getstuff4less
I notice that one can log-in on certain sites w/ their facebook login, using the APIs. I would consider a mod that allows one to log-in using the aforementioned, but then take it a step further...register them on our site. You already have lots of information you can call using the APIs..i.e. username, location, e-mail?, etc...It would present a simple screen llike this: Log-in using your facebook or twitter account! Username Pass Sign-in once Then it has a checkbox that say something like: Would you like to register on FORUMS? Please answer these three questions form. What do you see? CAPACHA here.. Q2 Q3 Register Plus, imagine a user signs-in using twitter, then posts a deal. You have a check-box before they click post that sayS: Post to twiiter? You then have a linked topic w/title on that site. Yes, it will be more work on invision's end, but IMO this will increase registrations/sign-in IMO..Anyways, it's an idea... What do you guys think? Mat Barrie
You aren't allowed to do what you are asking. Facebook demands that if you allow a user to log in via Facebook Connect, you may not then subject them to any further questions. That means you aren't allowed to ask for an email, aren't allowed to pop up a CAPTCHA, and you aren't allowed to store their user data that Facebook passed you for more than 24 hours without either deleting or refreshing it. Ultimately, this is why Facebook Connect sucks.

bfarber
Yahoo and Google do not have the same issues, no. IPB already supports OpenID login functionality, which Yahoo and Google both support as well (as providers), so users can already login with their Yahoo or Google account using the OpenID option (though they'd need to know their yahoo/google openid url). I may be wrong, but that requires usrs to geister for openid does it not? I wonder if one can get around the facebook rules by asking the questions before... You can google it though (google openid, yahoo openid). I can't see how you'd ask questions of a user before they put in their details, but I imagine it breaks the *spirit* of the rules Facebook has imposed, so it would probably still be frowned upon. ;)
Zepher
I noticed that the NBA app on TNT for live basketball stats has a connect button that opens a communtiy app and uses: Myspace Facebook Twitter Yahoo They ask to "Log into your network and join the discussion" Seems like more apps are bypassing the signup/login process for openID's and "social networks" for quick login.... So someone would have to join up as a regular member but after that, could associate their account with a FB account and then use that to sign in. That would be one way to get certain information without violating FB's rules. That and I think it'd provide more security since someone couldn't use multiple FB accounts to create multiple forum accounts. Question, as I haven't tried this. If someone registers on the board using FBC, are they then able to dis-associate that account with their FB account? If so, couldn't they potentially use one FB account to create multiple accounts?
