I have an IPB forum with chat and calender apps. No portal, no blog, no gallery, and almost no hooks. Just the ip.board. The board has roughly 3,500 members and averages about 60 online users during daytime hours. From about 9pm until 8am, that number drops to almost zero. We don't allow attachments. We have about 300,000 posts and the ipb database size is under 200MB. Siteground, which responds to every problem by recommending a more powerful server, says we've maxxed out a dedicated server. I say no freaking way. Time to move. What type of server package should be required to run this community? Can anyone give a recommendation? I'm eyeing the following Hostgator …

I got a little bored and figured I'd hack up a MySQL database driver that does read/write splitting. The nice thing about this driver is that it shouldn't break as the current mysql drivers are updated. I'm not sure how well it works but if you want to try it out and give me some feedback it will help me to improve it. From my own experiments I didn't seem to come across any problems. The idea for this driver is that you can set up your mysql in a master-slave configuration where you have one master that you can both read and write updates to, and copies of the data are sent out to the slave databases. Sample Setup: Mysql Master Server + Slave #1 + Slave #2 +…

A lot of people on a forum I'm on that recently switched to IPB are complaining that the forum is much slower now since switching from vB to IPB. I noticed it is a bit sluggish as well, but only by a second or two. There are a LOT of members, and millions of posts. No one will sacrifice pruning forums because they know they will lose their "precious post count." Any ideas for speeding up the forum, for someone who is no good with MySQL editing?

Does anything need to be adjusted in the xcache files, themselves ? When using this for the forum,or is it just a case of adding one line to the config file within IPB.. In regard to this article http://community.invisionpower.com/resources/documentation/index.html/_/tutorials/large-communities/using-alternate-cache-storage-r169

My host is Liquidweb, and my current dedicated server is running Cent OS 3 as it's OS. This has reached it's 'end of life' phase and is no longer being actively maintained. So, the option is to upgrade the OS, or upgrade the server. Naturally, a server upgrade makes sense, to get the latest hardware. Currently I've got: AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor running at 2.2 ghz. 4Gb ram 120gb HD. I've had no problems with this setup running my sites. What is most beneficial when running forums? Is it processor, memory or hard-drive speed? Is there an order of importance? Cost wise I want to keep it to around

Hi, My load has recently increased to about 150 concurrent users, and performance is very sluggish. I installed unreal portal, shoutbox, and I'm using the stock skin. Before the increase in the number of users there were no issues, now the cpu can spike up to 20-30% at times, the shoutbox sometimes does double posts, and everyone is complaining it's slow. I'm thinking that maybe there is something I could do to optimise the board, and the VPS I'm currently using. I'm having an Essential VPS with servint, that's about 768ram available. Sorry I forgot to mention that nowadays I'm seeing httpd <defunct> in top.

I just purchased a VPS and I'm lost on what to do. It's unmanaged, my only choice since I don't got a lot of money to work with. Here's what I installed so far: Debian 5.0 Linux OS Webmin Apache PHP MySQL GD Webalizer Dovcot Postfix SquirrelMail APF Firewall BFD (Brute Force Detection) ProFTPD ClamAV + ClamDaemon I have no idea how to configure these or what the appropriate settings are. I know that I want everything to be secure and fast, and also plan on installing the following: Xcache Memcache Apache MPM Worker Sphinx Here's my post on Taz for a better idea what I want to do besides prepping it for IPB3: http://www.theadminz...ead.php?t=71706…

Well securing at least if someone could possibly help me with that. I'm flat out broke and I need to move off my current web space since I can't pay, remembered I had credit with another host for a VPS so I'm going to be moving my site there for the time being and hope things get better in the next month. It's a semi-managed Cpanel host, I already have ConfigServer Security and Firewall installed with CSF/LFD. I tried updating Apache and PHP with EasyApache but it's complaining the packages or package manager is broke. CSF lists many security issues that need to be addressed, and I'm not familiar with Linux. I'm broke, so I don't have money to pay but I will offer my …

Hello I have a problem as i was try to use xache on my invision forum. I was install it on a cpanel server with only one account inside bt is caching only 100 out of 10.000 hits :( I am not using suexec on fast cgi handler that i use. (also i was add the xcache line on invision config) Any ideas why it is not working? Now i am thinking that maybe the problem is something related to php security that i do not know or maybe that i was upload the files on the server as root and not with the username of the account and the permissions are not correct.... or not? Thank you
