Saving admin workload, nick or email login

We gets loads of request from users who have forgotten their nick, and it's time consuming to go via ACP to search for their email address. Why not make login procedure a choice between nick OR email address? As it is now you have to choose between one of them. Also, why can't you be directly logged into the forum when clicking the link in the validation mail? Or at least arrive at a dedicated page that tells you that the validation was successful and asks you to log in. The way it works now can be pretty confusing. I know because I get all the emails from people who think that their validation was unsuccessful... :unsure:

Printed Manuals?

I seem to remember something being posted a while back that the documentation for products (IP.Board, IP.Nexus etc) may be printed and bound and then shipped to customers who'd be willing to pay for it. Was there ever a concrete decision made on this? Obviously it's not the most pressing thing in the world, it'd just be nice to know. :)

For his avatar, a member may upload or "enter a URL to an online avatar image" (such as photobucket). Why is there no such option for profile images (upload only)?

I think it is unreal that we can edit so many things to help correct and fix our members usernames, passwords, profiles, settings, email addresses, display names and everything else in the world, but if they can't figure out how to upload their own profile photo or avatar, then we can't help them with that unless we go through manually resizing the photo, then FTPing into the server and searching for the location to upload it to, then uploading it, then going into their profile and naming the photo's location so it will appear. That's crazy to have to do all that when there should be the same features in the admin section that the members have so that we can quickly and …

ACP Restrictions.

So, I was just playing with the ACP Restrictions, and I found something. When a person who has only limited access to the ACP moves another member into any Admin group, the person they moved has full ACP access without any restrictions. Surely that's just an oversight? It'd be nice if anybody the restricted user moves into the Admin group inherits their permissions, like when adding a new member directly to the group. See what I'm saying?

Well i installed IP.Converge smoothly, importing of the members and setting went well, but my host requires me to have the $INFO['safe_mode']='1'; set to 1, in the conf_global.php. I wanted to know why Converge can't be run in safe mode. If i attempt to run my board or converge in safe mode, the cache files aren't written. I tried adding $INFO['safe_mode']='1'; to the conf_global.php in the admin dir, but it returned an "IPS Driver Error". I have little IPB experience, since i made the switch from SMF. Can someone please help? As i said Converge looks impressive! I plan to create a community (promoting Converge) and linking gaming clan boards together. :thumbsup: P.…

Nesting Foreach

I love that fact that the new IPB 2.2 has the ability to nest if statements. What I don't like is that it can't nest foreach statements. Sure it's good for simple arrays, but when you get into multi-dimensional arrays it's useless. I've noticed that the new "ifs" don't use "if" anymore but rather the "?" thing (whatever it's called). If you can span these accross almost anything, why couldn't you do "foreach(...){ ... }"... Each bracket doesn't have to be on it's own line.

I know that VBulletin has this implemented for new people that register, does IPB have this or will they have this soon? When you register you have to go to a screen that tell you to: "You need to make any entry into this field so the system knows you are not just an automated spam bot" thanks
