Sorry to hear you feel this way. It would be worth having a read through some of the responses already posted on this over the last 5 months or responses there, as much of this has been covered. It's understandable that people may be disappointed in the removal of this.
Im all for debate, but please do refrain from insult and accusation. The above was certainly not the case.

So, to me, this is absolutely bonkers.

IPS' team has noticed that their plugin community is a fraction of what it used to be, thinks this is because everyone has switched to bespoke work (You sure it's not the other way around? People using bespoke work /because/ the plugin community has a fraction of the size it did back when there was a free version and before IPS was trying to be everything for every person by default?).

So they /murder/ pre-made plugins. No, we're not going to see thriving new marketplaces. Excited devs will start some, none of these will be as active as the current one, most if not all of these efforts will peter out quickly. Not having the marketplace in the panel, not having them vetted by IPS, not having people browse over them prior to purchasing IPS (and plan out a setup with plugins), not having their plugins listed on IPS' websites are all small cuts that together, cut deep. IPS' website was never a limiter on other marketplaces (they've always existed for themes and some plugins), but free advertisement to those who did have those. You're merely taking away an option and your stamp of approval.

And you do this brilliant move in the middle of a version, announcing it to your costumers roughly a month up-front.

Definitely not obvious you're springing it this way to ensure customers don't either, mass-hug a former major version to keep their plugins, or start planning migrations away from IPS between the time of announcement and release.

Now, months after it happened, I google 'Invisionpower plugins marketplace' and find nothing on the first page.

Sincerely, as someone who was a fan once of IPS, you people suck.

    Some nice ideas there.
I’m not a fan of minimizing the user info in the topic view though. The personal touch of clearly seeing who you are interacting with is getting more important these days, not less. If anything, this view should only be triggered if there is not enough space, not in full desktop view. As a typographer, the example screenshot is painful to look at.  3 posts with just one or two lines each that are waaaaaaaay too long for comfortable reading. This was always a problem with a default IPS installations but now it was made worse, not better. If the user info remains to the side, it also improves the readability of the post content.

I gotta say, this is a pain.  I have to contact each provider, hope they have a site, then register, then keep up with many different sites.
Over time, there will be fewer and fewer providers, eventually most of them will probably give up.  Especially the ones that created one or two fun apps.

    Beautiful!
I will explain to you why. I have a Facebook group of almost 7k members. They make it very difficult for me / almost impossible for me to mass message all of my members. I make an organic post and still the reach is barely 10%. Facebook a few months ago introduced the @ everyone tag. At first the reach was about 60-80%, but they have throttled it back down again and I am only get about a 30% reach. Tagging everyone just creates a notification in the Facebook app along with 50 other distracting notifications.
A big reason why I am trying to funnel my members into my Invision Community is that I can get a better engagement rate with them. Having native iOS notifications outside of the noise is huge.
Facebook group members need to realize they don't own any of the data in their group, you're just an admin in Facebook's toy box. Invision actually lets you own the data which is important to me.

I would advise at this point reverting to your backup. Its clear the issues you are having are likely being caused by 3rd party items. Once you have that reverted by your host and have your site up and running, we can then go through what you need to evaluate before you try an upgrade again.

I tend to try and transfer one folder at a time to Filezilla. So upload admin first, and then api, then applications. If I do it all at once the server times out and I get incomplete uploads. That could be the case.

I wouldn't jump ship just yet, Invision has a lot of cool things they are working on. XenForo is like an old Prius, it was cool when it first came out, but now it lost the appeal but still serves a purpose. You need to think long term for your community. Invision has remained the most consistent community platform provider out there.

Long term, one of the things I'm hopeful IPS will consider is automatic image optimization.  This would help reduce bandwidth and storage utilization, AND how much IPS needs to pay AWS each month.  It could improve the user experience by resizing the image based on the device itself needs.  (For example, a desktop might get the full size image...  but a mobile device might get sent a file that is 1/3 the size.)
