    Luuuk got a reaction from SeNioR- in [Bug] No access to Templates / CSS when an IPS message is on top
    Hi,
    Not sure that is still the thing in 4.7 due to this change but I'm still on 4.6 and the issue was present even before that version. So reporting just in case:
    If there is "more important" message on top, Templates and CSS browsing is not available:

    "Less important" message does not produce the effect:

    If the message will be closed then the items are available again. The big issue is the message is blocked by IPS to be closed. Then .. adblock / other content blocker has to be used to target the message...

    Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention! I can confirm this should be further reviewed and I have logged an internal bug report for our development team to investigate and address as necessary, in a future maintenance release.

    I don't really see what advantages the others have over CKEditor 5.

    Whichever we choose, there is a significant time investment to rewrite our plugins and parts of our uploader, etc.

    Such claims need to be tested scientifically. There is no way to test this for yourself and actually come to useful conclusion. Any effect of such a change, positive or negative, will be subtle and there is no way to assess the difference yourself. You will be “primed” to perceive the supposedly improved text as better and possibly come to that conclusion just because of this priming. That’s why science uses double-blind tests, where you don’t know what is actually being tested.
    And reading speed isn’t reading comprehension. Even if the method would actually make you faster, it doesn’t mean you actually understand the text just as well as when you would read a normal text.
    There are also confounding variables, like the font weight. The website shows a very light text and then the “bionic” text with some letters being bold(er). Maybe the problem with the light text is that it is just too light and the reading improvement comes from the bolder letters – not their “bionic” distribution. Such things must be taken into account and tested for.
    And from my experience with reading research, the entire premise is highly questionable. The focus points we use while reading depend on many things:
    personal reading experience personal understanding of the specific sentence you are reading the text layout (typeface, length of line …) the reading conditions (reading distance, lighting …) This “bionic” approach tries to force focus points on all readers of a text, independent of their reading experience and how good they understand the text. I don’t see how that can work. If the focus points don’t match what one personally needs, there can’t be a positive effect and it is actually more likely to see a negative effect caused by forcing focus points in the wrong locations.
    But I guess the makers of that product don’t really care as long as they can sell their API access. If they would care, they would have started with proper scientific testing, not with sensational claims distributed through general media outlets.

    It actually hurt my eyes.  It's not normal nor natural and it appears that someone somewhere decided this would be a good idea and call is 'bionic' - sorry, I don't have bionic eyes and if I did I doubt that emphasising parts of words would improve my reading speed.  I was actually very happy to reach the end of the text as it became painful at the end.
    Sorry, it doesn't work for me, but then I'm an old git and prefer traditional over modern 😉

    You can check if the error is still there by pasting in your browser a URL pointing to a non-existent attachment like:
    https://YourSite/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=0

    Luuuk got a reaction from Vakarian96 in CKEditor "Add Button" - an option to assign FA icon
    Hi,
    I would like to see a choice between an image or FA code in the Icon field:

    Currently the image is required and shared between more than one theme. The same icon can look bad on Light and Dark theme.
    So now I need to upload some "dummy" image to satisfy the dialog and then override it anyway via custom.css:
    .cke_button__custom-ButtonID_icon { background-image: none !important; } .cke_button__custom-ButtonID_icon::before { content: '\f019'; }

    Luuuk reacted to Gabriel Torres in Exceptions for emoji C:
    Hello,
    In the ACP we have the option to automatically replace text with emoji (Customization > Editor > Emoji > Replace text with emoji?). However, this is an "all-or-nothing" setting, and it doesn't allow us to enable/disable individual emojis.
    The problem we have here is that "letter C" + "collon" is replaced with 😄.
    As you know, "letter C" + "collon" is also how Microsoft operating systems names the first hard drive since the 1980s, so whenever someone types in something like the command format, we have an emoji instead of the letter C.
    Therefore, my suggestion is for wither removing this shortcut or adding an option for us to have a fine-grain control over which combinations are replaced with what, in the same fashion we have in the "Custom Emoji" tab.
    Thank you in advance.
    Cheers,
    Gabe.

    When you have create a theme from a parent theme, the ordering of themes in not respected in the front.
    This is my ordering in the ACP: Themes

    This is the ordering when I click the theme link to select a theme. As you can see, the ordering below is not the same as I have chosen in the screenshot above.
    This only happens when you create a child theme from a parent theme.

    @Adlago
    I know that, I am a designer myself 😉 My point is that many lines of CSS and JS code are not used at all (on the homepage and elsewhere) hence such poor performance on mobile devices in the PageSpeed test

    Luuuk reacted to Runar in Optimization for speed
    While this is true, most of the "opportunities" presented by PageSpeed Insights are things I have little or no control over, such as eliminating render-blocking resources and removing unused JavaScript and CSS. These improvements will have to come from you, though I imagine they would require insane amounts of work and are therefor not prioritized.
    I know these numbers will depend on a lot of factors, but I think they speak of an underlying issue – not as in something you've done wrong, but something that's hard to "fix": When viewing the front page on my community, 77% of root_framework.js and 92% of framework.css is unused. When viewing a topic, the numbers are 74% of root_framework.js and 89% of framework.css. Given the required time and resources, these files and the rest of the scripts and style sheets could be massively optimized, which in turn will benefit everyone, especially mobile visitors.

    This is the worst. I hope that IPS will "somehow" optimize it, although I know it will not be easy.

    IPS Forum should be able to change the color of the template to a dark - button, not via an additional plug, but only built into ips forum.

    I reported the same here (see my last post):
    Still unsolved for me on 4.6.8. Haven't upgraded yet to 4.6.9 which has some "cryptic" note:
    Fixed an issue when sending push notifications when content is recognized.
    I have no idea what it even means and if it is related to my issue at all.

    @Marc Stridgen
    I also get the same template error since upgrading to 4.6.8. The error is fired by Guests (I guess some bots) on non-existent attachments urls (eg. already deleted from a database). No error if urls point to existing attachments. The same error occurs on the default and custom theme. Recreating the default theme from scratch does not help. Of course, caches were cleared many times.
    I was preparing to upgrade to 4.6.9 hoping that the error will be fixed. But I would like to know how to fix that before upgrading.
