IveLeft... reacted to Allen Bradford in Important notice about your Invision Community cloud package
Well, not really.
I may have missed an email notice about this, and only found out about the change in Cloud Hosting Plans for 2022 this morning when I saw this Topic.
I have a modest Board that is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in March 2022, and is funded primarily via voluntary Donations. I am currently in the Ultra 100 User Plan at $70/month. After checking with Support on my current Usage/Page Views etc I am told I will need to change to the “Growth Plan” at $142/month. That is over DOUBLE an increase in Cloud Hosting fees with no explanation as to why.
Lindy as Manager, is there any flexibility for clients that are getting whacked by this change in Cloud Hosting Packages?
Can I speak to you or another Manager over the phone, person to person, or establish an email dialogue?

IveLeft... reacted to The Old Man in Statistics Users Overview Feedback & Charts Widget
Nice touch, Team IPS!
I'm not sure when it was added to the Stats section, perhaps I've just never noticed it before, but in Stats > Users Overview it shows us some nicely presented stats on some custom profile fields we have set up, effectively community meta data that would otherwise be hidden. True if you configured it, you can do a search for members with specific custom fields, but it's just a list of members.
My custom fields are nothing high value but maybe a year or so ago just for fun I'd added a birth zodiac sign field to members profiles, so not everyone in the last 20 years would have used it, but the report instantly shows the highest and lowest number of members with particular birth signs.
Also as my community is primarily about a particular short lived TV series, I have a field set up much longer ago where people can select their favourite of the 3 seasons, if they have any. I also have custom profile fields (select form fields) for favourite episodes, characters, directors, writers, etc but for some reason only these 2 show on the Users Overview page.
It used to be that this was really just individual data seen when looking at a members profile, but the User Overview in AdminCP sheds some light and perspective on the data, and without needing Google to do it!
So yes, thanks Team IPS for adding this, it's a nice, innovative touch.
In terms of feedback suggestions, it would be nice to have:
A quick toggle to switch chart type, say a donut or pie chart. New Stats Chart widget block - I'd love to be able to show these 2 charts on the front end, so perhaps a Stats Chart block that you could add like the other widget blocks, Further you could also add multiple charts to a dedicated page created via Pages. Add a Custom Fields section to the Users section with all the custom profile fields and more display and filter options.

I prefer Immunity (although paid for)

We used to use OWASP - Imunify is a lot better for less false positives - Part of the cloudlinux suite, used them since 2012

IveLeft... reacted to Nathan Explosion in (NE) Translate
This resource is not yet in the MarketPlace...so calm down!! 😉 I am writing this up now for the eventual release...
Here's what it does do... Shows a 'Translate' link/menu below the content in Forum/Calendar/Pages* (support for other applications may be added depending on popularity of this application) * "Pages" will require a manual action by the admin to add something to the 'Display' template(s) for their database. Uses Google's Cloud Translation REST API (Basic) or DeepL's Translator API You, the Admin, can choose from the list of the API's supported languages and make those available to the user for use (would be a good idea - Google supports approximately 100 target languages while DeepL currently supports 28 target languages If you choose to display one language for use, then a single link is available to the user But if you choose more than one language then a menu will appear listing the configured available languages. You can also choose who can see the translate option. When a language is selected, the content will be sent to the configured API using REST, translated and returned. The returned translation will be processed and the content will be replaced. Additionally, each translation is stored in the database so that further translation requests for the same content are pulled from there instead of being translated via the API. If the original content is edited then any translations stored in the database will be discarded, ensuring that any further translation requests do not provide an out-of-date translation, and always translate the current content. Functionality exists to allow you to view the translations in the ACP and refine the translation if you so wish. Translations can be 'protected' so that the editing action above doesn't discard the translation - useful if you have refined the translation and wish to retain that refinement In this case, if an edit is performed then a clear indication will be displayed in the ACP advising that the translation is out-of-date due to the original content being edited. The user can revert to the original content at any time by clicking a link to do so. Usage logs are available in the ACP for each translation request, so you can see basic information about requests made from your site out to the APIs (both of which have their own console available which provides detailed usage information), along with requests made to content saved in the database. Here's what it doesn't do... It does not translate your entire site at the flick of a switch. If that is something you are seeking then you would have to implement your own Google Translate functionality on your site (https://www.dummies.com/article/technology/notable-websites/google/how-to-install-google-translates-website-translator-plugin-145074) Translation of content at the time of display, as opposed to a user choice Why? Translation is performed via a REST API request - each item of content in a topic, for example, would need to be sent to the API. In a topic with multiple posts then this will mean up to 25 REST API requests being performed to display each page of the topic. That is going to result in a performance hit, and is not something I am willing to put in place at this time. Will it be a future feature? Maybe, but no promises.

They're response times. During the outage, customer URLs were still responding to requests but they weren't responding with the 'normal' page.

You will really need to give a lot more information about what you exactly want to do and what you have server wise.
Here are the Nginx docs

IveLeft... reacted to Larry Kachadorian in Test / Dev site capability for cloud based communities
Having a separate test/dev site separate from your "production" environment is pretty much standard practice. Yet for cloud accounts that has presented a problem ... unless we've missed something that is available.
Since transitioning to Invision cloud , in addition to our main site, we have paid for the smallest legacy cloud account as a test/dev site. Its closed to guests , and can only be accessed by accounts that are created by our Admin. We prototyped our site there prior to our actual migration from our previous vendor and have maintained it since.
This second site was/is invaluable in preventing issues ... particularly in one of the major upgrades (4.5 ??) which changed how the default theme handled the header space and made some 3rd party themes as well as some apps unusable. We were able to find out what issues specifically affected our site. And it was huge. If we had just applied it to production, it would have been a disaster.
Same with the initial roll-out implementation of lazy loading . We had images imbedded in the Forum descriptions which caused issues which we caught on our test/dev site. Invision support recognized the problem as somewhat unique to us at that time.
I could go on, but the value that a test/site provides is obvious. Even for small, non commercial sites like ours.
However now that option is going to cost more since Invision is closing out the legacy options with new, more expensive offerings. The increase in cost and "functionality" does not, for us, create any new value. Particularly since our use case for the account has an infinitesimal impact on the Invision host environment.
There should be a fixed, low cost method of providing an option for managers/developers of cloud accounts where than can duplicate their unique production environment for the purposes of testing new apps/upgrades etc.

IveLeft... got a reaction from Marc Stridgen in Pages > Categories
Thankyou gents - it was confusing - perhaps IPS should update the text to make the warning clear what it really means.....
-
IveLeft... reacted to Nathan Explosion in Pages > Categories
You have a warning that if you wish to disable categories then you will have to move the categorised items into one category.
It's not a warning that you can't use categories - it's a warning that because you are using them, then if you then choose to turn them off then you need to understand what you need to do.
