Dll got a reaction from Matt in Hump Day: what are some of your community pain points?
One of the pain points I see is this new found, deeper entrenchment of views and opinions that some people have gained in recent years - in part I assume it is related to social media and how easy it is to create an echo chamber for those views.
To give an example -  some people are so entrenched in their viewpoint that they don't really engage in a discussion other than to disagree with those who suggest anything different, restate their points and ultimately just go around in circles regardless of evidence, suggestions and information being fed back into the discussion by other participants. This can make discussions more fractious, and ultimately hurts engagement within them as people tire of the circular arguments being regurgitated and just step away from them.
From a moderation perspective I think it's really tricky to know where to draw the line - different viewpoints and a bit of drama can add spice to debates, but when and how to stop that when it does start to become circular? And what to do about those with a tendency to take discussions in that direction?
I'd be interested to know how other communities deal with this sort of thing.

Of course there is. Turning to some sort of pirated version of anything should never be an option.

Dll got a reaction from Matt in Hump Day: how do you onboard members into your community?
Was about to say something very similar. Sending out useful information about the service a user has signed up to isn't illegal. It  may be annoying for some but it's not breaking GDPR (that's a privacy law, not an email one).
That said, we don't do it, as I'm not convinced it's effective. As far as I'm concerned, for every person it engages it may well drive another one away as a constant drip of emails is never especially fun if you're not wanting or expecting them.

Could you give some specifics for which CKeditor features that doesn't function properly on a mobile device compared to the other editors you're referring to?

The layout shifts near the top of the screen in live topics when there is another user online. The space really needs to be reserved on page load to avoid it impacting CLS scores on core web vitals, I think.

I think there are a few paid for apps on iOS which plug into it, not sure about Android. But, I suppose if there were to be a plugin or something available for invision community, I'd be open to trying it.

    I used a generator 😇

There's an API on another site so in theory if someone loves it, perhaps it could work within a community. Low-key curious about how people would use it.

Dll reacted to Andy Millne in Commerce - what are the additional advertising features?
The main difference is you are able to sell advertising space directly to your members.

It doesn't solve the data privacy issue and I'd rather put energy into APIs to make it easier to integrate with third party apps and code.

Honestly, I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of third parties directly executing SQL queries on customer databases. If it all goes wrong, we have to dig out back-ups to fix it. This is not a slight on anyone's abilities, I've deleted an entire table of customer tickets with a mistyped query. It happens.
We are not going to create a system where third parties have access to the client databases. There is no audit trail for what actions were taken. When our team need to access a cloud site, we complete a reason form which is stored to form part of an audit trail so we know exactly what was accessed and why. We also have to access via a fixed IP address VPN so there is a data trail.
We take our cloud customer's security and data very seriously.
The SQL toolbox should have been removed a decade ago in all honesty. As we move forward with our cloud platform, more and more SQL tables will be stored centrally and not exposed to the client in any case, meaning admins won't have access to all the data the community uses which could case a lot of confusion.

    (Edited later to add:)
In terms of what to do with debugging, I do sympathise. I generally made prodigious use of the simple \IPS\Log::log( json_encode( $data ), 'argh_send_help' ); logger. I have also in the past used \IPS\Db::i()->select(...); in combination with \IPS\Log::log() to inspect a single row of data.

I glanced over that as well 😄  so don't feel bad.
If this is something you'd like to see in the core product, please create a topic in our Feature Suggestions forum so it can be further collaborated on by our community and it won't get lost in our Support forum 🙂 .

If you use Google tag manager you can push event/commerce or any sort of data your like through it, to be added to things like Google analytics.

There is nothing wrong with staying informed about the entire product line. After all, some admins will be interested in switching to the cloud offer, if it provides features or benefits they might want. So, they want to get that information as well. We just need to be able to easily tell which new feature applies to which plan.

It can take Google search results several weeks, if not into months to settle down when you redirect to be URLs etc. It's a waiting game I'm afraid.

I think some on here have a weird sense of entitlement, expecting the same features to be developed for them, despite using what is a different product (self-hosted vs hosted), with a different (cheaper) price.

Dll got a reaction from CheersnGears in Hump Day: Announcing Invision Community's new swag store!
I think the truth of the situation is that the clients on these forums aren't really the clients that Invision are developing their products for.
I suspect it's mostly (perhaps almost solely) the priorities of and feedback from enterprise clients which is driving their development and future planning.
I'm sure it's part of the reason why there's a reasonable sub section of those on these forums who clearly feel undervalued right now (along with price hikes, changes to support, long lived bugs, and parts of the software suffering from a lack of attention). It's also the reason why some of the communication from Invision can come across as a bit tone deaf and rile people up at times.
I'm not criticising particularly, as far as I'm concerned it's just the way it is. It's just a case of matching expectations to reality in my mind.
