Getting RSS Author from the feed itself
by Guest softwarenerd- 1 reply

Here is what we do on our forum: We use other software (reBlog) to select and aggregate various blogs into a single feed. We then read the feed in to the forum, to create topics for discussion. We use a "generic" member-name on the new posts. We'd like to have it so that we can get the username off the feed itself, where each topic can be from a different member. When one configures the feed, it would be nice if there was a way to say that the author should be picked up from a particular tag, rather than specifying a single member-name for the feed.

Is this an ACP option? If not please consider adding it. I think most users would opt _not_ to tick the box in the current set-up, but this is a pain for everyone else. I would much prefer an Admin ACP option where we can set it to around 5 minutes or so.

It's still not working right. When I click on it, it still doesn't display threads in chronological order: 1st page (bottom): 2nd page (top): 2nd page (bottom): 3rd page (top) starts with today's topics again: Same goes for 4th and 5th page....

I am not sure if it hass been brought up before, but I think it would be a nice feature if users were allowed to toggle and rearrange their own sidebar configuration out of the available sidebar plugins installed. However I am not sure how big the effort would be to implement that kind of feature? Is it within the realm of the possible or would it require too many code changes / cpu time?

I was trying to think of how to simplify the graphics of the forum page. One thing I think could be improved is to avoid the green 'bullets' indicating the new topics within the forum. Wouldn't it be worth trying to avoid the bullet and have the name and have the same indication be done by the forum having another colour? It could be lighter or darker version of the existing text colour, or some signal colour.. at present I think the bullets are really graphically disturbing and this might help to have the page nice and smooth.. I just don't know how to program it :)

I don't know if this is a good idea or if others of you have thought about this, but if someone writes a really long posts, I might want to quote some parts in that post but not the whole post. Wouldn't it be great if you selected a part in the post(like marked it) and then click a new button "Part-quote" or w.e it could be called, and it automatically quotes that part (into the $_POST request when you click "Reply") and deselects the part. Perhaps highlight it differently so you know that you have "part-quoted" it. If you select a part that you have part-quoted, you will be able to "part-unquote" it. Here's an example of what I mean, this post made by Wolfie: Real…

I am suggesting to clean up the index pages and unify the commands placed across the screen (sometimes easy to miss, especially if you are a member new to IPB) in a unified pulldown header menu. To get an idea of what I have in mind: http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/Glacier Access to profile, messages, notifications upcoming in 3.1, login/logout/register functions would all be in one easy to find location. The menu of course changes the content throughout the forum, as a guest you have the register and sign in options, after login this space would become the personal profile pulldown. The features like mark all forum read (on main index) or mark forum read (on forum ind…

Currently when i use admin (and user) validation in new registerations, users doesnt get anything in mail if i dont accept their registeration. Because they dont, they send me emails saying "Hey why my account doesnt work!!!" etc. How about mail something like, "Sorry ****, but we cant accept your registeration at this time" or something?

The concept of how the topic preview was implemented was a stroke of brilliance. You people really did a great job. No annoying mouseovers, subtle, and effective. I know the details are still being tweaked, but just wanted to say I find them awesome. Thanks!

lets say your halfway down a long post, you have to keep scrolling all the way up to get back to the top or scroll all the way down to get to the bottom to push the "back to top" link.. could we get a small back to top arrow at the bottom of every post? maybe every other post?

- Profile Picture size is too small (If you are connected to facebook Connect), it is different size what you see on your profile on facebook. - As Admin, how do I find out which users connected to 'facebook Connect' ? - If guess want to reply in the topic, they can simply click on "faceboob connect" button next to "reply button". I have seen some blog does that.. very clever. - Update Notifications/Feed to facebook when you posted on the forum.

Currently if you only want to get a pop-up for let's say Private Conversations you can't do that, you only have the option of getting the pop-up for all notifications or none. You should be able to choose which type of notifications you'll get the pop-up for, it shouldn't be an all or none setting.

would a version sort of tag added to all invision javascripts/css calls avoid the above have seen it on other systems, drupal I think certainly would make upgrades to visitors a lot more seamless and save a lot of "refresh browser" support replies

Hi, I have a suggestion. It would be great in a future update to have the ability for a user to have the ability to remove one's self from the members list. I believe that they should have the right to the privacy of not have to show their profile to everyone else. Thanks!

We started using IPB sometime back in 2004-ish. Since then, we have added close to three dozen sites with IPB forum software and we've never looked back. All remaining sites that are not using IPB will be converted and we'll soon be 100% IPB. Why is this (not in any order)?

On the ACP login page, have the black banner at the top allowing the admin to go back to the forum. Useful if an ACP session has expired and they want to go to the main board. Not a major issue, just thought about it.

First off I hate to make suggestions with a reason being vbulletin has it, phpbb has it,etc. While let me bring up the topic of MySpace. A while back they have made Profile 2.0 Layouts. I think there UI is nice and easy to understand. Please take some time to see my notes on my newly created gallery http://community.invisionpower.com/gallery/album/143615/1337-abstract/ PS: My Album number is 1337 = WIN!

Seeing as how IPS is taking great steps toward a full featured family suit: forum, article system, download manager, gallery, subscription manager, blog, and chat, one great addition would be IP.Shopping Cart. Many people want to sell things online, and by having IP.Shopping cart users can be persuaded to use IP.Board as opposed to 3rd party applications. Keep up the great work!

Hello, The name of connected members to the chat is displaying at the bottom. Nobody see it and nobody connects. That would be better to have the number of connected, directly in the navbar : chat (5)
