Dreadknux got a reaction from My Sharona in Sync Reactions for Topic and Linked CMS Record
It would be great if a future update allowed for the syncing of Reactions made between a Topic in the forums and a linked CMS/Page Record.
At the moment, when you link a Topic and CMS record together (either by making a CMS record and having a topic created, or by using "Copy to Database" on an existing forum topic), almost everything else is sync'd up. Tags, comments/replies... even the Reactions made towards those comments/replies! But for some reason, Reactions on the Topic's original post and the CMS Record remain completely separate. It's inconsistent.
Changing this would go a long way to help integrate CMS and Topics - a lot of users on my community tend to React to posts more than they do comment, and I want to make sure those Reactions are reflected in all linked content,
I raised this as more of a bug concern around a year ago, but was told it was actually expected behaviour. So I figure I'd make a suggestion about this, it'd be a small but great improvement!

Dreadknux got a reaction from Matt in Pages: Have to Set Past Publish Date Three Times
Please don’t derail this thread, it’s only confusing and complicating my original post and issues. The objective here is to fix the inconsistencies in the publish date code (which Matt and the IPS team have recognised as a bug) and to track the progress of this. Whatever you were told is related to your own individual issue, so please leave it there. Thanks.

Yes, absolutely. I'll see what I can do. I do want to fix this properly, but I went down into a bit of a rabbit hole with it yesterday. 🐇

Dreadknux got a reaction from DawPi in Search Results Display: Group Connected CMS Records & Topics/Other Content
One of the things I like about Invision Community is the ability to create Pages/CMS records from content published in other areas of the site. In my case, I am exploring leveraging the engaged community on my forums to help populate news stories across my website. So in my situation, I tend to use the CMS 'Copy to Database' feature with Topics often.
However, this causes a little confusion with regards to discoverability and organised search, as content that has been linked/connected in this way are not listed as such in search results or activity feeds. This means that, if a lot of your site content relies on the marriage between CMS/Pages and Topics/other content, it can easily look like content is duplicated several times on the website. This can be (and is, for me) a frustrating browsing experience for users who might want to sweep Tagged content, only to find items that are listed as separate entries but are in fact linked items of the same content.
I would like to suggest an improvement in a future Invision Community version, that attempts to address this. It would be great to have a setting in ACP that ensures, if a topic (or other piece of content on the site) has been used to create a CMS record, the two pieces of content are grouped in search results.
I've made a mockup of how this could be designed. First, here's a snapshot of how it currently looks when I create a new CMS record (in this case, a news article) and have a topic automatically created upon publish. As you can see, there is a Pages content block for the CMS record (complete with thumbnail) at the top, and underneath it a separate Topic content block with exactly the same content.

And here is my mockup for a potential solution. Note that the topic entry is marked as a 'connected topic' as it was created from the CMS record.

You could also build in additional settings to further customise this - for example, I want to make sure that the CMS record/article is always shown first as the 'parent' result in groupings like this, but there could be a toggle to swap this around and ensure that, if any such groupings exist in search results, that it's the Topic that is shown as the top 'parent' result and the CMS record is instead nested underneath it.
It's not the most urgent QOL improvement, to be honest, but I think it would help make search and content discovery on Invision Communities a bit more sensible. 🙂

Dreadknux got a reaction from Maxxius in SEO Issues? CMS Records Not Reaching Google / Renamed Topics Result in Duplicate Entries?
I'm (slowly, very conservatively) looking to transition an existing Wordpress site install into a migrated Invision Community CMS/Pages setup so that it is integrated nicely with my existing forum. One of the reasons for my conservatism is potential SEO issues - I know how well my Wordpress news stories can reach within Google's search results ranking, but I am not sure whether the same would be true for Invision Community's platform (at least, on the Pages CMS side).
A couple days ago, our team and community made the following pieces of content:
A LEGO news story, on my existing Wordpress installation, A topic on my Invision Community forum, about the same subject (which was renamed several times), and a second news story, identical to the Wordpress one, created on Invision Community CMS/Pages app, using 'Copy to Database' and pulling from the above topic. All of these content pieces have been live and kicking for about three days. I did a quick vanity search to test the ranking/viability of all three content pieces.

As you can see above, it's a little strange.
Of course, the Wordpress story appears at the very top of the search results (which I would expect, as it currently uses the base domain and is the primary location for my website/community's news stories). Nothing weird there.
But the Invision Community Topic appears THREE times in search results, and all three items lead to the exact same topic. I can think of no reason for this happening except, perhaps Invision Community treats a renamed version of the same topic as a separate entry, and that is pushed individually to Google. This can be confusing to see, especially if all three links lead to the same place. Is there scope to fix this in a future revision of Invision Community? If a topic/content is renamed or URL slug changed, it should be considered all one piece of content in terms of SEO, right?
Another issue is that, as you can see, the Invision Community-produced news story linked above does not appear in search results at all. Obviously this is a problem for me if I am seeking to fully migrate my Wordpress over to Invision Community, as it could result in my Google results rankings absolutely tanking. I know the Invision Community news side of things is considered less important than my Wordpress from a search ranking perspective right now... but is it normal for it not to appear at all? The permissions set to my Pages database is all set to public visibility.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there some SEO-specific settings I need to consider? Or is this something that needs some refinement on Invision Community's side for future releases?

If Google indexed each topic name change, it may take a little time before the redirect from the old topic name to the current name gets reflected in the index and it removes the other variations.
I would research the Pages record URL in your Google Webmaster to see why the URL has not been indexed: https://board.sonicstadium.org/news/merchandise/rumor-new-sonic-lego-sets-in-2023-r194/ . Sometimes, it just takes some time to be indexed or there may actually be an issue with that page preventing it from being indexed that you'll need to resolve.
If your main website and your forum are established areas, it may take Google a while to pick up newer areas until they get enough "juice."

    HI @Dreadknux
This bug report was investigated recently and some fixes have been implemented for a future release. Since we're in a bug fix only cycle over the holidays. With this fix being a little more involved, it will be included when we restart feature releases around February at the earliest.

I think something like that is probably possible now with some custom code but a future update could make it a lot easier.

If your moderators have their permissions set in the "Forums" tab, that is all which they will be able to moderate. They will not receive notifications about Databases, as in your screenshot, it is disabled.
  13. Thanks
Dreadknux reacted to Jim M in Can I Set Custom Ban/Approval Management Rules per Pages Database?
Correct, you would simply remove permissions for their member group (or user) to moderate those specific areas. Each database will show up in the Moderators permission area in the ACP.

You would indeed need to create a new group for that purpose that has no access, and move them to that group as needed. There is no other way of doing this.
These are individual notification settings. So they would edit their notification settings on the front end, rather than something you edit from the admin CP. They will have a "Moderation" section, which includes approval notifications

Dreadknux got a reaction from kmk in Images - Gallery/Grid Arrangement!
From a content creation/design aspect, the one thing that I think is perhaps the most frustrating in the IPS suite is the inability to insert images in a gallery/grid-like arrangement in the editor/page. If there is one feature that prevents me from fully converting my Wordpress site into an IPS Pages/CMS setup, it is this.
Wordpress allows for the upload of images, much like IPS - but also allows for the insertion of 'gallery'/grid containers that can neatly include these attachments on the page.
Some images to illustrate how Wordpress does it:

    ^ Initial 'Gallery' Block container

^ Image Uploader and Gallery Image Arrange Dialog

^ The image gallery/grid output (on the WYSIWYG editor but this also has the same appearance on the public site)

    ^ Gallery container block options

    ----------
It boggles my mind that there isn't anything close to something like this available out of the box on IPS Suite. I have a number of other improvement suggestions related to image upload that I hope the IPS Staff is also taking on board, but I feel like this small improvement would be a trivial enhancement to add to a monthly update patch and would add so much QOL improvements for those of us who want to decorate our content in an organised way.
Could something like this be taken on board and added to a future release please?

Dreadknux got a reaction from Luuuk in Quoted Post Truncation -- Where is this setting?
I had a similar issue, but slightly different execution - maybe sharing my solution will help you in some way?
I wanted to keep the quote truncation for forums/user-generated content, but I'm building out a news/blog side to my setup using Pages, and I didn't want truncation on quotes made on Page records. The quote blocks use CSS to truncate the content, so I used CSS to override this on Page records and allow full quotes to show only there.
If you want to only remove truncation for quotes on a certain part of your site, this method does require you know the parent container CSS class so that your changes do not apply broadly to your entire installation.
.XXXX .ipsQuote .ipsQuote_contents { height: auto !important; position: unset !important; overflow: auto; } .XXXX .ipsQuote .ipsQuote_contents.ipsTruncate + a.ipsTruncate_more, .XXXX .ipsQuote .ipsQuote_contents.ipsTruncate:after { display: none; } Where 'XXXX' is the class of the parent container (i.e. article.mysitenews, or even article[data-controller="core.front.modcp.report"]). The first CSS command opens the truncated quote block so the entire quoted text is visible, while the second CSS command removes the 'Expand' area underneath a truncated area.
I don't know if you're looking for something a bit more advanced, given your talk of hiding quotes for ignored users etc - maybe a plugin is more what you're after - but hopefully this can help in some small way. 🙂

Troubleshooting custom themes is not directly supported by IPS.  They're not going to assist with creating themes or figuring out why you can't copy/paste code around to different areas of the core software.

Again… with CSS… you don’t NEED to edit core CSS to improve SEO.  Just because you know how to change something does not mean you’re doing it in the right spot or doing it in a way that is sustainable.

Thanks for this informative video guys! I know a lot of the feedback you get from customers here (including myself sometimes!) is to have more of a view on what’s coming up with new features and roadmap items, so it is great to see that happening with these videos. Hope they become a regular feature!
I love the new Events front page, would this replace the current Calendar view at all? Also, my community tends to use the Calendar feature as more of a release date/anniversaries feature for certain products (games, comics, etc) so would those sorts of calendar events still be able to be presented in that Events homepage style? Or is it more designed for actual events (in-person or zoom call style)? I think it would make certain upcoming game anniversaries (ie. X Years Since Pac-Man Released) and livestream events look really cool!
I know other services like Twitch was mentioned in the Q&A (which is great because I’d love to see Twitch and YouTube Live be integrated into this), but would Discord also be a consideration? We have a Discord server and it would be awesome if we could integrate it with our IPB site so that any Events we post on the IPB would be automatically reflected in our Discord server (and maybe vice versa , but not necessarily).
Thanks for putting this video together!
