Hello, I ask here to know if this is normal or, on the contrary, if I should submit a support ticket. When I first upgraded to 3.3.2 I seem to recall the server load indicator in IPB's ACP varying the amount day to day. Now it seems like it's always marking 3.47 Is this normal? I use shared server in case that matters.

Hello I Have some performance problem with my board. MySQL Query are slow longer And I have problem with Alter table. When i Would like to optimize my table for cleaning it my table post is locked for 3 hours I have installed percona-server-5.5 and optimize my MySQL configuration MySQL is running on a separate server (Bixeon E5205, 12GB RAM and 2*74Go SATA RAPTOR 10000rpm) I have more than 7 millions posts for 165000 members. It is a Good idea to using partitioning table of MySQL ? It is possible on IPb to separate read / write query ? I think it's a good idea for having one MySQL writing master and some MySQL slave for read query with a load ball…

I should this weekend move site into new dedi, so I would appreciate guidance here. I have been fine-tuning a lot, and lot more past few weeks and I'm bit lost on what should I expect performance to be. Now it's flying when compared to old server, but can't help wondering that is this all, or could it be more faster. Dedi: Dual-Core Intel 2,9Ghz 8 gig ram 2 x 250GB disks (sata2, but not sure), www-root is in second drive. Software: Debian 6 Nginx 1.2.3 php-fpm php 5.3.15 Apc 3.1.9 MySql 5.5.27 I have Varnish in front of the Nginx, but it's not configured properly yet, look into it later on, probably after server change. Now running ab -n 1000 -c 8 http:…

Our database has been running since 2007 and is currently just under 600Mb in size, not particularly big by anyone's standards, but I'm curious if there is a way to clean it up and/or remove obsolete or defunct tables, etc from it. I know we can run the optimize/repair, etc, but I'm in phpMyAdmin and looking at tables that are no longer in use and wondering if it's safe enough to start removing them. Obviously, I can back them up beforehand and restore them if needed, but I'm just looking for anyone else's methods or best practices regarding cleaning up the database if possible :) Cheers Marko

We have a lot of oversize pics on our server that we need to shrink down to save space. Just wondering if anyone has seen a tool around that can be used to shrink the existing oversize pics that were uploaded prior to changing to settings so it shrinks them at the time of upload. Doing them one by one manually would be a major PITA. Thanks in advance for any help, Dudz

been looking at some nginx stuff and one item I seem to have missed is how furls are done in ip content/board since they use htaccess for it. are the rewrite statements they give used in nginx config, of course formatting correctly?

Hello, Im using MySQL 5.5 but all my databases still use MyISAM as the default. Some tables are getting quite large such as my shoutbox table having over 1 millions rows. Its looking like MyISAM is lagging for such occasion as trying to view the shoutbox archive and and still being able to read and write new rows. So im guessing i should be able to just convert this table to use InnoDB in hopes to help optimize it, or are there any reasons why i shouldn't. Thanks 343i

I would like some advice on setting up a VPS. I think I use Debian Squeeze 6 + nginx + mysql + phpmyadmin and I don't know if it's enough? It should be something to work well IPB 3.3.2 ? Suppose we choose nginx, I would like someone to tell me how to configure the site or set configuration site to function properly FURLs and htaccess? For example, I studied a little internet and got to the that nginx conf file: server { listen 80; server_name www.mydomain.com mydomain.com; root /var/www/www.mydomain.com/public/; if ($http_host != "www.mydomain.com") { rewrite ^ http://www.mydomain.com$request_uri permanent; } index index.ph…

Hello, We need to migrate our forum from iso-8859-1 to utf-8. Could you please help us and give us the various steps we need to perform this conversion ? We already made this : 1) ALTER TABLE $table CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 on every tables of IPB 2) change the charset on Admin CP 3) rebuild every caches But it doesn't work well, some parts of our community seems to be well converted (i.e. forums posts), some aren't (i.e topics titles, language translation) Thanks a lot.

when running speed and optimization tests one thing I see mentioned often is combining js files into one. has anyone done that with IP Board and what are the pitfalls I should expect if I try it?

not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, but here goes i run a gaming forum that has grown exponentially, and is overloading the vps that we started the forum on. we have ~13,000 members ( usually 100-150 active, max active 212) and the forum reguraly slows to a crawl over 100 online users i started looking for a dedicated server to move the site to, and was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea what the following server could support Kimsufi 16g i5 4x2.66 16gb ram http://www.kimsufi.ie/

My demo board... 1 user online, ME, no guests... 5 topics, 3 members and the stock IP.Content homepage with parse articles replaced with a topic feed block... My only guess here is that the server is overcrowded... This is a very regular occurance on both this board and another one hosted with a seperate company... So maybe it's an optimization issue on my part w/ the board, even though the optimation settings are STOCK... I'm having identical issues on two of my boards... Both on shared hosting... You click the logo, and it takes 10 seconds before the site even thinks about going to the home page... Then it takes another 10 to load the page so you can actually do s…

I am using IP hosting and trying to diagnose my site is using so many resources and getting an account limited message. I have been averaging 20-30 guests online and a few logged in members. I tried turning on performance mode this evening and it went down a bit but it is already coming back up. Is it even possible to use IPD on a shared hosting plan - even with IP? For the most part it has been fine but the last few months have been typical low traffic for my site. Now the traffic is starting to pick-up it is using a ton of resources. Is there any way to check to see what is causing this?

I have a problem with database imports, so far I've tested this behaviour on 3 machines, one is our hosting provider. This ipb database is an upgrade from ipb2.3 with fixed special characters (sed tool), so it is in pure utf-8 format. The thing is that if I use different export / import tools, database size differs on import - mostly bf_message_posts and ibf_posts tables size vary, since they are biggest. This various sizes were observed when (I alway use mysql console tool for db import): - if I export database via phpmyadmin and reimport it via mysql tool, size goes over 500MiB - if I export database via mysqldump and reimport it via mysql tool, size stays the same (a…

Well I have had issues since the 17th of July when our server died. We were told we would get a new server and it would be built within 12 hours and a previous backup from the night before would be dropped down and restored and all would be ok. 12 hours later, site was up with errors all over the place, the new server had double the RAM as previous (16GB) and 2 x new 10,000 RPM drives. Since the 17th we have had nothing but ISSUES. Server loads over 20, and the site going offline. Apache has been recompiled and restored more than 20 times and it was decided by our hosting company that possibly the backup restores was corrupt and they wanted to try again. I even had …

I'm creating this thread for us to develop a more thought out to the CDN+ Minify Problems. I just want to forward this saying I'm learning as I go along here with CDN's so if anything I write is incorrect please IPB Staff or members here let me know and I can update it. CDN Problems with Minify So lets address the 2 primary problems that we can have with CDN's [*]Purging a QueryString safely calls for versioning 1) AntiCache Header/Query String When IPBoard applys minify to css/js it takes all the seperate files and combines them into 3 files a css "bucket" and 2 js "buckets". By Default they will look something like this: [*]AntiCache Header/Query String on min…

I created a tiny PHP script which I intended to run through shell to backup my DB. What impressed me is that the script works fine running it from a browser as well. So by using it, at any time, I have within seconds a dump of my DB. <?php $command = "mysqldump -u<db_username> -p<db_password> <db_name> | gzip > backupDB_" . date( "H:i:s_d-m-Y" ) . ".sql.gz"; system( $command ); ?> :D

Hi All - I'm currently in the process of converting a large forum over to IPB, as well as a complete redevelopment of the main site. At this time, we're using git for pretty much everything, the current forums (SMF), the main site, git access, server configs, etc. You name and it is probably under revision control. I have a few questions for those that might have their current system under a VCS, or have multiple developers working on the site/forums at once: I think that is it for now. I guess I'm mainly just looking for an overview on how others have done it in the past. :) [*]What files are under the VCS? Obviously cache files and settings files (a distributio…
