Was just checking out vB today.... $150 for Installation. IPS does it free. The new licensing for 4.0 does not even come with ticket support! Thats another $80 a year. IPS installs forums for free (I never knew this was a free service until earlier today!) and gives support included with the license purchase. IPS has customer service nailed.... if only they could hire 2 or 3 more people to take care of the new customers and surge of support needs. :whistle:

UPDATE: Hello, Just noticed that Neowin.net had to revert downgrade back to IP.Board 2.3.6 from 3.0.5 to isolate issues upgrading to the latest version. Do to some major problems regarding server scaling, Made from Apache I believe (arrest me if I am wrong.). Neowin.net is the 7th largest forums ranked in Big-Boards using IP.Board. With over 8.000.000 posts and 200.000 members. I beg the question, isn't IP.Board made to scale good enough for large boards? (This is just a question to create a discussion.) Diskusjon.no is the second largest forum in Norway which run IP.Board, which I have been an active member with over 10.000 posts, is planing an upgrade to IP…

Please improve the search of the Localization Manager: (1) It would be great if you could search for a word packet that contains ONLY the searched phrase in the default value or standard value. That would lighten certain jobs enormously ... (2) Enable a search restrained to certain areas - just the blog, just the admin CP etc.

Have you noticed almost every board that upgrades to 3.0 is suffering from a downturn in visits, lack of activity on the forums compared to previous, forum members not understanding why they made such a change. Well I have, well I can't say every one for sure but I've kept an eye on more than 30 forums that have upgraded and not a single upgrade has been successful. This has only been a problem since the move to 3.0, and the totally unspiring skin all forum owners have had to try and work with. After the helpful responses in [url=" thread, I've decided to switch to IP.Board soon. There are a few tweaks I'll have to make manually, but I'm hoping they become default features in the near future to save me some upgrade headache so everyone else can benefit from them too. Bring Back Automated Forumjump On IP.Board 2.3.x and vbulletin 2-4, the forumjump automatically switches to the forum you select. For some reason, the 3.0.x forumjump requires clicking "Go" first. Okay I know that by editing a file I could change the number of topics to display for the "recent topics" block, but really, should it be necessary to edit the file? Also, would be nice to be able to select which forums it draws the topics from without modifying the "View New Posts" block setting. Would like to be able to decide how it's shown (topic names only, date/time optional, author optional, etc) More or less a new hook to do the same thing but a bit more admin friendly.

I've thought about this a few times before. I wonder if there should be an option added to hide the language chooser (especially if you only have one language anyway) , I know you can simply skin it out ;) , in fact I've added a quick article on doing this for 3.0. (as I have done for other versions at the time), but the same thing could be said for the skin chooser too, and there is an option to disallow anyone (easily, at least) choosing skins by hiding it. I'm merely thinking along the lines of tidiness as with only one language present, it does not appear serve a real purpose as far as I can tell. :)

While I have a feeling this is a fruitless endeavor, I cannot help but post this in hopes that someone will have an answer to this that will not involve "start over, that's all you can do." I was on an invision powered message board, and one of the members requested she be removed, due to feeling the board wasn't somewhere she wanted to be anymore, and following that, began to cause havoc. Some black hatters are continuously pinging my forums in hope of getting a back link. I guess some automated script or doorway page with urls like- At times this overloads my server and I am also bit worried of a search engine penalty. I am sure spammers would be targeting other IPB forums as well. 1. Can I remove the meta identifier-url ? how ? 2. will it effect the functionality in any way ?

One of my users pointed out an interesting issue regarding "invisible" users. They show up in the chat, of course, but they don't show up in the "Who's Chatting" hook at the bottom of the forum index. If someone is chatting, they're not really browsing the board anonymously, so I'd much prefer to have them show up in the "Who's Chatting" hook. Otherwise it gives the impression that the chat isn't as busy as it might be (depending on how many "invisible" users are in the chat room). It could very well appear that nobody is chatting when in fact five people are in the chat room. ..Al

I like IPB, but find it strange that you cen not embed video's into the post, the media button only allows a limited selection of media files. Also a option to give permissions to certain admins to see who can see other users IP address, as when you start a forum from scratch, you need to make up 50 or so members to make it look active, once it grown, the other new moderators can see you have 50 users under the same IP which can cause problems if he bans the IP along with you also.

There are lot of guests on my board and lot of IP addresses. I wanto to know from which countries they are. I cannot check every IP (I am not mad) but little national flag next to every IP address would be very appreciated. Or national code.

Even thought I send in a support ticket I post here that IPS in overal is a good company to work with but you realy should get a grip on your billing manager. Several times I have to search my paypal account after the transaction details and prove I own the product that is no longer in my account or I get to renew the product for the price as if its a new product. It makes me that I'm always alert as what is happening with my account here at IPB, doesn't get me a relaxed feeling at all. Exited to try the new IP.Gallery but will just have to wait till it's being re-added to my account again.

Should IPS implement a more extensive workaround into parsing usernames using the group prefix/suffic values? So names that appear in the shoutbox may appear elsewhere. If yes/no, should it be optional? So that users may turn it on and off at will, making it a more customizable feature? :)

Every 3 months I search for any members who have ZERO posts and have not signed in for the past 365 days. I send them an email stating that I will be deleting their account within 7 days, then once those seven days have passed.....I delete anyone who still meets that criteria.
