The message posted by staff when potentially unlicensed people try and get support has links that go to out of date pages. Wasn't too sure where to post this... I have a few ideas that I think would be beneficial for IP.subscriptions though. Coupon Codes This would work like coupon codes you see at any major retailer. A code that would take a certain percentage off a package, or knock it down to a certain price. For simplicity sake, you could just enter a set amount the coupon code reduces the price to. Promotional Things Perhaps an option where someone could get a subscription free for 30 days, or a coupon code that does this? Here's the idea behind this idea. I was thinking about printing out some promotional info on my new site I'm working on to give out at events. These would ha…

Hey Guys! I've just started a new community and importet TONS of current and old customers into the IPB Database. Therefore i have TONS of users that never logged in or posted. I'd like to see an option to hide those members in a) the members listings b) the board statistics Once such a user logs in for the first time, he's been shown in the sections memtioned above. Thanks! -Daniel

I was discussing forum software with my friend, as he is starting a forum and I recommended IPB to him (of course). Later on (after having the board setup and working) he found out that vBulletin boards are not permitted on his host. So my question to you is, do you allow the end user to run a website using vBulletin software on your hosting packages? I thought it was an interesting rule, and I don't think anyone has ever stopped to ask this before. I understand everyone has their differences / opinions towards the difference forum software companies out there, but I would like to know this.

I want to know if anyone has hosted IP.board on a grid-style host? My current host, while inexpensive and overflowing with bandwidth and space, is a one-server, many sites hosting company, and my site with IP.board v3 is running slow there. I'd like to know if anyone is using a grid or other distributed style host and how they perform. any thoughts?

A possible feature in the next version? It would be nice for admin to have abilitty, when he creates a new forum to mark this with an icon "new", also setting the period of time displaying to public that icon, or/and to set on/off displaying "new" icon. It's very handy for the public to see and find fast trough the icon "new", the recent created forums from board. Thank you! Best regards!

Okay, so, I just registered my first IP Board, and I was wondering if there was anyway that it could be made into an IPB 2 board, rather than 3? It's not that I particularly dislike IPB 3, I just prefer 2 :) Anyway, I was wondering if there's an option in the ACP once my board is activated or anything like that? I doubt it, but it's worth asking. Thanks ^_^

After looking at the demo, we bit on purchasing IPB two weeks ago. Our staff installed the application on a sandbox and within a week's time had determined that while IPB is a solid product, the core files do not suit our project. We inquired about a refund policy and were informed that there was none. We are now the proud owner of a $150 forum application that will likely never be used. Double check, triple check and quadruple check everything before you purchase. There's no turning back.

I have a lot of private messages aka conversations, 3849 to be precise, and i want to delete some that have certain word in their title. So issues regarding this matter are: 1. When i use "Search Messages" it is loading a looooooot of time. Only sometimes it opens a page with page load time less then 0.8sec, in other cases it is around 34sec. 2. There is now way for me to sort those messages. They are sorted in some weird fashion. When i search for this word i get 3 pages with results, on 3rd page at top are newest messages, but it would be logical for them to be on 1st page. 3. There is no way for me to select all those messages and just delete them. I would …

Podcasting Module?
by Guest ChrisA- 9 replies

A few members of my community are interested in setting up podcasts, and I was just thinking this morning about what would be required to create a community podcast site. I was initially thinking of creating my own webap from scratch, but it's just struck me that with InvisionBoard (especially v2.1) and InvisionBlog, you guys have the essentials pretty much in place already. The Blog module would obviously provide the main basis for the implementation as it would allow the podcasters to maintain their own kind of 'minisite' for their podcasts. The main changes on this side I can think of are that some changes would need to be made to the RSS export so Podcast software…

I really dont see the point of not parsing url's and emoticons in comments on profile page's. :) So i would sugest that you make comments on profile pages more like posts in topics or comments on IP.Content pages where if you put this: You would get this: :) http://www.invisionpower.com/ :) http://www.invisionpower.com/

Vbulletin will resize image attachments to maximum dimensions specified in the admin. Whether attachments are displayed as thumbnails or full sized is also configurable. Of all the issues I had related to user dissatisfaction with the switch from VB to IPB, the biggest was related to these lack of options for image attachments in IPB. I am currently looking at moving a clients site to IPB but I don't think he's going to go for it without these options. I think you will hear a lot of this from all our new Vbulletin refugees.

Hello friends. I started preperations for upgrading my forum to 3.0.x I tried on my localhost, upgrading was sucessful and unfortunately there occured special character problems(Turkish characters are shown as question marks). I need to convert my database completely to utf-8 but there is no script i found. It is possible to make it manully via MYSQL queries but it is a nightmare to do it on my 1,5 GB database. Is IPS planing to make a simple and effective database charset convertor plugin/hook/tool like vBulletin and Wordpress have?

I'm speeding up my server, and was cross referencing executed queries per unique page @ total users to the server load, and found that in most instances (Index, Forum View, Topic View, Downloads (Index, Category, File) View, Members) the executed query count has a highest value of 20 (at least on my installation). Now, I understand that the # changes for each forum/topic, etc. but 95% of the time, nothing goes above 20 queries, except private conversations viewing goes above a whopping 70. Is there any way that it can be loaded with less queries?

Hello, I searched around, but couldn't find answers to these questions. I believe both are easy to do, but i am new to this product, would be glad if you could help. 1) Is it possible to enable HTML for calendar items? If so, how? 2) If we have 2 or more calendars, is it possible to show ALL items belonging to all calendars at the same time on the main calendar window (when calendar link is clicked on the home page)? Thanks

I use this link: Today's Active Content Which in my opinion seems buried at the bottom of the main forum index. And not visible anywhere else as a link on other pages. I'd rather have that at the top left in lieu of "View New Content" from what i can tell has many in uproar over the feature. Once there it shows all the entries the tabs then displayed are Help Files | Forums | Members | Blogs | Calendar | Gallery | Customer Resources | Community Downloads Now if I perform a Quick Search the results page shows the order of the tabs as... Forums | Members | Help Files | Blogs | Calendar | Gallery | Customer Resources | Community Downloads The tabs should remain…

Is it possible to include a new hook in IPB to show "Recently Added Posts" similar to the "Recently Added Topics" view on the index page? Ted.

When users enter wrong password 5 times their accounts get locked out. But it never shows to him that his account is locked for 15 mins or for how many minutes board admin chooses. I think board should at least show him how many attempts he still can make before his account get locked. Sometimes people just keep trying and trying but they never realize after 3 wrong trials there account is locked. Would also like to suggest new feature that if more then 3 fail attempts are made user would received e-mail from which IP those 3 attempts are made on the email which is associated to his account. I looked all the way but was not able to find that feature. If it is alr…

I was thinking it would be a good idea to be able to have a stats page that includes people's custom profile field info. Obviously that would be only possible when there is a list for them to choose from, but it would still be great. An example of this would be if I added a custom profile field asking what was their favourite colour and given them a dropdown list to choose from which allowed them to choose from black, blue, green and yellow. The stats would then say something like: "50 of you like black, 30 of you like blue, 27 of you like green and 96 of you like yellow. Possibly even a graph to show it? Anyone with me on this or know whether it would be possible as …

I have been perusing thru the forums here and feel that the site organization is a bit frustrating. There are several boards for the same product but in a different category: IPS Company Feedback -> IP.Board Peer-To-Peer Technical Support -> IP.Board Product Modifications -> IP.Board Tracker -> IP.Board Although I appreciate that it is grouped by General area topic then by specific product when researching or reviewing the product it would be most helpful to have all forums for that product in one section. It would be great if there were a way to create an Alias of forums and categories so that you could group existing content and not have to …

When you're in a topic and you choose the topic moderation option to delete that topic, you not only get a javascript prompt asking you to confirm this, but upon accepting that you go to a second page where you have to once again confirm you want to delete the topic. Did folks have a problem with the old way, where you only got one confirmation screen? The new way seems like overkill to me.

One of the few things I enjoy about Craigslist is the community "flagging" feature used there. (most either love it or hate it) For example on IPB, permitted usergroups can "flag" a topic or post, after X amount of flags the topic/post is automatically set into moderation que and report issued to all applicable mods. An extra setting to control amount of flags issued per group, similar to rep system would be even better. Doesn't seem to be a huge implementation, seems it would bolt nicely to the IPB moderation logic. I have 2 mods that handle a relatively well behaved community of 11,000, but when a spammer gets on board, we usually recieve multiple reports before…
