AndyF reacted to Rheddy in Disable Personal Messages Until Post Count Reached
There used to be a third party addon for this feature I'm about to ask for but I think that IPS should add the option for administrators to restrict PM messages for usergroups until they reach a certain number of posted messages or responses on the forums. Sometimes you run into the problem where someone new to your community will register for an account and instead of posting on the forums, they send a barrage of personal messages to forum staff or the general members in some weird advertising campaign. I actually had this happen before where someone signed up for an account and sent unsolicited PMs to members on my site without posting a single message.
It's a problem that I think I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

Edit the template core -> global -> plugins -> recentTopics and find:
    <div class="ipsBox {$spacer}" data-controller="plugins.recentTopics" data-recenttopics-interval="{setting="recentTopicsInterval"}" data-recenttopics-showloading="{setting="recentTopicsShowLoading"}"> Change to:
    <div class="ipsBox {$spacer} ipsResponsive_showDesktop" data-controller="plugins.recentTopics" data-recenttopics-interval="{setting="recentTopicsInterval"}" data-recenttopics-showloading="{setting="recentTopicsShowLoading"}"> Adding ipsResponsive_showDesktop will hide from mobile devices.

Just a few points from me...
    1) In my POV it is far better for you to create individual topics for individual requests. It is rare that we spend time reviewing large "how about all of these things" topics because frankly it's difficult and time consuming. We can and do, however, flag individual requests for follow up on our side quite often.
    2) We absolutely DO base our changes off of requests clients have made. They may not be requests YOU have made, but why would we (as a business) spend time implementing things no one wants? That's just illogical. It's important to remember that we get feedback from many different sources (this forum being but one of them) and you may simply not be aware of common things we hear about from other avenues.
    3) We'll be sticking with PHP for 5.0.

AndyF reacted to bfarber in Anonymization / GDPR
Doesn't really answer my question, however. I can go to any site and post someone's name...that's not the same as retaining records of a user unnecessarily.
But anyways, I'm not going to get drawn into a legal debate about GDPR right now. 😛

This will allow you to display names in quotes and mentions as 'Guest' instead of the original name of the account at the time the quote/mention was made. Note that it doesn't make any changes to the saved content in the database at all - the changes are performed at display time.

Are you accounting for block caching (widgets are cached for a period of time and so the same image would be shown to everyone while the block is cached)? This is not specific to the "random gallery image" block but really to any block.

Is there any plans to introduce reCAPTCHA v3 in near future?
It designed to use in more places rather than just registration and anonymous commenting. Hope to see this soon in IPS at least on registration, sign-in and commenting (not only anonymous, but also registered group-based) forms. Thank you.

Just to be clear, the SVG mention in the blog entry relates specifically to the Safari Mask Icon, not the theme header/logo.
A custom theme can add custom theme options, including the ability to upload an SVG logo.

They look the same in to me:
    - Topic:

    - Article:

Text copied from the URL: https://www.lipsum.com/
Anyway, that's the HTML with CSS classes used in Tutorials for this specific part:
    <div class='ipsColumns ipsColumns_collapsePhone ipsBox'> <article class='ipsColumn ipsColumn_fluid'> <div class='ipsPad'> {{if $article->desc}} <h2 class='ipsType_sectionHead'>{lang="a_desc"}</h2> {{endif}} <section class='ipsType_normal ipsSpacer_top'> <div itemprop='text' data-controller='core.front.core.lightboxedImages'> {{if $article->desc}} <em>{$article->desc}</em> <hr class='ipsHr'> {{endif}} {{if $article->thumb}} <div class="cTutorial_image"> <img class="ipsImage ipsThumb_tiny ipsImage_thumbnailed" src="{file="$article->thumb" extension="tutorials_Image"}"> </div> {{endif}} {$article->content|raw} </div> I'd suggest you to compare CSS classes between default and your theme.

AndyF reacted to bfarber in 'Print Topic' option missing after upgrade?
As has been alluded to, there is no dedicated "print X" (i.e. "print topic") option anymore. Instead, we apply print styles to the page and you can print directly from your browser. If the page is still too heavy for your liking, you can further tweak the print CSS using custom.css in your theme.

Oh I know. 😄 I only asked about the previous version as 3x had a 'Print' option in the share buttons below the topic and (iirc) 2x had it in the dropdown at the top.

Might this app be of use? Except it's "not currently available for purchase." You might want to check the support topic, as there currently seems to be a bug with it if it's set to ignore topics with replies. It's identical to a similar hook that used to exist for IPB 3, I think called Forum Pruner.

AndyF reacted to Matt in Quick request if you have 2 minutes...
    Hi all,
I have a request that will only take a few minutes of your time, and will give you something in return.
We're finally getting around to creating books and guides to help new customers get comfortable on the Invision Community platform.
I'm looking for a few positive quotes and 'soundbites' we can use on a few pages around the site, on social media and in these guides.
Hopefully you've got nice things to say. @LaCollision gave us a very nice quote a while back.
    So things like:
That sort of thing. If you have a specific use for Invision Community, then we'd love to hear from you.
If you are happy to leave a comment, please also leave your name and URL to your site.
If the site is safe for work, then we'll link back to it when using any quotes on our site and on social media.
We get a fairly health bit of traffic so I'm sure you'll get a good number of click throughs too.
If we get 20 useable quotes, I'll post an exclusive picture of Charles and Lindy holding a hotdog from 2008. I did not seek their permission before making this promise.
    Thanks for reading!

Please, add the ability to ignore content itens on streams. There isn’t much sense in ignore someone else’s posts and then have streams constantly bumped with topics/posts made by a ignored user.
    Tks.

I would tell you to put them on your ignore list, but ... Then you'd be trying to ignore the people who are ignoring other people, and apparently you see ignored messages anyways.

AndyF reacted to TSP in Should be possible to move topics from search result set
Why is this not possible already? We can merge topics, close them, sticky them, delete them - but there is no way to choose topics from a result set when searching and move them to another category. There really should be a way to do this from a result set that contains topics.

It would really speed up the process of moving topics when new forums are created.

AndyF reacted to Large Scale Planes in Upgrade from IP. 3.4.x to IPS4.0 (updated)
Ah, it turns out I really was using the wrong versions of the files. No idea how that came about, as I downloaded the correct update, and took care to rename it properly, but when I downloaded a new version of 4.3.4 and applied it, I was able to get past the System Check. Now I'm just waiting for the UTF-8 conversion to finish!

AndyF reacted to bfarber in Secure File System Storage
You did not specify these were multiple-GB files. I also would not store those in the database, indeed.
You can store files outside of the web root directory if you write a PHP script as a gateway. Look at /applications/downloads/interface/legacy/screenshot.php and /applications/gallery/interface/legacy/image.php. These are present because 3.x allowed you to store files outside of the web root directory, and upon upgrade we do not move the files to a new location (so a gateway script is necessary to read and print those files out). You just have to enter a custom URL into the file storage handler "http://mysite.com/applications/downloads/interface/legacy/screenshot.php?path=" and then the actual path of the file gets appended to the URL (at which point it is passed as a query string parameter to screenshot.php which does the rest).
In short, this is largely already possible, although I can't say if it's something we want to push to the forefront and make a common feature.

@Faqole This is an awesome idea. I will buy it later this week. But, off the bat, I have one suggestion. A per-usergroup default profile privacy setting. For instance, the default profile privacy for usergroup A could be "everyone" but the default profile privacy for usergroup B could be "no one (except the user and admins)". This would solve a particular situation we have in our community and that users complain about. Many thanks!
