I've used VB for a while now, as a user and an admin. 7 years, maybe. A friend of mine switched over to IPB some time back, and it took me a long time to get used to his forum. IPB has a very unique look and feel, and it was just different than VB and phpBB. When starting a new forum, I decided to make the switch myself. Man, I'm blown away. I'm still learning, and still on the curve, but wow. Compare the adminCP of VB and IPB. No contest. I can find my way around and it has a nice, professional, appealing look. I'm pretty happy I made the switch. I'll agree with another recent thread: update the emoticons. LOL. But I'm happy as can be.

I have an observation after converting from SMF to IPB. As you might know, SMF doesn't have a "Personal Photo" feature; however IPB uses this feature quite prominently. Upon converting, I have noticed that I have 50,000 profiles with the following: Obviously without a personal photo to convert, the converter can't do anything about it, but it might be nice to have the option to disable the personal photo feature, and utilize the avatar feature instead. Thoughts on this? Or any suggestions on combating this default photo problem? :)

Google has created a new image format http://googlecode.blogspot.com/2010/09/webp-new-image-format-for-web.html which allows images to be smaller without quality loss. It would be great if Invision Power was the first to include this new technology with the forum software. There's a converter that you can use to change the images. I would love to see all the images on IP.B converted to the new format.

Hi, I like IPB, but there is something very weird about it that makes me want to pull my hair: It's how IPB deals with permissions in its theme. For example, if I want to disable the search for guests, they still see it but will get an error messages whenever they try to use it. Why is it shown in the first place? If I don't have permission to use something, why do I still see it? It's the same weirdness for bbcode; if I disable some codes for users, they still see the code and use it! It will even appear in the post as is "example: ". This problem affects everything in IPB! Moderators options such as

Through searching I've read people asking for IPboard to handle the way it does bad word filtering a little differently. Currently it filters words before going into the database which leaves the original record edited. I was hoping at one point to recommend IPboard to the enterprise I work for that I've managed a few boards for. The way IPboard filters words would make the recommendation get thrown out real fast. From a legal standpoint we have to keep unedited original copies of all posts that happen in the forums. Without them we have no solid evidence in dealing with employee situations. On some sites I saw that when users try to connect with FB, it will open in a lightbox similar to FB. The same would also apply for other social buttons like digg, twitter, fb share etc. I think it should be the default "feature" in IPB3, and only opens new tab/window if js is disabled. Also noticed that when FB connect is enabled, guests won't be able to see the FB like button in topics. Uncool

Rules 1 and 11 are somewhat redundant. Number 12 isn't really a rule, but more of a reminder. If something is a rule, there's no reason to say please. Then above you have the non-numbered rules that have many that conflict with each other.

I just completed the purchase of IPB board licenses # 32 and #33. :) I've been using this software since 2005 due to: Consistent updates, great support, software stability and a great community that ties it all together. There are some sites in our system that still use competing products, no names mentioned (VB), but we'll be migrating away from those in the future. If you're thinking about IPB, do it - you will be happy. :wub:

Hi I'd like to ask why do we have My Settings as an Option on the Top Menu and on the "Signed In As..." Its there in two places. My members were wondering where the Messenger Link has Gone. Clicking on Just a Number at the top, is not IMHO the easiest way to show it. Why couldn't MY SETTINGS on the Top Menu, become the Messenger Link. Also, having a way down at the bottom, the link for "Todays Active Content", seems a bit out of the way. Many members think that is poor design. Couldn't that be on the "Signed In As.." part, or could not both of these be on the Member Menu. How difficult is it to put things on the Members Menu. If it was easy, then couldn't we be…

Hello Everybody. I must ask for an immediate modification. I've opened several threads about but this is a global one that includes all the problem that need a rapid solution. 1. The Pop-Up notification window: is confusing, its layout is totally different from the previous one, my users like the previous that was readable and it was with no margin from the top. Ok so I know if you have it setup in your preferences you can receive notification when you get quoted... But I'd like a way of tagging members in topics kinda like the twitter @twitter... and then they get a notification (if they turn it on) but make it so if I type @Matt it automatically creates a link to Matt's profile and then if he has those notifications on gets a notification that he's been tagged.So basically kinda like a super BBCode on crack. Or even something like if you stated their full display name then it tagged them if you didn't want to steal the twitter @ since a BBCode already exists with that.

Unfortunately team icons are board based and not skin based - crazy isn't it? If you install some nice team icons, they show up in all of your installed skins, but they may not match the appearance of all those skins. Imagine some nice Christmas skin themed team icons looking rather odd when viewed by someone who is using a non-Christmas skin, or white/bright team icons from a white/bright skin showing up automatically on a black skin. So my suggestion is to make team icons a folder in the skin images. :rolleyes:

I'll tell you what! this new 3.1.2 version is just brilliant... As some of you will know i was having problems upgrading from 3.0.5 what with one thing or another, but with the assistance of IPS staff i got upgraded and since then things have just gone up a level for us at spiritcharms. Membership for some reason had started to fall off, but since this new board we are getting on average two members a day joining up, probably because of the viral effect of facebook connect, and sharing and of course the like button, which all works perfectly. So just barely I logged into the support forums using a standard login method (typing) and it threw a facebook error saying the session could not be initialized when I didn't even try to initialize one.

I'm moving my forum from 3.0.5 to 3.1.2, but I see that quite a few bugs have been fixed for 3.1.3 and I may wait for it if it's right around the corner. 3.1.2 was released two months ago, so I'm curious if I could get a rough idea on when to expect 3.1.3. Thanks, ..Al

Just thought I would throw an idea into the mix! How about making custom versions of your IPhone application? e.g. I am thinking along the lines of having a version of the IPhone Application that is branded as per the community it is locked to rather than allowing the user to select the community. It's good to be able say you can use an IPhone application to access the site but its even better to say you can use MY IPhone application to access the site. I know this has many drawbacks from a code management perspective etc but I always figure If you don't ask then you won't get!

I've been a member of a few sites that use VB as their forum. There is a feature that I really like in VB. Like us, we have subforums, but we do not have subforum categories. So you go the main index of the site category forum 1 forum 2 I would love to see the subforum work exactly like the index where we got subforum category subforum 1 subforum 2 I think it would look a bit more organized if we had this option. There still should be an option for the people whom don't need it. Some forums can go really deep in subforums because of this.

I would like an official php protocol to upload images or make status updates from an external program. For example, my program could have a button to upload a screenshot of what the user is doing, and it would just capture the screen contents and upload it to their account automatically, if they have entered their username and password in the program options.

Ive been with IPB now some time and i think its the best forum software around,,, This new version though 3.1.xx i believe is going to cause people lots of problems because all of a sudden its gone from needing 64m server memory to at least 128... Memory Limit: 128M or better recommended Your memory limit: 64M.
