Hexsplosions got a reaction from CallieJo in What do you think of 3.2?
It's crap, I hate it, I don't like it!!!! - Whoops, for second I had a nightmare I was a vB customer.

User reactions when moving to a new software version will always be mixed. Some will love it, some will hate it, others will sit on the fence and think "this feels nice".

The trick is the manage the change with your users. Don't just upgrade, start drip feeding them information about the new released and get feedback beforehand. You may not be able to change things based on their feedback, but having that two-way dialogue is, sometimes, all they want. You'll be able to discuss the changes with them, find the benefits of the change, and move on.

For instance, I already know that some of my users are very 'anti social networking'. IPB comes with an abundance of tools designed to work with the likes of Twitter and Facebook, and I intend to utilise them all. My trick will be to introduce them to the forum having already told them it's going to happen, given them time to have their say and get used to the idea. Then, on upgrade day... Voilá!

Upgrading software will ALWAYS present challenges with an existing member base.

This is mad... I can't see any logical reason why this would have been removed?

I've quoted what I believe to be the basics that should not have been removed.

I should be able to configure these features on my forum and have the choice of whether to use them or not, without the need for custom modifications/hooks.

A forum software should allow decisions to be made by the forum administrator, based on the community and content.

I love IPB 3.2, I think it's a great improvement but some of the decisions really are questionable.

Hexsplosions got a reaction from Jinkler in 3.2 - Feature request
I think what I am asking for has been misunderstood.

I know there is already the ability to enable users to optionally add this or not, or to make it mandatory. What I am asking for is the ability to completely ignore this option within the first X minutes of a posts creation. The contents of the first post may update many times (it's a photography forum, new images are added following edits) so I want the forum to show the time and date of the last edit. If, however, my users make a typo during their initial post, I would like for them to be able to edit that typo (let's say, they have a 5 minute grace to spot and correct such errors) without the board showing 'last edited on....'.

It's not a current feature and some board administrators do want this (as my search revealed).

    Effectively, like this...

If post time is less than 5 minutes and invisible editing grace is enabled (crap description, yes), do not show 'last edited by' dialogue.
If post time is more than 5 minutes, and "Allow user to remove 'Edited by' legend?" is set to no, show the 'last edited by' dialogue.

Like I said, this is a feature of other forum boards. In certain scenarios, as insignificant as it may seem, this is a very good feature.

    Ref:

This is not only a feature on a rival premium forum software, but many free forum softwares also have this as a feature. I don't believe this would be a big job to add.

Ideally, the admin should have the option to enable/disable this... Potentially with two grace periods.

If a forum post is edited within the first grace period, the 'Edited by...." text is optional (or simply does not display (easier to code?)). After that time, and if selected by the admin as required, the "Edited by...." text should show.

    Pretty please.

It's such a simple yet very effective means of keeping track of change without exposing human errors that are corrected almost instantly.

I opened this topic in order to make a list of features removed from version 3.1.4., in the new version 3.2
I hate this because 3.1.4 has some features that are very useful and now we have to find hooks doing those.

One of this is status online/offline of the members in topics.
You can find the hook here

Everyone can contribut to this list.
