I keep checking this site for a blog post that describes first class support for video attachments in 4.5...
I hope 4.5 does indeed add much better support for uploading and attaching videos to posts.
Video hosting is very easy these days with cheap video streaming services like Cloudflare Stream.

In addition to video hosting, I hope 4.5 comes with a better uploader for videos. The current uploader is miserable for uploading large files like videos. Fortunately, there is a very good open source uploader called Uppy that handles uploading both large and small files (and was created especially for uploading videos).

Finally, Cloudflare Stream requires tus to upload videos to Cloudflare and Uppy was created by the same company that created the tus protocol.

A long shot I know, but I'd love to see the gallery become a truly video-friendly place.
    > Automatic thumbnail option (generated from midway point in video perhaps)
    > Video compression options
    > Inbuilt video player, rather than relying on users browser's video player.

Would be willing to pay for anyone who developed these features too.

don't worry I am just bored of quarantine
for existing files, you can run a query to update db, keep in mind you also need to query update s3 keys as well, prob not hard to do thru aws command line

    https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/UsingMetadata.html
if this is what you talking about, you prob want to do some pre processing to alter the file name both in your db and s3 key

TIP 1: If you are paying over $100 per month for S3 services you may want to consider a dedicated server @ $120 + Stackpath CDN @ $25.
As your site traffic increases so will your S3 costs.
You can sync your local static folders to the new server so that all images are copied to the new server. The CDN will then fetch the static files from the new server.
TIP 2: If you stick with S3 make sure you use a CUSTOM DOMAIN so that all your static files are using a domain that you control - that you can move over to another service in case costs keep climbing. If you don't do this you can lose SEO from images, pdfs, etc that are currently driving traffic to your site when and if you decide to move to another service.

you have link to an example gallery page that doesn't work? maybe i can take a look

the other method I mentioned is using aws sdk, and a package called s3 fuse or something that mounts a buckets to your server like a regular folder

Have you looked at Cloudflare Stream? It is relatively inexpensive at $1 per thousand minutes viewed and $5 per thousand minutes stored (per month).

It's on our RADAR. Video is pretty tricky though. We'd need a 3rd party service to transcode the video and stream it at the right resolution for the current device. This would come at a cost of course.

Fingers cross for invision community 5.0 maybe? 😁 I just feel like the videos in the gallery right now feel tacked on the end (perhaps highlighted best by the fact that videos are still referred to as an 'image' when editing them in the gallery).
As the internet becomes more and more driven by video content, I would love to see Invision adapt.

I requested custom development for FFmpeg back in 2018:
No takers, but if there is someone out there with the required skills, then I'd be happy to contribute towards a solution.

Agreed, but there are already suggestions about improving the contact form, including one (from me) to add the ip of the user of the contact form.
Also to make the amount of quetions to ask in the question and answer challenge customizable.
They all can have some improvement because when not payed for the license anymore (f.e. version 5 comes out and you want to say at 4 and don't pay license anymore), the build in anti-spam will not work anymore. So the variety of protection possibility's or at least customization of these in IPS is a bit poor imho.

If the only option in the dropdown is topic, it should direct straight the to topic creation part. A dropdown for one item, and an extra click currently.

    It's a very common feature, nowadays. 😉

A very belated response - but thanks for pointing me in the right direction for those plugins.
I'll certainly take a look at both, but I still feel in the future it would be great to see more announcement options within core IPS.
    For example:
Announcements via notifications Announcements via private messages Announcements as popup window Announcement where something must be agreed to / clicked / acknowledged before proceeding to use site (similar to when rules/terms change, but customisable for other uses) I realise different paid plugins can do some of these, but I am sure I can't be alone in hoping that IPS consider adding more ways to directly reach users in future versions.

What's great about this plugin is that you can programmatically generate notifications. So, with a little know how, you can notify your users about anything you like.
