After 5 years or maybe even more of using Invisioncommunity packages until 4.6+ I was pretty happy with everything. Now there are some new updates coming out every now and then.. Especially now with the latest update 4.7 a lot of plugins aren't working anymore. I have this problem with "Couldn't get the list of blocks.." on manage blocks on 3 or 4 suites.

    The suggestion for today is:
Plugins such as, 'General Statistics', 'Who Was Online', 'Group Name Indicator' should be directly implemented to the invision community packages for installation.
It would help a lot of community owners and even businesses with these plugins.. Because with all the updates going on now, we get new features but also a lot of problems for current plugins already installed on our website.

Please consider my suggestion and try implementing it. As a invisioncommunity client I'm pretty satisfied with the services provided, but we need a little bit more.

If you are comfortable editing templates, this comes from the “embedItem” template in the theme. Shouldn’t be too hard to strip a few things there.

OptimusBain reacted to PPlanet in Fluid View Streams
When creating a stream (particularly an admin-made stream), it would be great if you could select all subforums inside a category and/or inside a parent forum, just by ticking a box "Select all inside". This would work really well in sites like mine with lots and lots of subforums of course (where I cannot tick all one by one to include them in a stream).
I know that now you can do that with the forums fluid view basically, but good part of my membership base don't want the fluid view of forum topics, IF it also means losing the browsing down path through the individual folders or subforums they are used to. So, having streams achieving something similar would be great because you can put links to them wherever you want without losing access to some branches of the site's tree-like structure.

While you are still tweaking the Events app, please add settings for the various new sections. I’m sure they make perfect sense for Lego’s international community, but they will not work for many other communities. For example, a community for a local organization might never ever need the “events near you“ feature or location search.
Search section: show/hide In your area: show/hide Also: mode (overview/monthly/weekly/daily) could be a choice of options just like we can choose the view modes for forums.

OptimusBain got a reaction from teraßyte in Filter user groups by product purchased in the bulk email module
    Hello,
It should be possible not to send bulk email to users who have purchased a certain product in the Bulk Email module in ACP. Let me explain why we should have this option.
In mail marketing it's crucial to distinguish leads from clients. Since IPS forum is offering the possibility of selling products in our communities, we should be able to filter users that have purchased a product or subscription so we can send them specific emails regarding to the products they have or have not purchased.
Members buy certain products and we want to send them emails offering them a product or a membership/subscription IGNORING those users in user groups that have purchased a product. It's a critical filter because I am sending emails to promote certain features and memberships and I am using the default MEMBER user group.
There are a couple of critical issues that are the result of not being able to filter the user groups by those that have purchased or not a certain product/subscription:
Once the user cancels his subscription after purchasing product X, his user group will be reverted to MEMBER and he will receive emails again. And that's not what we want because he will be reading an email that is supposed to be directed to users that did not purchase any product. Else, the users will be reading a sales pitch for a product they have already purchased. Those admins using secondary groups to move users to custom user groups created for each product will have the same issue. The use of secondary groups is common if there are several products and permissions/privileges granted to each product's user group. Since each user can buy more than one different product. So, in the end, everyone belongs to the MEMBER user group and everyone receive emails that are not addressed to them (selling something they already have purchased and whose membership they probably cancelled. Why? Because the bulk email function will not filter user groups that purchased a product. There is no possibility to do any of this right now 😞

Refer to this thread for more information.
    Thanks

@Matt what you're doing makes sense and I understand why.  My only concern right now is that there are people who are unable to properly use the scanner due to the number of 3rd party resources (or the size of the libraries in a resource).
This means those individuals don't REALLY know if their apps are compatible right now while we're in a state where it's just noted but not force disabled.
I'm assuming you're going to get the scanner fixed, but I need to if know we're going to have enough time between when you fix the scanner and when you start force disabling resources for those of us who are in a holding pattern right now.

I've located the problem. The issue is caused by a great plugin that let us send a test email from the bulk mail module... a VERY useful function that should be built-in.
If the plugin is enabled, the attachments won't be displayed in the emails received.
    Thanks a lot

Also...  one thing I've seen happen is if you have a firewall system or certain security settings on your host...  you could end up with content being blocked from being remotely loaded from remote sites.
When it's opened in an email, it's not coming from your site...  so your server may end up blocking it.

Bulk emails are a fantastic feature that allows you to communicate news and other important stuff to your community - allowing you to target specific subsets of folk too.
The addition of scheduled topics is fantastic, but this function doesn't yet exist for bulk emails. Is this something that the team is already considering?
It would be super practical if I could write something up in the evening and send it out at peak hours next day without having to log in, paste the content, and click the button myself at the right time.

OptimusBain reacted to Matt in 4.7.2 PHP 8 Compatibility Scanner [Please read if upgrading from 4.7.1 or below]
Invision Community 4.7.2 now features a third party application and plug-ins PHP 8 compatibility scanner.
Please read this post as you may find applications of plugins disabled after upgrading.
    Why do we need this?
The underlying programming language that Invision Community uses is PHP. The latest version, PHP 8 was released in November 2020 and features many breaking changes and incompatibilities that are not backwards compatible. Some of these changes mean that what was a harmless silent notice, is now a fatal error which would mean that if you upgrade with incompatible code, your community would throw a fatal error which results in either a white screen, or a server level error message in your browser.
These fatal errors cannot be captured by Invision Community and managed. The fatal errors are deeper in the execution chain.
PHP 8 has been out for close to two years, and PHP 7.4 is 'end of life' and security updates will cease from November which means that it becomes insecure, so everyone will have to move to PHP 8 very shortly.
    What is it
The compatibility checker examines all third party applications and plugins that you have added from the Marketplace.
We encourage our Marketplace authors to test with PHP 8 but not all do, and as such applications and plugins that work fine with PHP 7.4 will fail with PHP 8.
The compatibility checker scans all third party code for issues that could cause fatal errors, and if it finds them it will disable the application or plugin on upgrade.
The only way to re-enable the application or upgrade is to update it to a 4.7.2 compatible version from the marketplace.
Can I re-enable disabled third party plugins and applications?
Yes, if you are confident the plugins and applications are fine to run with your current PHP version then you can re-enable them until our November release which will then enforce the disabling of applications.

It's worth reaching out to the authors of key plugins and applications to see if they have a PHP8 compatible version available, or plan to have one by November so you can prepare for the November upgrade.
    Is this really needed?
Unfortunately yes. PHP are making bold changes that are not backwards compatible. Invision Community is fortunate to have so many third party developers releasing apps and plugins to further enhance the feature-set, but we do not have direct control over this code. Our priority is to ensure that your site upgrades smoothly and remains online.
    Why now?
We finally ran out of road. We have been working towards PHP 8 compatibility for a while, and we have encouraged our third party authors to do so too, and to test with PHP 8. We also informed the developers in August about the scanner and what it may do to their applications. We also have been releasing Invision Community 4.7 betas since May of this year to give them as much time as possible to update their applications. Enforcing this change is painful in the short term but benefits everyone in the longer term.
    What else can I do?
Your self-hosting license allows you a test install which you should use as a staging site and test any upgrades on that staging site before performing the upgrade on your production site. This will enable you to capture any issues that may arise before you run it on your production site.

As always, we recommend that a back-up snapshot is taken before any upgrade so that you can easily rollback if you encounter any issues.
I'm using PHP 7, does this affect me?
Yes, the compatibility scanner will still run on the upgrade and check for PHP 8 issues so that when you do upgrade to PHP 8 you won't find that your community is no longer working.

    Thanks for reading!
