Absolutely - and we did this with a compromise. Make a preview tool available for those few customers who have valid edge cases, without adding Yet Another Button in a prominent location for all our other customers. Every extra button or toggle we add to a page increases the complexity for users a little bit more, mostly unnecessarily. We try to consider all users and balance functionality with simplicity as much as we can.

Oh, come on! Can you misrepresent Rikki’s answer any more? What he provided was a reasoning for the current placement. Nothing more, nothing less.  
They are both. A software where popular vote decides the way it works, not the provider’s careful considerations of feedback and goals, would be a huge, terrible mess. 

I am just curious: since the editor is WYSIWYG what is your use case for preview? It's something I never did "get" personally 🙂

Honestly, I wonder why people who use IPS are seemingly obsessed with emulating or trying to improve upon Facebook, etc. - to me, the biggest "threat" are sites like Reddit when it comes to IPS-driven sites.

There's a few barriers here.
The technical: to allow 'stories' to be posted, you'll need a fair bit of storage for the videos, you'll also need a queued system to take in raw video and transcribe it into a more friendly and compressed format which is beyond the reach for most self-hosted sites.

The strategic. No one comes here to see what I'm up to. They come here for help with their Invision Communities, or they come here to post advice for others, or to learn how to manage their communities.

Forums are discussion led platforms. The discussion is the star.
Social media are people led platforms. The person is the star.

Allowing random members to upload stories about what they're doing and so on cross-circuits the purpose of a discussion led platform.

Social media is great at being social medial. Forums are great at being forums.

Yes - you as the admin decide the size to use for new embeds 
They use the default that is provided to them.

This is not something that comes part of the software and would need to be done outside by yourself, hosting provider or a knowledgeable party that you work with.
A warning I can provide is that your current URL includes "/forum" and this is also a reserved FURL in our software so need to be mindful of that as you're writing these redirects.

For push notifications on iPhone, you need an app downloadable from the App Store. There's no way to push notifications to iPhones in any other way.

Increase the seconds, remove from guests, etc. This plugin does nothing more than update the list via ajax call to list X last topics sorted by replies, using IPS framework built-in methods (getItemsWithPermission). Nothing bizarre or out of IPS pattern is there.
Test it for a day or two and let me know via PM if you want to be refunded. 

The new thing these days is Responsive Font Sizes (the font size adjusts to the kind of display/viewport you are on) - frameworks like Bootstrap are starting to incorporate them.
Also, on your mobile device, you should be able to increase the font size globally (and I would think the browser/website would honor that as well?)...

I think the fact that IPS is themable negates the need for a "dark mode" which is popular with apps today. Perhaps if IPS provided a dark version of the default theme...
If an application-level dark mode was implemented, then theme creators would have to support it with dark mode CSS for their themes - which raises the question - would an already dark theme go reverse in dark mode (e.g., light mode)? 😀

There are some larger forums (businesses in their own right) that probably wouldn't have an issue paying $$$ for a feature that important these days.

Only for the first visit - whereas using data:image means it's being downloaded on every page view. For a single icon (like your menu bars example) I'd agree that's the best approach, and that's what I do on my personal projects normally, but when we're using dozens of different icons in hundreds of places, it doesn't make sense.
That said, web development is always moving forward, so when our next major update begins, we'll evaluate the best approach at that point.

For a HiDPI or "retina" display logo, you need to make the logo at 2x pixels so on those devices it will display sharper.
Googling "how to make retina-ready images" should provide some tutorials.

There are no plans to do anything about the whitespace in the display template. If you really don’t like it, you are free to not use the SuperGrid display template and just switch to the default one for just the display view. 
The site shown last is a good example. The layout actually creates a very good column width, which improves the legibility significantly – making the articles easier to read than long texts in this fluid forum for example. So it’s a feature, not a bug. I won’t compromise on such matters of legibility. I won’t make things worse, not even when I’m asked to. 

with pagination it would refresh the pages each time etc, the way it is now it don't need a page refresh / change, I could look into other ways to display them though

members can report comics etc so if they are signed in they will see a report comic link where they can send through a report to admins / mods and it will show up in the ModCP, also you can make it so all uploads require approval so if someone uploads a comic it will be hidden until approved by a moderator

Does it have a DMCA takedown button for the inevitable requests people will get when their users start uploading illegal content? 😆
I know I'm being facetious with that statement, but really - there should be a way for people to report inappropriate content/copyright issues to the site owner or Mods and remove the content until reviewed.

I think IPS should have its own SVG-based (or custom icon font) icon set for the default forum theme, and allow theme creators to specify their own or a library like FontAwesome (again, either SVG or icon font).
