AlexWebsites got a reaction from Maxxius in Highlight : SEO Plugin > avoid Google Panda penalty
Is there currently a way to see how many topics would be affected with various word count settings? I would almost prefer to see a plugin that shows you topics that are an issue.

AlexWebsites reacted to Clover13 in How to embed MOV files?
Still the same download links for MOV, as others have stated with the reasoning as to why. Video is obviously an important element of forum posting nowadays, unfortunately this is a caveat for users and discourages them from posting movies when they don't get the auto-embedding.
Has anyone figured out how to auto-upload to your site's YouTube channel when a video file is uploaded, then replacing/embedding that YouTube link instead? Would be nice from a lot of perspectives: comprehensive video processing, externalized storage (not tanking your host storage or S3, etc).

AlexWebsites got a reaction from The Old Man in Redis caching not improving performance - it's worse
I disagree although I could be wrong...really depends on traffic, so if you get a 100 visitors in a minute, 1 visitor will get a fresh loaded page and the rest will get cached output.

Same here on all my sites

Cloudflare. Free plan with great firewall rules works fine for me. I use centmin mod and he has cloudflare integration. It works well.

It isn't purely Apple users, it's down to what software you have installed on your PC. For example if a Windows user had Quicktime or the Quicktime Codec installed (via VLC player etc) they would also be able to render the video in the web browser.
This is correct, transcoding video is quite an intensive process that most web hosts won't have the required server software installed to do (yes, we know customers that run their own server can install ffmpeg, but generally it isn't on the majority of customer systems, so yes a 3rd party API would be the ideal solution). You cannot however easily transcode a video in a web browser with HTML5/Javascript. I would recommend reading a post Matt made recently 🙂

Glad to hear. I use Cloudflare, what was the actual issue and fix?

AlexWebsites got a reaction from SeNioR- in (.webp) images support
No idea, had server management install it a while ago. Whatever default settings are, that’s what I’m using. Probably could tweak, but haven’t.

AlexWebsites reacted to opentype in How do I obtain the checkout subscription link?
<a href='{url="app=nexus&module=subscriptions&controller=subscriptions&do=purchase&id=3" csrf="true"}'>Take Me to Cart</a> Only works in templates. That’s what the support meant.

I'm currently serving webp mages on all my IPS sites using mod_pagespeed.

Been running Mod_pagespeed for a couple years through various IPS version with no issues I’m aware of. What type of feedback are you looking for? Mod_Pagespeed is an Apache module.

AlexWebsites got a reaction from sobrenome in 4.5 and Video Attachments
Would be nice to have better video upload ability for users and automatic conversion and such. Back in the day I used to used FFMPEG but it was never as good as the mainstream video platforms and people nowadays default to uploading to youtube and other "large" platforms. I would be interested in cloudflare streaming even if it was a third party app for a video gallery. I'd like to see something like where if a user posts a video to a topic or other area, it embeds it within the post/comment, but lives in the gallery or a video section and not as an attachment. Even for images that get attached, something during the upload process to also add it to gallery at the same time.

AlexWebsites got a reaction from PrettyPixels in Add subscriptions page to registration process
Please consider adding the subscriptions page to the registration process without forcing users to purchase a subscription.
Maybe after quick registration (via IPS or social connect), redirect the member to the subscription page to view available subscriptions and a link below the packages to continue without subscribing (similar to products). Maybe a plugin can do this by a developer.
Right now, I see no way of building in subscriptions during the registration process without forcing users to pick a package. But then if you offer a free membership, you need to create package for this which might not be the best solution at $0.00.

I support this 100%
I would love for this to be included somehow on the registration page.

AlexWebsites got a reaction from Andy Millne in Connections (Support Topic)
This looks really good. When do you anticipate to have geographic location and how will you incorporate that? Woud be nice to have some sort of IP matching behind the scenes. Would also be great if you could get it working with

AlexWebsites reacted to SC36DC in 4.5 Favorite Topic List
Would you also agree that this would be an incredible feature to have built in to the forum? I think it would be amazing. Such a small but significant feature would make a big difference. I really get worried of the idea of having to install so many plugins knowing at any moment the developer could decide to stop supporting or updating the plugin, not to mention the possibilities of plugins conflicting with each other and causing errors and breaking the forums functionality.
I do hope one day this feature gets added by IPS.

I do wish IPS shared a roadmap of planned features, but can understand why they don't.

I noticed that you cache output for guests at 15 minutes. I have that setting at 1 minute on one site and 30 seconds on another.

AlexWebsites got a reaction from sobrenome in Amazon SES API For Sending Mail
I'm going to hold off getting this plugin developed to see if functionality will be added to 4.5. I wasn't able to get an answer from IPS support either way, which now forces me to just wait and see I guess. On smaller things like this, it would be nice to know what's planned and what is not on a roadmap. Used to be where feature suggestions were tagged as "planned" or not, which was nice.

AlexWebsites reacted to GTServices in Best forms of advertising?
Most ad partners will just approve your domains across the board (unless one is against TOS). I haven't run into any issues with ad partners approving domains and I've been doing this for a long time.
For the most part, you will use key-values to target specific forums/pages on your site. This is usually associated with Direct Sales. eg. someone wants to target your ABC, MNO, and XYZ forums on your site. Key-values allows you to do just that.
Placements are not required.

AlexWebsites reacted to GTServices in Best forms of advertising?
I'm sorry. I missed this.
You can target via key-values.
eg. url = domain.com
eg. url = /this-is-a-specific-page/
eg. page = "This is a specific page title"
Yes, I use sizeMapping.
