Thanks to Support for dealing with this issue. As a bit of a digital dunce I can’t help but wonder exactly what happened? Anyhow, everything seems to be back to normal on my Board. I’m sure the Support team understands Board owners/admins and moderators frustration when they go down. These Discussion Forums/Suites etc are very important to the owners and as much if not more so to the Members. Mine was launched in 2002. And I still have charter Members who have been active for 22 years. Many freak out when they can’t get on Board.

Wicked007 reacted to PPlanet in PHP8 Incompatible Customizations
Thanks Wicked, but I believe that in that case you should have come across the scanner before. Version 4.7.3 was the last version that worked with PHP 7.4 and it came with the scanner to help you prepare for the PHP 8-compatible versions.
I asked because if you were upgrading from something older than 4.7.3, you could have simply switched back your PHP to 7.4, uninstall the files, and then change back to PHP 8 after the upgrade.
Now, it worries me that it seems that the scanner on 4.7.15 seems to be detecting potential problems not detected by immediately earlier versions. I'm saying this based on this topic and others commenting about having trouble with the upgrade due to third party apps that now they cannot uninstall, etc.

    For Staff Applications System: https://www.sosinvision.com.br/index.php?/announcement/11-ips-marketplace-keys/
There’s no issues in the “uninstall code”. They ARE incompatible as 4.7.15 broke them. It won’t let you uninstall the app due to the changes made. Once uploaded a new version ( a.k.a. Edit the files with missing parameters), you can use or uninstall the app.

You would need to contact the author of those applications for assistance. Its likely they also have issues in the uninstall code that isnt compatible.

Wicked007 reacted to UncrownedGuard in One time payment to join Club
Yes, this is possible within the club's app itself. You do have to enable paid clubs and then allow user groups to create paid clubs.  I also have Commerce installed on my sites, but it does not appear to require it (but I am not sure).

EDIT: Actually I now believe they do require Commerce as the settings use Commerce's payment methods.

You may (if you use these features) need to provide the following after upgrading
Maxmind userid PayPal clientid/secret if using Pay Outs (typically, this would be the same as the PayPal gateway) You may need to apply for access to the PayPal Payout API if you do not already have it.

Wicked007 reacted to Matt in 4.7.2 PHP 8 Compatibility Scanner [Please read if upgrading from 4.7.1 or below]
Invision Community 4.7.2 now features a third party application and plug-ins PHP 8 compatibility scanner.
Please read this post as you may find applications of plugins disabled after upgrading.
    Why do we need this?
The underlying programming language that Invision Community uses is PHP. The latest version, PHP 8 was released in November 2020 and features many breaking changes and incompatibilities that are not backwards compatible. Some of these changes mean that what was a harmless silent notice, is now a fatal error which would mean that if you upgrade with incompatible code, your community would throw a fatal error which results in either a white screen, or a server level error message in your browser.
These fatal errors cannot be captured by Invision Community and managed. The fatal errors are deeper in the execution chain.
PHP 8 has been out for close to two years, and PHP 7.4 is 'end of life' and security updates will cease from November which means that it becomes insecure, so everyone will have to move to PHP 8 very shortly.
    What is it
The compatibility checker examines all third party applications and plugins that you have added from the Marketplace.
We encourage our Marketplace authors to test with PHP 8 but not all do, and as such applications and plugins that work fine with PHP 7.4 will fail with PHP 8.
The compatibility checker scans all third party code for issues that could cause fatal errors, and if it finds them it will disable the application or plugin on upgrade.
The only way to re-enable the application or upgrade is to update it to a 4.7.2 compatible version from the marketplace.
Can I re-enable disabled third party plugins and applications?
Yes, if you are confident the plugins and applications are fine to run with your current PHP version then you can re-enable them until our November release which will then enforce the disabling of applications.

It's worth reaching out to the authors of key plugins and applications to see if they have a PHP8 compatible version available, or plan to have one by November so you can prepare for the November upgrade.
    Is this really needed?
Unfortunately yes. PHP are making bold changes that are not backwards compatible. Invision Community is fortunate to have so many third party developers releasing apps and plugins to further enhance the feature-set, but we do not have direct control over this code. Our priority is to ensure that your site upgrades smoothly and remains online.
    Why now?
We finally ran out of road. We have been working towards PHP 8 compatibility for a while, and we have encouraged our third party authors to do so too, and to test with PHP 8. We also informed the developers in August about the scanner and what it may do to their applications. We also have been releasing Invision Community 4.7 betas since May of this year to give them as much time as possible to update their applications. Enforcing this change is painful in the short term but benefits everyone in the longer term.
    What else can I do?
Your self-hosting license allows you a test install which you should use as a staging site and test any upgrades on that staging site before performing the upgrade on your production site. This will enable you to capture any issues that may arise before you run it on your production site.

As always, we recommend that a back-up snapshot is taken before any upgrade so that you can easily rollback if you encounter any issues.
I'm using PHP 7, does this affect me?
Yes, the compatibility scanner will still run on the upgrade and check for PHP 8 issues so that when you do upgrade to PHP 8 you won't find that your community is no longer working.

    Thanks for reading!

Rename your current Members group to NOOBs. Create a new Members group. Move all members from NOOBs (renamed in #1) to Members (created in #2). All new registered members will now end up in the NOOBs group.

I wouldn't put any credence whatsoever into random "oh your site can be hacked you should scan it" type reports like that.
The one link you provided is for legacy 1.x/2.x/3.x versions (none of which are even supported anymore). That would be like someone telling you your computer running Windows 10 is insecure because they managed to find an exploit for Windows 95 posted somewhere on the internet.

All forums are high targets for attacks.
I can comment on several CMS I've used where I know I did in fact get DDOS attacks, SQL injections, Cross Scripting attacks, etc.
And the only way I know to deal with those is by having a CDN and WAF.

Technically, no site is 100% safe. If someone really wanted to hack you, I'm sure they could find a way.
If you wanted to scan your site to see what you could do to enhance your security, these free tools are useful:
    https://sitecheck.sucuri.net https://observatory.mozilla.org

I strongly agree with this. The latest release of IPS has more security features than previous ones so I feel more safe with using it.
These internet heroes are some trusted companies that can help you secure your site even more:
CloudFlare SiteLock Sucuri CloudFlare's CDN is free and it is the most popular CDN on the internet. I've never used their WAF, but from what I've read it seems good.
I've used SiteLock's WAF and it was great at blocking and removing stuff automatically. I can't comment on their CDN, but it should be good as well.
Sucuri was acquired by GoDaddy, so it's cheaper to buy it as GoDaddy Web Security which includes both a CDN a WAF making it easier to manage all of your site's security from one place. The things I like the most about Sucuri include that they remove things by having a security expert manually scan your site, their exceptional customer service, their easy to understand documentation, and the fact their Dashboard makes it really easy for you to add additional security features.
    Other than that...
YOU are the biggest risk to your own site.
Try your best to follow internet safety guidelines like using different emails and passwords
on different websites and keeping your phone and computer clean. Secure your emails, IPS Board, cPanel, etc. with Two Factor Authentication. Read EVERYTHING on your AdminCP and lock down your permissions.
Do it like the military; if someone doesn't NEED access to something, don't give it to them. Backup backup backup! If a file doesn't exist in at least 3 places, it doesn't exist. Try to stay informed. These are some security blogs I follow:
    https://threatpost.com/
    https://www.schneier.com/

I'll probably be adding more to that as I continue developing my site. 🙂
