G17 Media reacted to Jim M in Cache Lifetime setting for Guest users in ACP
Believe there is a misunderstanding still. If there is low traffic, guests would not get served cached pages because they would be the first guest to view it. If Guest A views Page 1 and then 15 (actual) minutes elapses, then Guest B comes to view Page 1 then Guest B would get live data.
If the traffic is low as well, odds will certainly be greater that you wouldn’t have new content in that time period either.
I would encourage you to build your community and not yet worry about this 🙂 . We have thousands of communities on our Cloud and it has only been brought up less than a handful of times so I would worry about building your community and less about settings ❤️

I clicked into this very excited, thinking you'd be showing off an AI-generated 'executive summary' of topics. Genuinely curious: why not feed those posts with high impact signals into an LLM to summarize? Not long ago your approach would have been great, but now I think will be in danger of feeling pretty clunky, manual and old fashioned. This seemed like it'd be the perfect opportunity to use a modern tool to solve the problem.

To be honest, I have abstracted from your version 5. Why??? There are many factors - the entry of AI, especially in social networks, and probably also in forum systems, which is basically yours... There is something elusive, but irritating entry into the IT sphere... And unpredictable. .. I personally find it puzzling and wakes up my conservative thinking... Sorry, I can't be of any help to your version 5 for now...
Me too, actually, I don't expect anything in terms of speed...ha ha...🥰

You should contact your hosting company regarding this issue. If there are a huge number of requests going to your server, they need to be blocked at server level.

We're seeing the same things in the EU data centre. It's so frequent at the moment, and very frustrating, particularly as support replies essentially amount to 'it's not happening now, so I can't investigate'.
We'll be heading back to self-hosted if it continues, sadly.

Sadly, IPS management does not allow inactive clients to reply on most of the forums on this community, and they don't see any value to people who have been with them decades. Now days they see only the green color of the $.
@Ehren the new theme editor looks really really great. Thank you for the great work you've been doing to take IPS theme to a next level.
I do have a few suggestions that would make it easier on all IPS users and communities. It would nice if we could give members access to have their own style not everything of course and add that under Account Settings. For examples, "Look and Feel" or "User Interface"
Under this setting we will have
Default color scheme. Many members would like to have their theme looks Light or Dark all the time whenever they are signing from any device. Easier especially if you set your browser to delete cookies automatically every day. Layouts Pages Layout Forum Index Topic List Topic View It just will be nice to give members some options on how they want to see the community.

There is no specific link on how to convert from 3.4 to 4.7 hooks, no. Its an entirely different platform, so it wouldnt be so much 'conversion' as rewriting them entirely

G17 Media reacted to Nathan Explosion in Issue with Uploading Large Files Over 100MB: Need Help
The reason for the original issue is that 2180291008 is higher than 2147483647, which is the maximum value of an INT column if the column is signed, which is the default for INT - unsigned (for zero and positive numbers only) allows that limit to be doubled.

We have countless clients who run communities on our Cloud and self hosted which are able to. I’m afraid, you would need to continue to troubleshoot this with your hosting provider.

Sharing this in case it helps others, or can be merged upstream.
While migrating a large forum we were encountering some poor performance that was narrowed down to DB.preparedQuery. Changing the substitution approach yielded a 10x speedup.
    Current implementation does:
    /* For NULL values, you can't bind, so we adjust the query to actually pass a NULL value */ $pos = 0; for ( $j=0; $j<$i; $j++ ) { $pos = mb_strpos( $query, '?', $pos ) + 1; } $query = mb_substr( $query, 0, $pos - 1 ) . 'NULL' . mb_substr( $query, $pos ); We replaced this with:
    // Replace the i'th '?' character with 'NULL'. $found = preg_match_all('/'.preg_quote('?').'/', $query, $matches, PREG_OFFSET_CAPTURE); if (false !== $found && $found >= $i) { $query = substr_replace($query, 'NULL', $matches[0][$i - 1][1], 1); } If there is a better place to raise this for upstream then please let me know.

G17 Media reacted to Marc Stridgen in Adding primary keys to all tables that are missing one?
Its not something we would recommend attempting on our database. It would likely take a lot of work both on the database and software. As mentioned by Charles above, we use replication to multiple replicas on our own network without the need for this

The account would be created for the user on first login through the OAuth platform, it would not be created ahead of time. You would want to disable the standard login handler if you do not wish to set the password. That way everyone simply logs in via your OAuth.
I'm afraid, this is not something we would entertain from a support perspective. We do not aid with customizations of our software. However, if you want to see primary keys in the future, you would want to comment in the Feedback topic which you linked in your original post.

As mentioned a few times in the Feedback topic you linked, we do not recommend making adjustments to the database structure. It can indeed cause issues in operation and as we move forward and make changes to those tables ourselves.
I would ask yourself as to why that is not possible in the core OAuth 2.0 integration we have or a custom application. Making direct access changes to the database itself is not a good idea.

I gotta say, this is a pain.  I have to contact each provider, hope they have a site, then register, then keep up with many different sites.
Over time, there will be fewer and fewer providers, eventually most of them will probably give up.  Especially the ones that created one or two fun apps.

Interesting to hear, but I used Google's top search results for "10-minute emails" or "temporary emails". Maybe I should look on page 10 of the results page to use a lesser known provider. 😄
But seriously now, if the problem mentioned by opentype is like this, then the list of these providers should be optimized 😉.

G17 Media reacted to ReyDev in Marketplace Closure
I think it's OK if IPS wants to do this, but there is a better way. It's anonying to remove everything at once. You don't want to manage the marketplace, that's ok, but why do this unprofessionally?

You didn't think about how much the customers and providers depend on this method, you just decided that there should be no more Marketplace and announced it, and did!?,  But you didn't think about the solution to this crisis that is happening to the customers and providers.

I recently updated an app that took me about a few days to review. I received a message from a customer that it is not possible to renew. Well, if this possibility has been removed, then why did you allow me to upload the new version?
I'm currently working on setting up my own marketplace to even allow users to install directly, but with this message I've received, now I have to think about how users can download the new file now and within the next two months before setting up my marketplace. It has messed up my schedule and priorities.

In my opinion, the way out of this decision should not have been this way. With respect to all customers, giving the file directly to customers is a very wrong thing to do, and I don't think the providers are okay with it. They only announced that this was going to happen, but did not consider any plan or tools for it. It's good that you list the apps, but does it help with these problems? an instruction should have been prepared for customers and providers so that they can go through it in the best way and with the least worries and continue this way. I think they were in a hurry. My concern is that another decision will be made in the future that will destroy the efforts we are currently making to adapt to it. What is really the guarantee for it?

It totally grinds my gears too. There is no new one!
However, your AdminCP Dashboard if and will tell you when there is an update available, just like it always has. It just won’t install it for you or help you find new apps and themes.
It’s been said so many times before, but I think the providers list should really be in the AdminCP where it belongs, so people can conveniently browse from one logical central point and discover products, with external links to them and the third party disclaimer.
It’s (IMHO) the least IPS could do. They say only a minority of IPS Clients visit this site, of that minority, only a few will ever find the almost hidden providers list, (and of course they crippled Commerce before adding new features or integrations! Grr).

To be honest, I wonder why IPS did not leave marketplace as platform for sellers and instead closure could introduce e.g. monthly, constant payments, then instead taking money directly, could allow seller to define the target payment method.
I use my Commerce this way, so when buyer comes to purchase something he sees who he buys from (exact details) and this way I am responsible for nothing, except colleting money for using the platform.
My only guess is that IPS wanted to get a rid of all custom apps/plugins before IPSv5
