You put forward the webp as a novelty, no sorry, the addition of two lines of codes to accept this file extension which is already supported by the majority of CMS for a few years is not a novelty.
The addition of zapier is not a novelty either, it is above all a proof of laziness on your part to really integrate these functionalities in IPB, because if tomorrow Zapier closes, or decides like you to increase its prices of 30%, we are taken hostage!
I will start by believing that you get a com for each request sent by an IPBoard installation.
What's the next step, suppressing the sending of mail outside the provider? By the way, why didn't you take AWS which is the most common ?
When I read that on this subject, it confirms me even more in what I think, you try to do as little as possible today to rehash as much as possible.
You want me to pay 30% more and once a year?
Ok, start by listening to your community, work on your software so that it respects today's web standards and that it gets the best possible score on pagespeed especially on mobile, offer us a real integration of wepb, discord, private messages in instant, do your job when you validate an extension on the market to make sure it works properly and then I would accept to pay more.

  10. Thanks

He most likely can but you won't get the positive answer you want.
I've had time to sleep on this and my conclusion is this:
You say you haven't increased prices in a decade. Who's fault is this?  A small annual increase is easier to swallow than a massive increase in one fell swoop.
Such a large increase for your corporate clients will be less than chicken feed and they will most likely offset this against tax. Us hobbyists can't do that and such an increase of these proportions is ridiculous if expect us to buy into it.
In a declining hobbyist market you would be best placed to split your business into two - one catering for corporates who you can charge whatever big bucks they're willing to part with, and one more affordable option for hobbyists; the two are mutually incompatible and you can't expect hobbyists to pay corporate prices.
You need to take a look at what your competition is charging and price yourselves competitively.  You can argue that you have the better product, but when priced way above competitors it doesn't look so attractive from the ground up.
A small number of your clients who are used to being on this (and I say this loosely) community platform have probably voiced the concerns of many and who are now leaving the fold.  How big a number do you have to lose, silently, before you realise you made a huge blunder? A number 'we' will never know.
It's like you have taken a big stick and beaten us with it and then in come the pacifiers with, "well, you know" as though that is some kind of ointment to soothe the pain.
I just bought my second licence this year, that was bought with faith and trust in you as business, which incidentally has grown because of the grassroots support of your hobbyist clients over many years; that has flown the nest with this latest announcement.
So you should be aware that whilst your costs are rising, just the same as ours, your income is about to take a dive.
I am fully aware that prices rise constantly and it's a pain we all have to bear, but imagine if you went into your local grocery store and when you get through the checkout and have to pay the bill, you find that it's 50% more than last year.  How happy would you be with that?
Small increases over a period of time hurt less and it's YOUR fault that you didn't do this over the last decade and now you want us to swallow the sob story - no way.  Am I angry, you bet - I wasted good money buying that second licence and there's no way I'm throwing any more at it. Your loss, my gain.
You may be great at developing software, but you suck as looking after your clients, especially those who have walked this path with you since the beginning.

I'm imagining a parallel universe, where rather than a condescending, pr spun, rushed out email had been sent after the event, instead a clear, honest, professional and concise one was, ahead of time.
    If only.
I'd like to assume that Invision's ability to shoot themselves in the foot with bad/lacking communication is due to their focus being on other things within the business. But one part of me starts to wonder if it's just a case of not being bothered enough about their customers. Time will tell, as at some point these lessons are going to have to be learned.

QFT – This is a serious point.
I can handle the price increases (10 years is a long time without one, absolutely) but the way they were communicated and implemented has been... poor.
    Que Sera
One other note, as mentioned above, more recent PR and community management has come across as rather shallow and insincere.
    We are not children.
Some of us have dealt with death on a daily basis and are not 'funky teenagers'. If you are a business, with business prices, please endeavour to keep it business-like, with a business-like respect for your customers' intelligence.
    Thank you.

The announcement of a price hike combined with no more ticket support is reason enough for me to reconsider my business strategy.

I rarely need ticket support, I usually solve the problems myself. But having no ticket support for a software is simply a no-go for me. And having a newsletter that tries to sell a drastically price hike from $50 to $80 as "increase of $2.50/month" is more cynicism than I need from a provider. If I need cynicism or sales speech I will do that myself.

I worked for more than 20 years as a developer, team leader and divisional head in the software industry and I think I have a sixth sense for software companies and how they work and think internally. In the last year I have got too many bad signals from Invision: maybe in the future cloud only? Zapier not until protests? Price hike. No more ticket support.

I'm in the process of converting a bunch of Xenforo and Wordpress sites to Invision and today I've halted the process. Final decision how to proceed until end of the year. In the end, its all about trust.

Personally, I'm giving up $ 110 x2 for 2 forums that don't bring me anything + € 300 hosting it's starting to get heavy, for a few updates, so I'm going to stop the costs there! Thank you ! Already I found that Netflix abused with 3x 2 € in 2 years, but now we go from $ 70 to $ 110 you think I'm growing money on trees ?! then we are surprised that people choose the pirate versions! 😞
It's no longer an increase, it's downright racketeering!

The problem is the recent release of IPS is not one I wish to install onto my board. Guess I'll just keep pressing "X" every 24 hours.
I completely agree. Seeing it every 24 hours is a bit much... it is up to us to either upgrade or not upgrade. It has nothing to do with a security update. It has to do with the release of the new forum release itself, and not wanting said-release installed. I could understand if a board were running 4.6 release, but not if one is still running 4.5 by choice.

Seeing the same message (or messages) every day even though I dismissed the same message the previous day is supremely annoying.  Unfortunately, it's not always easy to just upgrade your forum when such a message appears.  Smaller forums, sure, but when you have a large forum with a custom theme (as well as third-party themes) and various third-party plugins and applications (many of which were custom jobs written for your forum), it's non-trivial to just update your forum on a whim, especially with major revisions of the software.  I know I need to upgrade the forum, I don't need to be reminded every single time I visit my forum or ACP.

To summarise, less services for higher fees. It's that our community is heavily build on IPS but I would think twice about using IPS for any new project now. Especially the lack of support is clearly a lack of confidence from the company.
That said, I have nothing against community support - It's great to steer people there. But IPS has (in recent years) always steered people towards ticket support.
This is also not the only recent price increase (IPS cancelled legacy bundles and increased prices for those). It's clear to say that I'm not happy about this.

Another question, on some of my licenses I want to cancel some applications too. For example I don't need downloads anymore and on some sites not even forums, only core and pages.
So can I do that when I get the next invoice? As long as I have already paid for them I still want to use them/backup content, but when I renew not for those apps of course.
In the client area I can only renew the whole package with all purchased apps and then it looks like it's too late.

FZ got a reaction from Summit360 in Honest Feedback
I've been running an online forum since 2006 and I have been using IPS since (I think) at least 2011), so I've been a customer for 10 years. I have two licenses, another one is used for a client's website.
I just want to say something about what I perceive is poor development practise from IPS regarding upgrades. Since version 4, every major point upgrade has brought me nothing but grief. You remove features that are integral to the functioning of my community and you introduce things that are, to be honest, seldom very useful.
I don't know why you remove these things. Maybe there are reasons that make sense to yourselves as a company, but I have to tell you that after 10 years of going through these upgrade dramas, I am fast approaching the last straw. I don't have hundreds of hours to waste fixing things that were working before "upgrading" so that I can continue to use software I am paying for and which is supposed to me making my life easier (not harder).
I understand the need for technology to change, but functionality should never just be tossed out the window because you may think it isn't working for your customers.

I'll answer this, and hopefully it'll get the other question answered as well, at least to some degree.
The Discover feed, in my (and a big chunk of our users) opinion, is too overwhelming and throws too much information at you. Posts or threads alone are ok, both - that's a bit too much, and then adding in reactions just makes it a bit, well, much. Moreover, if one thread has a few posts posted in it in close proximity - it takes over the feed and if you're not interested in this particular topic, you may find yourself feeling like "I've got nothing to read".
For that reason, we've set up two more pages in addition to the discover feed - one that shows new posts, and another that shows new threads - that way you see every thread only once, and you don't get flooded with multiple instances of the same thread. This is where the "Thread feed" widget lived, basically alone (together with the hot topics widget and another unrelated one) and acting as pretty much it's one page. seeing which threads were updated since your last visit is obviously useful if you visit that page often.

    Oh come on, Daniel.
How was this a bug? It worked perfectly for years and it gives the community an indication of what they have not yet read on the community. Removing it basically removes functionality that is (to my mind) critical for the user experience.
What if we decide that we should remove $10 from your license renewal fees because you removed something that we used and need? You wouldn't like that very much (if it was possible for your customers to do), would you?
Not happy with IPS and the response to this criticism. :(
