So I tried this : /usr/local/bin/searchd --config /usr/local/etc/sphinx_ipb.conf But it says : -bash: /usr/local/bin/searchd: no such file or directory. What should I do now ? Re-install everything ? Spider/search Bots stopped visiting
by Guest rct2·com- 3 replies
I took a couple of domains down for around 24 hours while I moved them to a new server. So as a result, the IP address has changed. I had set up DNS earlier in the week so that the new IP should propagate in 30 minutes. Less than 24 hours after I brought the sites back up, one board has had a record of almost 3000 different visitors in a 60 minute interval. Almost 2800 of them were Guests. Another 24 hours later and the numbers are still running consistently above 1500 in 60 minutes. But NONE of them are spiders/bots. Not a single search bot has visited the domain since 21st March just before I shut it down. Does it NORMALLY take the search bots this long to revis…

Help modifying max_execution_time on localhost
by Guest FrostedPopTart- 11 replies
Before you ask, yes I modified php.ini, my.cnf, and httpd.conf already; along with putting a .htaccess in my phpmyadmin directory and even going so far as to add a line in the affected file(s) to do an ini_set and trying to change it that way, all to no avail. The problem is that I have set up Wamp Server on my computer for testing purposes, and I am trying to import a rather small (about 10.5 mb) database. The problem may be that it has loads of rows (almost 72,000; to be exact). So what should I do, since all I am getting is: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in C:\wamp\apps\phpmyadmin3.1.1\libraries\dbi\mysqli.dbi.lib.php on line 165 ?…

Transferring servers
by Guest Philiwily- 8 replies

I'm in the process of transferring servers, and importing my sql database is giving me issues. It's 135mb, 25mb gzipped. When I try to import it in phpmyadmin, I have "Allow interrupt of import in case script detects it is close to time limit. This might be good way to import large files, however it can break transactions" ckecked off. So, it will do a couple of tables, then stop. Then I have to start it again. If I uncheck it, Firefox just times out after a little bit and I have to start from the beginning. Is there any easier way to do this? I've transferred servers before and I've never had this problem.

Do .js files query the database?
by Guest fishfood- 3 replies

Hi there, I've got major issues with my hosting provider. I run a moderately popular website with several thousand registered members, but only ever about 10-20 users online at a time (although there are normally a similar number of guests too). They say that the site has outgrown the resellers account I currently use and I need to move up to a dedicated server. I disagree with them and think they're just trying to get more money off me. Anyway - after lengthy discussion they reckon that this is the list of files which are being most problematic in terms of causing CPU overload: Looking at the files I see a lot of javascipt files, a gif, a css and not a a co…

Hello ! :) I'm making a backup every day and CPanel sends me an e-mail. Today, in the e-mail, I found this line : So I'm wondering why I get this "permission denied" error today (and not before). I've had a look at the two files inside my uploads directory. I noticed that for the files, the owner and group could be : root root or myaccount myaccount The two files, which had been uploaded on the 19th of June 2004, are chmoded 444 (the other files are all chmoded 777, 755 or 644) and for both files owner and group are : root In another directory I used for backing the files, I see that the files are chmoded 777 and the user isn't root but myaccount…

Tweaking a server for IPB - How ?
by Guest SecondSight- 2 replies

Hello ! :) I'm having a few high server loads on my new server and I don't understand why... My old server was : 8 processors Intel® Xeon® CPU E5345 @ 2.33GHz speed: 2334.683 MHz cache size: 4096 KB With 6 Gb RAM. My new server is : 8 processors Intel® Xeon® CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz speed: 2660.194 MHz cache size: 6144 KB With 12 Gb RAM I suppose my new server is more powerful... I also have eaccelerator installed. But, if my old server was working well with 800/1200 users online, this new server I have now gets high server loads with only 450 users online... So I don't understand. So I wonder : is there a special way of configuring the server for IPB ? …

I recently upgraded to 1GB RAM from 512MB and need some help with setting up the httpd.conf and my.cnf. I run one Invision Board 2.x forum and some medium PHP/MySQL powered sites. Hello, I had some issues with MySQL performance, especially when there is over 400users - seems that gallery makes this issue, because when I disable it it runs much faster. I had read few articles about differences between performance of MyISAM and innoBD table types. I'm nearly decided to move to innoDB, but I'm not sure if I have to do this only for some tables or do this for all tables in db, except sessions whil remain HEAP. Do any of You have some experience with performance on both of that db types? My server is DELL PowerEdge 2950III xeon quad core 2ghz, 8gb ram 3x146 gb sas disks in raid5 for system and www, 2x146 gb sas disks in raid0 only for db. Sh…

WebFusion VPS running slow?
by Guest Lenny Warren- 2 replies

Hi there, I'm currently on a VPS 2.0 Pro package from WebFusion. Ubuntu. I've been with them for years, first on shared, now VPS. I generally run Invision discussion forums on them, as well as a few static websites. Ok for disk space, memory etc. but recently it has been sooooooo slow, lag is getting unacceptable. It is intermittently ok, then slow as treacle. My customers are starting to complain. I've spoken to tech support, and all they say is it's fine, but will look into it and then contact data centre. To be honest, over the last few years I've seen a decline in tech support and customer service, but wondering what to do now. I pay annually and my budget i…
