Today I am having some serious issues with my host (Site5). I am paying for a dedicated server, but I strongly suspect that they have me on a VPS because I don't even see dedi's advertised on their site anymore. Anyway, I would really appreciate some suggestions on providers that I can trust. I am going to need a lot of help migrating the system, which runs on cPanel and has two reseller accounts onboard. All in I think I have about 50 domain names hosted on the box and am using WHMCS to run billing on it. Any suggestions?

Post Cache - What does everyone have theirs set at? I think the default is 7 days, but is there any harm in making it 30,60 or ever 180 days to speed things up? The Post cache gets regenerated if there is a new post added anyways correct? Thanks

When someone is downloading a file from ipdownload, the entire forum will stop responding. Only when you finished/stopped downloading will the forum re…

Are there any known issues between IPB and LiteSpeed? Just checking before I move my forum to HawkHost. I heard there were some issues not specific to IPB but I forget what they were.

I know that it is recommended that the Table type for Sessions be converted from MyISAM to Memory, but I was wondering if there were any other tables that could be changed to Memory to improve performance. Maybe the skin tables?

Just wanna make this post to thank Gary and tell everyone else about him So I was thinking about updating to 3.2 a few weeks ago then I had the dilemma of changing domains and moving my site to a new server. I am not confident as this kind of work and came to gary for help. Within a few minutes of sending him a PM he was on it. Faster than I could get everything ready he was there ready to work. I had minimal downtime and no issues whatsoever. Then moving to 3.2 came and I got gary to do that. He upgraded all my applications, IP.Content and IP.Board with downtime of 1 hour. Then when I had some issues specific to my board concerning IP.Content he helped sort it. Stu…

I have a Cpanel WHM VPS with PHP, MySQL, Apache, Sphinx, Eaccellerator and Zend Optimizer. All is great except PHP generation times such as my IP.Content page take over 1 second, 1.8 seconds to be exact. I'm looking to lower that under 1 second with a bit of optimizing of PHP/MySQL and Apache. So this includes installing anything that will enhance performance, tweaking the existing my.cnf, php.conf, httpd.conf for low resource usage and faster page loads and lower page generation times. I forgot to mention tweaking and optimizing FastCGI. I don't have a lot of money, so a person that can do this for free or a nominal fee is a plus. According to server/vps informatio…

After ten years in operation we've amassed a fairly large database (3 gigs, about five minutes to dump the whole thing) as well as a massive number of images that span literally every version of IP.Board (which means they are stored in like ten different ways depending on IP.Board version, attachment versus Gallery, profile photos, avatars, etc. etc. etc.) Since the vast majority of the site is more-or-less static (an image uploaded ten years ago is unlikely to change...) and since we pay for bandwidth to our offsite storage, I'd like to develop an incremental backup strategy. This is especially important for the uploads/ directory, which is massive, but ideally I'd lov…

Does anyone have experience with hosting their IPB in a cloud configuration versus a shared or dedicated server? Do you see any reason that an active IPB couldn't be run in a cloud environment? Could I/O be an issue? Thanks for your thoughts. Jeff

Hello! So I got my IPB3 forum running on a dedicated server with following configuration: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2 GB DDR2 RAM 2x 300 GB SATA HDD (Software-RAID 1) Software is Debian 5.0 Lenny 64 bit with nginx+Apache+php+eAccelerator+MySQL. MySQL database it around 1.6 Gb with around 500k posts and 10k users. We got up to 4k visitors daily getting up to 25k pageviews. It has been working more or less OK until past few days, but now the server looks as it has gone totally fubar. Load average sometimes gets around 50-100, users keep geting timeout errors, host-tracker.com reports uptime of ~73% for today. Rebooting apache and/or the server itself helps for a wh…

We had an old system at work for handling lots of different API's built into an old custom framework which was huge and nothing to do with API's... so a waste of time really. Anyways I built a custom framework using a few core files, php-activerecord and memcache. The whole thing is running on apache and these are my benchmarks so far: 1020ms~ on the old framework 200ms~ on the new framework 60ms~ with memcache. I was really pleased with these results and ran concurrent tests using apache 100 requests with 100 concurrants and it came back in 2000ms~ (this was not with memcache). Thats a total of 10,000 requests. So I was happy with that. I think it was a number…

Am seriously considering a switch to cPanel on my servers. As an admin / user what do you dislike about the control panel - what annoys you? Or maybe life is perfect? :) As it is a major move, I am interested in honest views.

We moved to a VPS and the index.php file in the root directory of the board is always causing a high CPU usage. Is there anything that can help bring that down?
