Tracy Perry got a reaction from Kevin W in No more go to first unread post link in topic
Best solution is to use a somewhat standard format in that the topic links to the first unread post.  Pretty sure most of the scripts perform the same, not requiring you to click on a little round circle to read the newest post.
XenForo - click on topic takes you to first unread post
Burning Board - click on topic takes you to the first unread post
myBB - click on the topic takes you to the first unread post
Seeing a trend here yet?  IPS is apparently the only one that the users have to learn a whole new process for.  Really helps towards that user friendliness, requiring them to learn a whole new process JUST to use your site compared to other (possibly competitor) sites that they use.  Guess which they will tend to keep going back to?  Odds are it's not going to be the strange duck that requires them to have to relearn/think about what is "normal" for them on other sites.
And to top it off, clicking on that little round button is not "easy" on mobile when compared to clicking on that nice long topic text.

Agreed, if the field is important enough to be collected, it should be important enough to be able to be searched upon.  It is very limiting to not allow that and defeats the purpose of custom fields.

Yep, and I'm sure you've probably seen some of my posts "harping" on this very fact.  It basically appears to be a package that they use(d) internally that they bolted a few features onto and then turned into an app to resale.  It's not a "true" commerce package by any means.

Well, now we have Google Maps (which now charges after a certain point and you have to have your credit card on file) and MapBox with the same basic pay to play formula.
Any chance of getting OpenLayers API in use with OpenStreetMap?  Think the entire setup there is free.  OpenLayers apparently can interface with Bing and most of the other major players also.

Lack of prefixes in a definable per forum area is what is one of the major things keeping me from converting a site over from XF to IPS.  I have a developers site set up for the XF one and I went from 11 topic nodes to 33 nodes.  The added benefit of the prefixes in one node allows users to maybe find another topic they wish to discuss.  The nice benefit of the way XF does it is a simple add-on (in the 1.5 line) allows you to sort by the prefix.  I believe the 2.0.x line does that natively now.

They have a new link that you have to use.
    https://developer.twitter.com/en/dashboard
If you are going to https://apps.twitter.com/ it isn't going to be around long as they are going to retire it and all existing will be under that first link - which your current ones should be once you set up a new developers account.
You should be able to get to the existing ones on the second link for now.

Tracy Perry reacted to ehren. in Feedback for support staff regarding themes
    Hello,
I guess this is just a friendly feedback topic for the benefit of my own customers, which I'm submitting in an attempt to improve IPS Support Ticket responses.
As a theme developer, customers quite often contact me with bug reports after IPS Support have told them the issue is caused by their 3rd party theme. After quickly checking the issue for myself and noticing the issue also happens with the Default IPS theme, I'm required to redirect the customer back to the IPS ticket system so the Support Staff can investigate further. This isn't a burden for myself, but I can understand the frustration from customers who are bounced between two support desks without a solution.
If Support Staff could make a conscious effort to always check the Default theme before referring customers to 3rd party developers for a solution, I'm sure my customers would be greatly appreciative of the improved support times.

Tracy Perry reacted to liquidfractal in Custom FURLs for Clubs features please?
So I'm creating a Club (Space) for a group called the Complex Processes Research Group.  Well and good; I can create blogs, forums, etc. etc.  However, the only option we have for externally linking to these resources is the standard (and, may I say, ugly) URLs to generic blogs and forums, e.g.
    https://www.liquidfractal.org/blogs/blog/54-blog/
The option to create custom FURLs to change it to something like, for example,
    https://www.liquidfractal.org/blogs/CPRG-events-and-info-blog
would be a far superior choice for so many reasons (Google being one of them!).  I for one would like to see this option for all Club features - anyone else?
EDIT: In fact - and even better - shouldn't all Clubs have the option of having the following structure? (following the above example) --
    https://www.liquidfractal.org/the-complex-processes-research-group/CPRG-events-and-info-blog
    https://www.liquidfractal.org/the-complex-processes-research-group/videos
    or similar variations?

@InvisionHQ Could this possibly be incorporated into Clubs Enhancements?

The /terms and /privacy pages also fail to use the ipsBox class so the text cannot be read if a background image is used.
To the IPS staff: Is it possible to get an ETA of when these fixes might be applied? Customers continually report these problems to me to me but it's technically not an issue with my code

Another area that needs to be addressed is the notValidated template.  Currently it gives you this

it wouldn't be so bad if there was an effective template history/merge capability, but after each style upgrade you have to remember to redo these special template edits since apparently when you upgrade your style you should install it fresh and not "upgrade" it.  You then have to redo any special template edits that you have created.  It's really a pain and one of the great weaknesses that I've found in the IPS templating system.

With an all-day event it would streamline it.
But how often does one do an all-day 1 day event.  Usually those extend over a mutli-day (weekend) or longer time period.

I use a skin developer that provides regular updates based on having a live subscription, not too disimilar to the way a subscription allows access to IPS updates.
I use the skins from @ehren., who operates in such a way over at https://www.ipsfocus.com/, and l've never had issues maintaining updates to skins.

Instead of asking City/Province, State. Why don't we just ask country, then zip. After zip it would auto fill. If no autofill fall back onto manually entering rest of information. I've seen a few sites do it and love seeing it when I don't have to type as much information in by hand.
