burm Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Post Cache - What does everyone have theirs set at? I think the default is 7 days, but is there any harm in making it 30,60 or ever 180 days to speed things up? The Post cache gets regenerated if there is a new post added anyways correct? Thanks
ThatForumGuy Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I am curious about this myself. Right now my board is set at the default settings.
ThatForumGuy Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Ok, I got a response from Support on this: Me: "What is the longest recommended setting for Post Cache? I know the default is 7, but I am wondering if it wouldn't improve my board performance if I increased this pretty dramatically. I am using memcached, and the cache is currently tiny, and I have plenty of extra ram available." Support: "It can really be any value.. I wouldn't think you'd want to get more than about 100k posts in the cache. So, you can adjust the settings appropriately. But, if a topic isn't read in more than 7 days, it's removed from the cache. You generally only want the often-accessed topics in the cache.. Because, what's the point in caching a topic that is only accessed once a month?"
burm Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 It still gets hit by google, so why not have it cached up for the bots so that the speed faster.. We all know by now your google ranking is also effected (very) slightly by the speed / performance of your site. And if you have the space / memory, why not? Thanks for asking support too... Maybe I'll make the setting 30 days and see how it goes.
