I am sure many people have shared their ideas for an IPB plenty of times, and each thinking that theirs is better than the rest. Hey, some of you may have already thought of these things, but I think that IPB should implement th following into the next IPB or one of them, they are good, solid, sound ideas, and I think that they should actually be taken into consideration. 1) Administrators should be able to view member's PM's as a default feature to the IPB. 2) Selecatable default skin for the board. What I mean is that some IPB's should come in a default green, or purple, or pink, or whatever colors the customer chooses when they install the forum. This should be at th…

The topic with the features list is outdated, as a few new things were added, and some were taken out. (such as the image resizing which I need and 2 people complained about it so it was taken out and me ignored on how to put it back in).

Spammers are now targeting web forums more than ever - this is their new strategy. I know there is a 3rd party spam add on, but I don't think it is very useful. To stop spammers getting a foothold and getting that solitary spma post in, it is quite simple, and I really hope IPB read this and consider it - as this is becoming a real chore for moderators. If the FIRST post made by a NEW member contains <user defined> amount of http:www links then make the post invisible pending moderator approval, and place that member on indefinate suspension pending Admin approval. Please PLEASE incorporate this.

sorry to flood the place with like the 100th topic on this, just wondering....what's everyone make of the new version? what do you like best, any bugs, etc? Im sitting on 2.1.7 for a bit longer until there's more skins, cause im picky. But i do like what ive read on making it harde ron spammers, built-in spoiler tags, and other such options. Hows the new portal? it sounds like a myspace page...anyway, merge this if you gotta, just looking to see what some users thought of it, if its worth holding off a few more months and such. ps i love you invision

2.2.0 Upgrades are Overloading Server

Hello, I initialized my upgarde from 2.1.7 to 2.2.0 this morning and part-way through the process my server stopped responding. After contacting tech support they were able to reboot the server. I thought perhaps it was an error on their part so I tried to continue the upgrade by manually running the queries one by one. Part way through the queries the server began overloading again and was timing out. So I'm partially through my upgrade and my site is completely down. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this? Thanks in advance for any help!

URL filtering

Has anyone tried the URL filtering in Tools & Settings > Post, topic settings. I enabled the filter, and put it to blacklist and then entered a url. On my test account i then posted a message with the URL.... i don't know what its ment to do...but i saw and was able to click on the url. Has anyone else tried this feature out?

If you are receiving any strange issues, such as javascript errors or you're finding a lot of the new functions don't work - please make sure you empty your browser's cache to ensure that you are not getting cached copies of the old javascript.

Display name question/problem

Hi I have noticed that on IPB 2.2.0 the username wil only display a certain amount of characters. My username is goodfellagoodfella but it is dispaying as goodfellagood - Is there a way of changing the amount of characters? I have a regular member/poster on my forum with the same amount of characters as "goodfellagoodfella" and they are a little annoyed that their name is cutting off. I have tried making the column width bigger etc the templates and css files but have had no luck Please let me know if you know this is possible Thanks Goodfella

Improved search by date

I think it would be useful if you could search by exact date and date ranges. E.g. return all posts made between on a certain date, or in a certain month/year... or between date A and date B. Current search options only allow for X days and newer/older.

If there can be a small addition to rss section in admin cp, where it asks you to merger all posts according to date , or member name, in particular forum, then rss feeds would be much more organised. This way they are mere new topics created, and usually no one replies to them. So if we can have all rss posts of the day as a single topic, it would be great .

It would be great if this modification can be made. I have rss feeds which mount to many pages everyday. There are also members posts which get lost in rss posts in search option. Just like in forum view, announcements are always above posts. Pinned topics are always above other posts, if we can have such a thing when someone searches, and members posts appear above the rss posts, it would be really great.

I hope there will be a file change log as usual whenever 2.1.1 is out. I am assuming there will, but just making a topic to beg, just in case. :) Because i have left most mods out of RC versions, but probably will put quite a few back in now (although less than I had in 2.1.7 because I went overboard on some that werent used much).

IPS main site seems to want almost no discussion in regard to IPS software on their own forums. At least in reference to the actions taken by their staff in numerous threads. They're always closing threads and conversations. For example, you can't even discuss looking for a design of a skin in the web design forum section. It is being considered a support question and referred to IPS Beyond. If I weren't already a lifetime customer, I would be put off by all this and to be honest both the phpbb AND the vbulletin community are extremely more helpful and friendly and patient with it's customers, at least in comparison. I can remember seeing a post made by a member of the IPS staff. It was saying something about the group colouring (prefix and suffix). They stated that you can replace any instance of a code which shows a members name with something else; resulting in the name being coloured. I remember that this would mean we could make the prefix and suffix work anywhere without file edits. What was the damn thing?

I noticed on the EULA screen of the installer that I have to click the checkbox when my first instinct is to click the text. If you are able would you please update the HTML with a LABEL tag to allow this? Sincerely, Kevin

On 2.1.7 even if you weren't allowing members to change skins then the admin could still switch between them (which is very useful when developing). This doesn't seem to be the case anymore?
