identifier-url abuse

Some black hatters are continuously pinging my forums in hope of getting a back link.
I guess some automated script or doorway page with urls like-

http://community.inv.../www.google.com

At times this overloads my server and I am also bit worried of a search engine penalty.
I am sure spammers would be targeting other IPB forums as well.

1. Can I remove the meta identifier-url ? how ?
2. will it effect the functionality in any way ?

Whether we remove the identifier url or not won't change the traffic being sent to your server. You might want to look into who is attacking your site and block them.

For instructions on altering code you should use the peer to peer forum. I can say there's no setting to turn it off, and that it won't harm your site in any way (modifying the code to not set this).

I am getting unwanted traffic because spammers are exploiting the identifier url.

If you follow the below link and check the source "www.sex-porn.com" appears 5 times and every possibility of being flagged by search engine or ad network.

No, no chance a search engine will give any consideration to that. Basically, they'll only consider the base URL. In your example, the base URL is "http://community.invisionpower.com/" - which is what I'd expect. Basically, IPS could change it but it would achieve exactly nothing. You would still receive the traffic.

Sadly most spammers are too thick to understand that.Over blackhat forums spammers are sharing lists of sites to ping and even automated ways to do that.

IF my forum is on such a list the pings will eventually kill the server, And sooner or later other IPB forums may also show up on such lists.
(quite possibly they already are )

I believe that is his theory, but I fail to see how it will help at all - if they're actually sending you traffic simply because your forum spits out the URL by which the page is accessed as a meta tag, then they're stupid enough to continue doing it when your forum stops spitting out the URL by which the page was accessed.
