H5K reacted to Giray in Self-hosted vs. cloud drivers
If asked and answered elsewhere, please feel free to give me the link.
As a satisfied and dedicated self-hosted client, who plans to remain so for a while, I just wanted to ask IPS about the self-hosted vs. cloud functionality differences. Are the differences technically-driven or business-driven? In other words, e.g. courses, who is viewing this topic, etc. are on cloud only because the implementation on self-hosted would be too technically complex or is it a business rationale to motivate a likely more lucrative cloud offering? Clearly, IPS is entitled to business-driven decisions, but I think it would be useful to know what drives the growing number of benefits to the cloud offering: programming or revenue?
Another question, which I respect IPS may not wish to answer, is the current % of self-hosted vs. cloud clients. Again, I respect it if you prefer not to say, a private corporation is private for a reason, but I thought I would ask nonetheless because it will give us an idea of the probable longevity of the self-hosted commitment. If self-hosted only represents 10%, then I can see the rationale for putting maximum effort into the cloud offering. If self-hosted is still over 50%, then I feel more comforted that we'll be supported for a longer time.
Both these questions are asked with an understanding of IPS' stated commitment to a self-hosted offering for the 'foreseeable future' (as per an IPS response on TrustPilot). But, admittedly, as you know, some of us in the self-hosted realm are starting to feel like an annoying cousin.
Thanks in advance and, not to be too repetitive, I am an IPS supporter and love the product. I just want to be further reassured of the benefits of my/our continued commitment to the platform.

This sounds quite curious... Method above I described, I use for more than 2 years - not a single browser gets angry or does something illogical, for all app in the suite.
Please give me an example of what you are talking about...

H5K reacted to Adlago in Render-blocking CSS
Simply put, you are delusional, somehow...
What you say was true when protocol h1 was leading... In the presence of h2 - i.e. parallel download, slows down acceleration when downloading unused CSS is no more than 200 ms.. which compared to site performance acceleration is negligible...
Of course, my advice is not mandatory and is for people who are looking for solutions to many recent Google requirements...
This does not prevent the use of critical CSS, which further improves site loading.
But onloag loading CSS unused is too time-consuming task - and as you know, IPS suspended access to architecture CSS...
CSS prefetch is a stupid solution and doesn't work well,

I have written a lot about this subject, incl. and i have a design to use the critical CSS to remove the Render-blocking CSS. Yes, it works, but it takes a lot of time to analyze and develop a good critical CSS.
For a few days I've been exploring another idea that came to my mind.
Code in IncludeCSS works perfectly and this code tells the browser - download all those CSS and use them to represent the site. But this code does not tell the browser when and how to use them.
The idea I'm using right now is - I created a new template that I put before closing the tag head. In my experiment, this template looks like this:
    {template="preload_css" app="core" location="global" group="analysis" params=""} In this template I placed this code
    {{foreach array_unique( \IPS\Output::i()->cssFiles, SORT_STRING ) as $file}} <link rel='preload' href='{expression="\IPS\Http\Url::external( $file )->setQueryString( 'v', \IPS\CACHEBUST_KEY )"}' as="style"> {{endforeach}} {{$customCss = \IPS\Theme::i()->css( 'custom.css', 'core', 'front' );}} {{foreach $customCss as $css}} <link rel='preload' href='{expression="\IPS\Http\Url::external( $css )->setQueryString( 'v', \IPS\CACHEBUST_KEY )"}' as="style"> {{endforeach}} Now, besides a browser command to download all CSS, I send the browser a command - use these CSS as a matter of priority.
And the result of over 100 my tests - no render-blocking CSS ...
There are no side effects or any other bad impact.
I've installed it on my live site and it works perfectly.
If a development team wishes, let him test it and apply it in later releases. This will speed up all sites using this really good platform.

H5K reacted to HeavyWolfPL in Stop adding Mod/Admin IP to user's history
Sorry, I haven't thought about giving a better example. What I mean is that some actions that you do on a user, make your IP appear in his Devices & IP Addresses tab. Here's an example, I've performed some actions on user's account, so my IP appeared as one of "his" IP addresses.

I have a simple app that just searches for any connections between users, including devices and IPs. Previously I was getting false positives, as some of my staff was flagged, due to their IP being connected to these users. I now have a simple whitelist for them, but still why does it happen?

@Stuart Silvester@Jim M this seems to be a bug. I think I recall having a similar issue after editing an existing gateway and replacing the test api key/webhook/etc with the live info. Could you confirm if there is a bug with editing an existing gateway?

This issue was being caused by the payment gateway trying to use customer data from Stripe's test mode on the live gateway.
It's always a good idea remove the gateway that was used for the Stripe test mode during set up and create a new one for live transactions.

I can't recall specifically if this ended up being the issue or not but going to write it anyway just in case:
I think I got a similar error when I had multiple Stripe card checkouts with different Stripe accounts

Make sure the Stripe IPs are whitelisted. I got that same error because my firewall was blocking some of the connections to Stripe.

    HellO:
I have GALLERY purchased, so I wish to (validly) up load videos to post.

And, I wish to also post videos in a forum message as well ( which seems to accept a different encoding format! )

I have tried various file formats outside of our software to see which format will play the best on both hand-held & desktop.  That experiment yielded mp4.

These other encoded videos did not play or otherwise failed: mpg & wmv.

Using Adobe Premier,  I used encoding variables set for HD cable / television broadcasting.

However: That does not achieve the results I am looking for or simply fails!

    HELP:

Would you know the working or ‘best’ output encoding settings in Adobe Premier to produce the best possible video replay on our software platform?

    Appreciate any guidance and help!

I pay about 150 euros a year for hosting in Europe. Here is the cloud lowest package $50 per month. Which results in $600. The cost of maintaining the forum is not profitable in my case, because I run it as a hobby without profits.

Literally one reason I wouldn't look at Cloud... Cost.
It's far too expensive. I looked at moving to Cloud and worked out my yearly costs would be 400% what they are now, including the license fees for the IPS software.
I would love to move to Cloud for the simplicity, but it's far too expensive to be able to justify it.

I would be interested as well as we continue to watch features not available to self-hosted clients. I have multiple licenses and although not happy about the direction, I can understand business models changing. I don't fault IPS for evolving and differentiating services. At some point I will probably have to make some hard decisions myself, hopefully way down the road. Cloud pricing just does not compare to having multi-license self server/hosting. Plus, I can tweak and modify my environment as needed. I run my own cloud..lol.
As far as non-IPS staff members jumping into topics like this to provide "answers", I have to agree...it can sometimes be a bit annoying as I read threads. I'm not trying to discourage discussion its just that we pay for answers that are sometimes expected from IPS Staff only, just saying.... However, maybe those individuals are "interviewing" for the next open IPS staff role...at least it seems like that. If that's the case, best of luck to those individuals! 👍

H5K reacted to Marco Junior in Report tracker
It would be interesting to see the IPS system have its own report tracker.
Today it is possible to create using the "PAGES" application, however this becomes inaccessible to customers with little experience in programming, forcing the customer to make purchases from third parties, and unfortunately some sellers here in the community have the bad habit of closing tasks and just don't answer us anymore.
This is more than essential for any area of activity, but more clearly, I believe that for stores and services focused on development it would be paramount.
A report tracker where you can:
    set status,
Define type of statuses to be created,
Define customizable fields such as: Extra fields
And every other context that generalizes within a report tracker.

H5K reacted to TyronX in Properly communicate Stripe/Sofort payment process
While its nice that Stripe offers payment by bank transfer via "Sofort", compared to other payment options the process is rather awful. Customers get charged immediately, but the order remains in a Pending state for multiple days. I lost count how many customers were contacting us as to why their money is gone but did not receive the product. It's especially infuriating for germans because "Sofort" in german means "Instant" - but its the exact opposite of instant.
There are many ways to improve this, but at the very least I would suggest to properly communicate this with the customer. I added a warning via template hack. Would be nice if it were a default feature. Would likely save hundreds of support tickets a year without much effort.
