Hi, What are peoples suggestions for a VPS for a medium/large site? As of last week we where running trouble free on an (increasingly large) shared hosting package, when our hosts then upgraded their software allowing them to better manage (and hence, throttle) resources! We have therefore now been rudely awakened to the need to move on, and as we are already on there largest shared package, are now looking at VPS options. Currently we have about 120 users online fairly often, today have reset the counter we apparently peaked at 850 online at once. Creating around 600posts and 25topics per day, and eating through around 120gb a month bandwidth. 1,022,556 total…

We have noticed we often have a very large number of guess users on the board. For the last week we have been having issues with hitting the limits of our shared hosting now that our hosts have moved us onto a new server which can monitor and throttle our resource usage. Obviously we need to move to a more suitable package, and are looking to migrated onto a VPS package shortly but why when there are say 250 users online, do we sometimes have 2000 guest users on the board? - Clearly some will be members, or the general public, who are viewing the board without signing in. But the rest? They often appear of an evening, which is clearly also our busiest time when it hit…

Members that have it installed can you tell it has helped your community?? Reason I am asking, seems like the first few days after install the cpu usage dropped pretty good and was running around normal, but now it is right back up there way high and spiking higher. The old software I have never seen CPU usage this high before, so I am just wondering what is the best to help bring it down to more pleasing level. Oh and this is all it says: /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/ --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --log-error=/var/lib/mysql/server.<snip>.com.err --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/server.<snip>.com.pid

We have a moderated forum and would like a message to display after a user posts a new post. The message should read "This post needs to be approved before appearing", or similar. Any ideas on how this could be achieved? Is this behavior configurable from the admin control panel? Currently what happens when a user posts a new post is that the user is redirected to the start page of our first forum, without any message given. Many thanks beforehand!

Any topic or source to read up on SEO Optimizations. Although my site gets spiderd pretty well , there are certain topics that show up in Google search within a day of being posted and some after 3-5 days, wondering how to manage these difference and is there a method some of you use to ensure consistency .

I haven't see this posted here. There is a nasty root exploit that affects CentOS and CloudLinux. From various discussions I've read no one has yet found the cause. The rootkit puts file /lib64/libkeyutils.so.1.9 on 64bit systems and /lib/libkeyutils.so.1.9 on 32bit systems I know CentOS is pretty popular and many hosts use it so if I were you I'd check the thread at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1235797 and also this blog post http://www.cloudlinux.com/blog/clnews/sshd-exploit.php.There is a link to a bash script to clean this up, however, since this is a root exploit it's probably better to reload the OS. Those files might not be the only nasties th…

Noticed today that MySQL v5.6 is now out as a General Availability (GA) release. Just wondering if IPB should be fully compatible with this release and if anyone has had any success / failures upgrading to this version of MySQL?

I've got LDAP turned on using the same settings that other applications of mine are using, but I can't seem to authenticate against our Active Directory. Is there a debug mode or somethign similar so I can see all of the messaging going on? All I've seen in the log is the message that an error occurred. I don't know where the error is occurring.

Hi, the other day we test upgraded a db copy of our site. We also decided we would like to test and make the switch to utf-8. Please note: This convert is only done on a test version of our forum with a test db. We did this by commands like: mysql> ALTER TABLE ippbe_posts CONVERT TO CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_swedish_ci; Query OK, 19203896 rows affected (2 hours 48 min 33.23 sec) Records: 19203896 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 On all the tables. As you can see, it appearantly executed successfully. Testing it later, it worked but... then I made the switch of the document character set to utf-8 and then it didn't work anymore. Causing errors like: A…

Now my forum is hosted on a server that uses MySQL 5.0.77 and PHP Version 5.2.16 Because I had some 503 Service Unavailable error, technical support from hosting company offered me to migrate on a sever account with PHP 5.5 and MySQL 5.3, with next generation hardware. I want to know if IP.Board 3.3.4. is compatible with these specifications and is recommended to do this migration. Thank you.

Hello, i had setup replication again, this time i had chosen to ignore some tables, but im not 100% sure if its ok to ignore them or i should add others. I do this to reduce some load on the slave and have a smaller backup. replicate-wild-ignore-table=MyIPBdb.gacontent_cache_posts% replicate-wild-ignore-table=MyIPBdb.gasearch_keywords% replicate-wild-ignore-table=MyIPBdb.gasearch_visitors% replicate-wild-ignore-table=MyIPBdb.gasessions%

Hello, Hopefully you guys can help me since IPB support has not been able to figure this one out and I was referred here as well by them. I have a minecraft server and were trying to add IPB as the website/forum for it. We were on CentOS 6 and then my server admin moved us to Debian. When we were on CentOS everything worked, we then made a backup of everything and once Debian was loaded he then got everything running again except for IP. Content. We have made sure we did everything correctly and the IPB tech said he wasn't sure what else we could try it should be working. Also a note when I enter the URL in the advanced area all of IP. Content breaks if I don't have …

Folks, I am running ip.board (and a dozen or so wordpress sites) off of my dedicated server in my business. I have a static IP. The current server is an OS X server (10.6 flavor). I have put together an Ubuntu server box, with just MYSQL installed. This second box is currently on a router on my home setup (Non-static ip) just for setting up purposes. Can anyone give me a general overview of getting this Linux box to act as a mysql server, accessed by my IP.board (and wordpress installations). I don't know if it is as simple as setting up a router on the static IP, or if there is more involved. Any pointers to how-tos or links explaining would be most helpful. Basicall…

I am attempting to facilitate a reasonable max upload size to my forums to allow members who cant be bothered to resize images the facility to load the largest images. Currently server side it is set at16mb which will easily swallow the largest image sizes, which by default using IPB setting are being nicely resized to a reasonable memory size. The issue I have is that images up to about 6 mb load but anything larger creates a website not responding due to a long running script error. Can this be tweaked server side to prevent this or is this a browser issue ?
