Regarding support: You are naturally well within your rights to not allow the author access to your community, either a login or filesystem access etc.
However you must bear in mind that this will limit their ability to help you if they have a need for access. This is not dissimilar to say requesting 'official' support via the Client Area for say a Gallery problem but not providing any form of access to said site.
Its obviously your call if you wish to allow the author or not, all I can say is as I've already put it does limit their options to assist without being able to 'see' the problem first hand.
One option here is perhaps if you can duplicate this issue is to setup a 'test site' and when the issue is present there, provide access to that ?

Using Haze as a test bed, and Tom tells me that all his themes are riff's on the same core theme so this should apply to all of them, here's what doesn't "worK" with KS:
Unread Content and Mark Site Read links. In the default IPS theme they are in the breadcrumb. In these themes they've been moved. So the the toggle to turn them off won't work. You can add them to the user menu though (need to add a small css call to better format them there) and you can also just add css to display: none the links on the page itself if you do move them to the user menu. Might be "fixable" with some changes to KS. I'll look later.
As exepcted, the follow button changes are a no go. They've been changed into a circle thing and moved. You can move the follow button to the comment control line where the other buttons live but all that does is add the follow template there, and since that is now a circle thing that is what appears there, and of course, KS can't remove the circle thing that already is there next to the title as it is no longer where it is exepcted to be to remove it.
Create menu. All good except you need to add a line of css to change the icon size if you swap out the create menu line for an icon.
That's it. The rest appears to be good to go.
Here, userbar, no create menu at all (the pencil is for theme options), seps removed, user menu link just the user avatar. Might need a line of css to adjust the spacing on the right in this particular scenario. That's it though.

Next KS release I'll push out the better Follow button style. If fits in better with the standard IPS buttons.

I can see why it was removed though. I think it is safer in the ACP or at least (as I made the suggestion) a re-authentication option before pruning as its as you know quite destructive, and 'accidents' are known to happen.

I see my thoughts posted above on making this a "bit safer" were taken into consideration for future implementation, as seen on the Feature Plan page.

I too have seen 'accidents' with this feature.
I thought about extra protection for it, but thinking again instead of how it was in 3x and 2x ie a global mod option, how about making it only available to those with ACP access and in a global mod group ?
Another idea would be to request the users password I guess, although I am starting to think this should *only* be available in the ACP itself rather than appear on the front end...

I've removed two posts from this topic as there's no need to allow a support topic to descend to what is not far off insulting.
Lets try to keep it civil. Thank you.

From what I understand it is possible it will make a comeback at some point with some additional protection, going from what I can recall reading when we had the 'upcoming' type features page.
I also recall my and others suggestions that extra protection to it would be added as prune 'accident's are scary and quite upsetting to forum admins, more so the ones without a current backup available. Having seen this happen myself to a community, its not nice.
I'm not sure what the protection is likely to be, I recall suggesting a re-authenticate (ie: you would have to confirm your password to use it) and possibly it may be restricted to those who have ACP access.

    Custom Fields anywhere and everywhere.
This application is an update to the v3 versions of the Topic Template System and the Calendar Template System.
The Template System allows you to customize anything in the suite - forums, calendars, gallery categories, blogs, etc - and to create forms for the user to populate when posting new content.
Create custom fields Group custom fields into Sets for individual containers (e.g. forums) Customize the layout of the field values when viewing content Allow multiple Sets per container to give users a choice of which form to populate Mark individual fields as required - preventing users from creating content without populating the additional fields

If altering this you would need to also make sure PHP is configured so that the session expiration time is at least as high as the value you set or you'll see varying results when garbage collection runs. that is one of the reasons it is no longer configurable as increasing the value does not necessarily lead to reliable results

Um no thats the SQL result limit and you're actually cutting the amount of results in the query. You probably shouldn't touch that.
Pretty sure you should be modifying the widget not the online module. File: core\widget\whosOnline.php
Make sure you edit times for both member and guest. Hopefully IPS will give this widget an option panel for this, probably just an oversight.

Unfortunately this is a false hope. A plugin or app will never be bug free. We can get it as close as possible but things will always happen that is why constant development happens so because of that I would never be able to make that promise. If you have issues after installing it, if you post here we will assist you as the previous poster stated.
I can personally say that I've been running this app for a year and I've only encountered one bug and it did not affect the rest of my site.
