I have heard that PHP 5.3 can be between 10% and 30% faster than PHP 5.2 and use up to 40% less memory. For wordpress it's suppose to be 15% faster. My question is how much faster could it be for IPB 3.1.1 and how does that translate in the real world. My ping to my server is roughly 160ms The load time at the bottom of ipb is 0.0400 sec to 0.0650 sec (normally 0.1200 to 1.800 on here :P ) Using Litespeed and Memcache Pagespeed 1.8 rating of 79/100 for index page So will it be around 10-30% faster on the whole loading process or just 10-30% on 0.0500 sec to 0.0650 sec ?

I'm having an issue with my 404 not showing up properly in tier folders... So, lets try these: http://www.pyloth.com/wtf [url=" http://www.pyloth.com/wtf.html All go to the 404 page correctly, right? Yes, and all are displayed correctly. Now, let's try these: http://www.pyloth.com/omg/wtf [url=" http://www.pyloth.com/omg/wtf.html All go to the 404 page correctly, right? Yes, but all are displayed incorrectly. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks, in advance :]

When checking site speed with for example Page Speed (as the website speed seems to matter nowadays) many images don't have image sizes specified in IPB. Should this not be implemented from the get go in the IPB?

If i wanted to change my forum directory how would i go about it for example www.websitename.com/forums would be the current to www.websiteame.com/ford/forums (change too) if i just move the files then the links would still direct me to www.websitename.com/forums/index when i would need it to direct me to www.websitename.com/ford/forums/index I know this is how it was done on 2.2 if anyone is finding what i'm asking to be confusing :P http://www.ipbwiki.com/Ipb_2.2:Renaming_Forum_Directory

I hope this is in the right forum...it's not a specific IPB product topic. I don't really know what's going on. Cyberduck (free mac ftp) was rewriting files poorly, and they were not working. So I downloaded a trial of Transmit, which was recommended highly, and it deletes everything in a directory before uploading the new content. As a result, I had to re-upload all of my custom image files...and now all my IPS modules are gone. Which is really annoying since I am hosted on their servers and only have access to the files via IPS uploading them for me! So I don't know what I am supposed to do...it still has all of the modules listed as installed, but they don't work. I ha…

Hello ! :-) I've noticed that my board is very slow when I have about 900 users online and the server load is about 4 (sometimes it's about 2, sometimes it's about 6). How far is Apache responsible for this ? Is there something which can be done, regarding Apache, to make the board faster ? What are the settings which can be tweaked in Apache to make the board faster ? Here are the settings I use in httpd.conf : ServerSignature off ServerTokens Full FileEtag All StartServers 5 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 10 MaxClients 150 MaxRequestsPerChild 25000 MaxKeepAliveRequests 50 KeepAliveTimeout 10 Thank you ! :-)

Hello! I have some questions regarding large forum databases i hope you guys can help me with. Just out of interest, how large can a database be before it's literally useless. I'm looking for the limit where the database is so large that it's causing slow loading or other issues in general for visitors. What do you do when your database is too large? What is the preferred database for so much content? How do you run such a database? Who's willing to host such a database? What do you need to maintain it (hardware/software/bw etc.)? These questions might be pretty bad as i have no clue whatsoever I'm talking about. I would like if someone could tell me how all this work, an…

Hi all, I'm currently hosting our site on a VPS which is great but on my quest for more speed and faster page loading for our visitors I'm thinking about using a CDN alongside our VPS. Now I know we can't actually host the site on a CDN because most can't deliver dynamic content from MySQL or PHP, etc, but my question is simply this. What exactly could we host on a CDN apart from file downloads and images, and would anyone consider this option to have a dramatic effect on the page delivery to the end user?. If not, is there anything we could do with a CDN or a second server that would greatly improve the site's performance? Thanks in advance Marko

I've translated the phrases in word pack "forums/public_forums" into Spanish, in Admin CP mode. I'm using charset es_ES.UTF-8 for the new language pack. With the new translated word pack I've noticed that the JS links and menus don't work: the link "Click here to show filter options" doesn't do anythingthe menu "Forum Management" does not show as a menu but with all items outside it (first item to its right, rest of items below)the user profile menu and the unread notifications menu behave as simple links (no js behaviour) Also, ticking any of the boxes to select a single topic, or all topics, does not work: the number next to "With Selected (0)" doesn't change, and i…

I was read about sphinx engine and the ipb plugin for 2.3.6 and i am wondering if search for greek characters will work ? Did anyone test a similar configuration? Thank you

Hey all. As I said in another topic (http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/307434-cant-see-any-ips/) that I am unable to see any IP addresses of anyone who posts. Now I have messed around with it abit and I notice that it works with Apache perfectly but with lighttpd it doesn't. So, I am guessing it is possible that lighttpd is missing a module and below is the modules I have loaded. Am I missing any that anyone can think off that may be affecting this ? Thanks to anyone whom can at least point me in the right place

Hello, My forum is not busy and don't have too many videos uploaded either, but these bots are using up a huge amount of my forum bandwidth. The monthly average bandwidth usage of my forum is in the vicinity of 5gb. I think this is too much for a slow forum like mine. I do have a robot text uploaded to root directory, but what other measures can I take to stop these bots from using so much of bandwidth? Any suggestions to reduce bandwidth wastage will be appreciated.

After some searching I have narrowed the alternatives down to: <url snip> Any views on this, what should I go for? Or maybe you have a better choice? Will these alternatives be able to handle a forum with up to 400 online users and 900 daily posts?

This is probably a silly question LOL but I have 2 boards. A current phpBB & a new IPb. I am slowly getting ready for a transfer. My question is how do I tell if my 2 boards are on the same server?? They're both on my website. I made a sub domain temporarily for the new board, both boards are on different IP's. How can I find out if they're on the same server or not??

URL 1: /page/applications URL 2: /page/applications?record=1 URL 3: /page/applications?record=1&page=requirements If you notice in URL 3, I am attempting to pass the variable page. I would like to know how I can get the variable inside a template file. I have tried using the $_GET method, but it only ever returns 'applications' (no quotes). Any help is greatly appreciated.

When I click on the header logo to bring up the home page of my 3.1 beta, the query count in the footer reads "6 queries." The mysql log shows 23 queries for that request. I completely cleared the log before clicking on the logo. I checked this more than once with the same result, and other pages show similar discrepancies. 6 of these queries appear to be hitting a cache table, but they're still queries. At 23, the count seems comparatively low, but still, does anyone know what accounts for the discrepancies? Here are the log entries for that one request: 100511 4:47:36 2524 Connect root@localhost on ip31b 2524 Query set autocommit=1 2524 Q…
